“Aren't we all? So, how did you end up here as one of Aircano's knights? You don't exactly strike me as the god fearing type.”

"Are you going to take it from me?" she said playfully while holding up her glass.

"I lived here all my life. I never fully believed everything that was taught here but home is home, you know? Plus Aircano needed more people defending it that weren't just religious zealots so I joined up and never looked back since. What about you? How did you end up working for the Vulture of all people?"

[Ayen]

“If it means I don't have to put up with your flirting, then yes.”

“Soldiers of Vulture are given a simple choice: serve or be shot. I didn't join Vulture of my own accord, I was drafted and kept alive as long as I continued to serve. Unfortunately for them they trained me a little too well.”

Alex lowered her glass and smiled.

"I hear ya. No more flirting."

Alex listened to Ayanna's story about how she became part of Vulture and wasn't at all surprised that its members were forced through penalty of death. Not many people who didn't want power and glory followed a madman willingly.

"You're on the run?"

[Ayen]

"I hear ya. No more flirting."

“Appreciate it.”

"You're on the run?"

“I like to think I'm on an indefinite leave of absence. But yes, that's basically the long and short of it.”

"What can we expect them to send after you? I assume they'd want to drag you back to Isafaro to be executed for abandoning them."

[Ayen]

“They already sent an assassin after me. We were in the middle of a game of hide and seek until you guys showed up. I knew it was only a matter of time until you did so I played the waiting game and forced him to come to me if he really wanted me dead so bad. I guess he didn't want it badly enough. As for what else they'll send, if anything, I don't know – but don't worry, I took out one army a second one shouldn't be all that difficult.”

"I thought I saw somebody running out of the city while we were coming in from Kari. I don't suppose it was anyone you recognized?"

[Ayen]

“No but they definitely recognized me.”

Ayanna tried to recall if she met the man before but she was certain she hasn't. Whoever he was it was obvious he had a personal grudge, most likely denied promotion or something because she was around and now he saw her death as an opportunity to move up through the ranks in Vulture. Just the same old bullshit.

“I'm not going to worry about it.”

"That's your luxury not mine. I'll have to tell the others about this so we can prepare for a possible attack from Vulture's troops. Your little trick may keep out the demons but not all demons are unholy in nature."

Alex said her goodbye and finished her drink before putting it away and leaving the underground cellar to inform the others of a possible Vulture attack in the future.
