After purchasing a camel in town the Battling Bard of Potidae led Zora back into the desert to search for Kain and the refugees that dwell there. With each moment that passed and each person they came into contact with Gabrielle was starting to understand this new world little by little, and so far, with the exception of a couple strange abnormalities, it wasn't so different from her own world. The rich still prosper as always while the poor struggled to get by and people fought over land. She didn't hear much in the way of gods in this new land but she would cross that bridge when she would no doubt come to it.
"How are you doing back there?" Gabrielle asked, turning her head slightly to look at Zora seated behind her on the camel, wondering if those robes were keeping her cool or making her hotter. That sweather underneath blocking her shirt and the tie certainly weren't helping in this heat. "If you get hot let me know and we'll pull over so you can remove some of that unnecessary clothing."

This wasn't Zora's first time riding a camel but it wasn't anywhere as near as nice as the ones back in Egypt. Then again it could just be the added element of a filthy muggle riding with her. Who knew. You took what you could get in this life and for now Gabrielle was the only adult for miles. While there were others they were all muggles at the end of the day and better the muggle you know then the muggle you don't know.
"How are you doing back there?"
“Oh, you know. I'm fine. Not a nice cool castle with empresses or anything but I'm fine. How are you?”
"If you get hot let me know and we'll pull over so you can remove some of that unnecessary clothing."
“Unnecessary? I'll have you know these robes represent the noble house of Salazar Slytherin and I'm proud to wear them!”

"You're still on about that?" Gabrielle spotted the Kari refugee camp up ahead and brought the camel to a stop. Hopping off it, the Battling Bard of Potidae pull off the bag that had the food in it and opened it. The refugees gathered around and Gabrielle saw about sharing the food and water they could spare before bringing both bags up to Zora for her to take her place. "Make sure everyone gets a fair amount of the food we can spare, I'm going to search for Kain."

Gabrielle wouldn't have to search very far for Kain. He saw them, off in the distance, observing them as they shared their food and supplies even though they didn't have many. Kain was not a soul who trusted others easily and could only assume that in return for this display of kindness Gabrielle wanted something in return. What that may be however was beyond him. Kain walked over towards the woman and cleared his throat to get her attention. "You've returned. What for?"

Gabrielle heard Kain's clearing of the throat and turned around to greet the man. "Kain. There you are." He was quick to question her motives and she could understand that. Kain was the leader of the remnants of an entire civilization just trying to survive. Caution was a necessity for a person in his position and the neighbors here didn't seem too friendly. "We just thought we would share what we could before taking our leave."
Gabrielle reached inside of her pocket and pulled out the map of the continent Daniel had lend to her back in the Crystal Expanse. "This is a map of Jherra and according to it the closest place to Jherrazad is a town called Moon Valley. I would appreciate anything you could tell me about the town before we head out."

As Kain expected, Gabrielle did indeed want something in exchange for her 'kindness'. Information. He should have never doubted, even for a brief moment, that any display to the smallest degree would be performed without the performer of the task hoping for something in return. "Moon Valley is a small settlement surrounded by mountains and forest. It was a democracy where the highest authority belonged to the mayor but since Isafaro has taken over the area there's no telling what kind of government runs it now. I would not advise stepping foot anywhere that has the crimson vulture insignia tagged to it."

Isafaro. That name just kept coming up time and time again, ever since first meeting up with Zora back at the Crystal Expanse. Well whether or not it made her look like she wanted something in return Gabrielle decided it was time for answers on this matter once and for all. "I've been hearing that name thrown around a lot lately and nothing I've heard have been good. Just what is it exactly that makes them so bad?" Hopefully Kain would be able to shed some light on this topic. Gabrielle was growing tired of going into things blind and if they did have to stay at Moon Valley, though it sounded like a bad idea already, she wanted to know what to expect before approaching the city. If Moon Valley was out of the question it looked like they would either have to cross the Crystal Expanse again or stay at Jherrazad for a time.

"You're still on about that?"
Zora didn't answer. She felt the answer was obvious. And the young witch had every intention of bringing it up as much as possible. Thanks to the Battling Bard of Potidae they missed out on a wonderful opportunity to not only meet a real live vampire but an empress too. How many people, kids even, can say they met both a vampire and an empress, at the same time? Not many and Zora had hoped to enter into that elite club but any chance of that was ruined by Gabrielle.
"Make sure everyone gets a fair amount of the food we can spare, I'm going to search for Kain."
“You must be joking.”
But alas she wasn't. It was bad enough they were wasting precious supplies on nobodies but Gabrielle actually expected her to be the supplier in this case. And she didn't have much choice in this case. The refugees flocked to the food like a bunch of rabid dogs, at least in Zora's mind, and she was quick to give the food and water away just to get them off her back until there wasn't much left to spare..
“All right, all right, easy! We do intend to keep some of this food for ourselves, you know!”

"They will crush anything that stands in their way to achieve their goals with no care for the lives they destroy in the process. That is what makes them so bad. You would be wise to avoid them altogether." Kain looked over to Zora and suspected by her actions that Gabrielle had no more supplies to share with the rest of them. "It appears you have no more supplies to spare. You may take your leave now."

"Our worlds aren't so different, Kain. I have experience with armies that operate in that way." When Kain mentioned their supplies Gabrielle turned over to Zora and called out to her, "Zora! Okay, that's enough good job. Pack it up." "Let me help you," began Gabrielle after looking back in Kain's direction. "Whatever Isafaro or Jherrazad has done I can help. You just need to fill me in on what is going on around here."

"Zora! Okay, that's enough good job. Pack it up."
Zora told the people to shoo, not caring for those who had disappointed looks on their faces as she put the bag of food over her shoulder, not trusting it alone with the camel and all these hungry people, as she walked over by Gabrielle with a vexed expression found on her young facial features.
“Come on, Gabrielle. Let get out of here. I have sand everywhere!”

"You and your friend are outsiders to this world. Do not meddle in the affairs of ours." Kain turned around and began to walk away from the two. "Back in the Crystal Expanse is a large tower called the Downward Spiral. There holds the keys to returning you to your worlds. Go there, go anywhere you want but leave us be."

"Not now, Zora." Gabrielle went after Kain, not content at all with ending the conversation as is. "I'm already involved whether you like it or not. I became involved the moment my ship crashed into the expanse and I began conversing with people who aren't even from the same world as me. The damage's been done. Let me spend some of it helping you."

"Not now, Zora."
“But, Gabrielle–!”
"You and your friend are outsiders to this world. Do not meddle in the affairs of ours."
“I agree. I think that's a good code to live by.”
"Back in the Crystal Expanse is a large tower called the Downward Spiral. There holds the keys to returning you to your worlds."
“Wait, what?”
"I'm already involved whether you like it or not. I became involved the moment my ship crashed into the expanse and I began conversing with people who aren't even from the same world as me. The damage's been done. Let me spend some of it helping you."
“Bloody hell, Gabrielle! Can't you see he doesn't want our help? Now, tell us more about this lovely tower that can send us back home.”

Though her motives were that of selfishness Zora understood Kain's position on the matter better than Gabrielle. He couldn't understand the woman's persistence on this issue. Him and his people could offer them nothing that would be equal to what it would take to help them with their situation concerning the Empire of Jherrazad and yet Gabrielle refused to budge. None of it made sense. "Why do you insist? We have nothing to offer you in return."
