Leon set off another heat grenade, this time to temporarily blind Ayanna allowing for him to catch her by surprise with a charge, leading himself by his shoulder to take Ayanna down to the ground and finish her off with a point blank shot of his GB.

Ayanna yanked off her visor, capable of seeing Leon movements much better in spite of the heat grenade flare than she would have with the visor on set to thermal vision. Moving to the side and holding out a leg to trip the soldier into the ground.

He tripped. Unbelievable. She had actually managed to trip him. If his superiors were here to see this he really would die of embarrassment. Leon got back up to his feet and held his GB towards her but this time he didn't squeeze the trigger. "This is all just some game to you isn't it!?"

Ayanna wasn't concerned about the gunblade aimed at her. There was plenty of empty space around her to make evading bullets with her agility easy. She was more interested in what motivated this man to want her dead so badly. It was obviously more than just an order by a superior. Otherwise he wouldn't be this angry about failing to kill her up to this point. Frustrated maybe, but his rage appeared to be far more personal than he was letting on.

"Why? Why do I want you dead?" Leon started to laugh, laugh just like a madman as he stared straight into the eyes of Ayanna. "Because I'm better than you. I know I'm better. Yet you were the one who were ranked First Class. You and that manslut Drake White and the useless Zach Tigerson! I won't be denied any longer! I'll kill you where you stand then Vulture will have no choice but to say I am the best!" With that said he charged and threw everything he had at Ayanna as he cried out in anger.

The blade ran straight through his chest and out of his back, missing his heart only by a few inches. His eyes widened in shock as he now stood at the mercy of his target. At the mercy of Ayanna Kaktas. Leon's body could regenerate this damage if he was given the chance to but he doubted this woman would let him live. Already the Vulture was allowing himself to fall limp just waiting for Ayanna to deliver the finishing blow.

Ayanna pulled her gunblade out of Leon's chest and allowed him to land onto the ground. Sheathing her blade, Ayanna took a kneel next to the weakened soldier and looked him over in all his camouflage. She pitied the man who she knew to be her brother as they were created from the same superhuman experiment that made her, Drake and Zach. And Vulture had treated this one like he was garbage prompting him to take his anger and hatred out on them. Looking his wound over she took out a first aid kit and began helping the regenerative process along. Not caring if it meant he'd be back trying to kill her a second time. It was simple acts like these that separated them from the monsters of this world. Leon wouldn't die under her watch.
“I believe this concludes round one. If you wish for there to be a round two I suggest you take your leave.” |

Leon didn't know what game this woman was trying to play but she had just made a critical mistake. A real soldier would have known to finish their enemy off when they had the chance, not let them live. He could not believe that the woman who was once known throughout Isafaro for her cruelty was showing mercy. It was the biggest slap in the face of the Crimson Vulture since her treason. Disgusted with the woman, Leon stood up to his feet and ran off into the distance. He would be back for her, he had to be. Leon couldn't return to Isafaro without Ayanna, dead or alive. And he was determined to return with her head.

Leon picked a good time to make his retreat for just as he was coming out Sir Jeho was leading Aircano's knights and healers back in the recently liberated holy city. Coming to a stop as he found the young woman up ahead, recognizing her as none other than Ayanna Kaktas from Isafaro. Of all the people to come and liberate their city and it was a child of Vulture's. Telling the others to stay alert, Sir Jeho walked up to Ayanna to question her.
"Why have you come here, child? Does Vulture intend to make Aircano his next conquest?"

Ayanna had no regrets. She stood up and watched the man disappear into the distance and then saw another man enter the city. This one leading an entire army behind him. She recognized their uniform as Aircanian and knew that the rightful people of this land had returned to reclaim it. Ayanna wouldn't stand in their way but she had no intention on leaving until she was ready to leave. And if they insisted she would remind them of the simple fact they still wouldn't have a home to return to had it not been for her.
"Why have you come here, child? Does Vulture intend to make Aircano his next conquest?"
“I am no longer affiliated with Vulture. I walk my own path. I liberated this city because I had nowhere else to turn. I'll give it back to you, all I ask for in return is a place to lay my head.” |

Miracle was in awe. Not since the resurrection of her city after returning from America had anything appeared to be so wonderful to the holy child. Though the war against the Netherrealm had yet to be won their city was in fact back in their possession. And it was all because of the woman standing before them now. A reformed Ayanna Kaktas. The Lord did work in mysterious ways. Standing next to her God Miracle bowed her head in greeting to Ayanna before she spoke:
"Thank you. What you have done here today will not be forgotten. You are of course more than welcomed to stay with us for as long as you'd like."

Alex remained silent for most of the trip, which was strange for her as she was usually the most talkative of the group. But there was really nothing more to say. Seeing Aircano on the horizon Alex spotted Leon fleeing from the city but by the time the group had gotten there he was long gone. Raising an eyebrow Alex told her men to stay alert upon entering the city. Seeing one of the last people in the world she expected to see in her hometown. "Ayanna Kaktas as I live and breathe."Yes, Alex was familiar with Ayanna and what she did as one of Vulture's best agents. What she was doing here on her own without a task force, or her partner, was beyond her. Until Ayanna answered the question herself and Alex walked by Jeho to greet Ayanna after Miracle finished saying her piece. "Ignore the blonde he had his head up in the clouds for too long. I'd like to buy you a drink." |
