Because I guess someone decided we didn't have enough same-sex marriage bans in the US. SourceIn addition, I am so sick of people using God's plan as an excuse to ban gay marriage anywhere. According to God's plan in the bible he'd have us butt naked in a forest with a bunch of animals oblivious to the fact, and completely ignorant. No thanks.

I'm not surprised North Carolina would pass a law like this. It's in the bible belt.

This is why I don't take anything coming out of the Bible Belt seriously. Bunch of backward fools.
Personally, I think the core of the problem in this case is that the definition of marriage is outdated in today's more acceptant society. The issue's a little clearer-cut here in the UK; civil partnerships between same-sex partners are marriages in everything but name.

The only thing I'm concerned with is whether or not the places where same-sex marriage is legal will affect the church and the pastors who speak out against homosexuality. And unless there was a law passed I'm not aware of, every time legalizing same-sex marriage has come up religious freedoms were never compromised so I don't care which gender is marrying which.

I really wish they could just pass a national law legalizing same-sex marriage. So all those damned states that ban same-sex marriage can't do shit about it. And I really wish they wouldn't bring God into the whole thing. Separation of Church and State is there for a reason. The legality of same-sex marriage should have nothing to do with religion, and yet they insist on making a big deal out of it.

The whole God's design argument being put out is really a moot point when you consider the Separation of Church and State that's in our own constitution which apparently people thought to be too long to read or just too complicated to fully understand. Oh wait, I forgot... There is no Separation of Church and State... That's just a myth created by the biased left-wing liberal media to poison our youth and push their unamerican socialist ideas on our nation. I'm sorry.

The problem is that these God's design pushers will argue marriage as being a religious institution - which it was, originally. The only way this will stop being a problem, at least in a legal sense, is if the entire definition of marriage is changed, and only society can do that.

Me too but sadly the only ones who want a national marriage law are the Republicans and of course they'd define it as being between one man and one woman. The politicians that are generally okay with it, from what I've seen, always say it should be left up to individual states and I don't agree with that. This. The whole God's design argument being put out is really a moot point when you consider the Separation of Church and State that's in our own constitution which apparently people thought to be too long to read or just too complicated to fully understand. Marriage hasn't been solely a religious institution for some time now and I'd say society has. More and more each year you see more people voicing their support for same-sex marriage. The President and Vice President of the US has endorsed same-sex marriage. Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Sweden has it legalized and defined as marriage. Andorra, Austria, Brazil, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, Germany, Greenland, Hungary, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Slovenia, Switzerland and Uruguay join the UK in having civil unions and registered partnerships. America is fashionably late to the party.

America is fashionably late to the party. We're still on the racism issue. We'll be at your precious little gay party, don't you worry.

I will never understand why people are so concerned with what other adults do in the privacy of their own home. It affects them in no way.

An issue I feel that can be easily resolved if the state recognized all unions as "civil unions" instead and granted everyone the same rights and benefits that came with it.

When the older generation die we'll see actual progress on this issue.
