You all know this has been long overdue so I thought I would make a thread for people to express their opinion on the Arashi Storyarc as a whole and any latest developments concerning it. I'm actually surprised that a thread about this hasn't been made already but I can only assume the staff were afraid of flaming. Don't worry, I have a fire extinguisher you all can use if things get out of hand. So discuss the Arashi Storyarc here.
First let me start off with things I actually like about the plot (IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!) Never in my life has a single storyline generated so much debate among people so that's one thing the plot has going for it. No matter how crappy you think something is if you have people talking about it, you're doing something right. It makes sense to do too with everything that's happening with the universe and now... for all the things I find wrong with the plot:
1.) the prophecy is a complete rip off from the Diablo games (it doesn't help matters that I dislike those games to begin with) and it doesn't take that much creativity to change words around. We've already seen Ayen do that with a certain Zelda song.
2.) The Arashi characters are just ridiculously overpowered, Veran even more so than Aper. At least with Aper you could actually take him on in a confrontation. Granted, he no sold worst than Mil Máscaras, but you could still at the very least evade and even counter if you were intelligent enough. Solomon using Aper's own destruction against him to get the people out was a stroke of genius and I laughed my fucking ass off for hours after first reading it. With Veran he comes back with a move you just can't dodge and to be frank, as much as I liked the post that was deleted, it's technically godmodding on his part and a villain you just can't fight (without special tool number 1) just isn't very appealing to me.
3.) The fact this plot began on a different site three years ago just bugs me. It's obvious that the plot was never made for this site and clearly has aspects that many of us who are actually following it won't know or understand. For example, who's Validus? Who's Tajna? Who's Ranka? Who's Kel? What's the Council of Legion? What's the Legion of Abyss? Why should I care? It's just distracting when you have to do homework on some things just to have a full grip of everything that's going on in the story. Some things are a little more explained than others as opposed to Validus who honestly feels like he poof out of non-existence, started talking about the plot, blew up a planet and left.
4.) Show, don't tell. Amoura being the chosen one reminds me of Anakin Skywalker being the chosen one in Star Wars. We're never shown why he's the chosen one. He never does anything that sets him apart from any other Jedi. Amoura suffers from the very same problem. She has done nothing that sets her apart from other people, we're simply told and expected to accept that she's the chosen one. But as it stands Amoura hasn't done anything that really stands out. She's sneaky and can kill people. Dianne's sneaky and can kill people. She has familiars. Sparda, Maricul and Sazan has familiars.
5.) Amoura not being able to die. I think you guys missed a huge opportunity with this. Look we all know she isn't going to die, we all know you aren't going to reboot the site because let face it you'll lose more members than you'd care to. But there being a chance that Amoura could die before fulfilling her destiny can at least put some doubt in people minds. You don't even have to like Amoura to get behind this. Heck, not liking her would actually add a whole lot more to that. Have you ever had that person who you just hate but you need for whatever reason? Amoura could have been that person. Take Temptation of a High Priestess for instance. There was a legitimate threat on Miracle's life and nobody knew if she was going to make it out alive. There was doubt there to her survival and that was the entire draw of the thread. If Amoura could actually die you could put her in a situation where people would just go "Oh shit, if she dies who's going to stop the Arashi?" I just think that was a big opportunity wasted. I can understand why you didn't do it like that but, still think you missed a good opportunity to add some much needed tension.
Anyways that's my two cents, or four quarters depending how much I wrote there.
