Utena returned to the forest and ventured deep into the darkest region where even the moon couldn't shine beyond the large trees that grew there. Wanting to make it extremely difficult for anyone to find her and not caring about the dangers that existed. If a monster came up and wanted to eat her Utena couldn't find herself putting up much of a fight. Not as long as she was such a threat alive and death sounded just as good as isolation.
Coming up to one of many trees in this part of the forest, Utena leaned up against it and slid down to the grass, folding her legs and burying her hands in her face as she wept silently. How could she have snapped at June like that? How could she have hurt her? Thought of killing her. Utena's mind was slowly fading away. Slowly but surely there would be nothing left but an empty shell. A shadow of one's former self. And if that what it took to assure that she never again endangered anyone then she would gladly remain here and starve herself. It was the only humane thing left to do after all the lives she's taken away through her weakened grip on reality.

It was getting dark and June was in such a hurry she didn't think to bring a flashlight with her. Standing the middle of the darkest part of the forest she looked around for any signs of light she could find. Didn't help her search much if she couldn't see what was right in front of her. Getting frustrated June did the only thing she could think of. Shout.
“UTENA!”
She couldn't have gotten far and surely she wouldn't just leave June alone in the forest knowing she was there, right?
“UTENA!”
Her cries would attract something but it wouldn't be Utena. The growls of a wolf reached the ears of June causing her to turn around to see glimpses of the wolf's body through the darkness. She started to slowly back away thinking of what she should do but as she did so she tripped right over a tree's root and fell to the ground releasing a terrified scream as the wolf lunged at her. |

Damn!
June followed her into the forest. Why did she have to follow her? Why couldn't she just let her be? Utena closed her eyes and covered her ears, holding back tears as she hoped June would give up and just go back home but that wouldn't be what happened. Instead something terrible would. A wild animal, wolf, would find her crying out in the forest and approached her. Despite having her ears covered Utena could still hear the growls of the wolf as June became silent as the grave.
The former Ohtori Champion could no longer turn her back on the child as she peeped around the tree to see June backing away slowly from the wolf. Utena thought about what to do next as she got up on her feet but watching June trip and fall took away the luxury of a plan causing Utena to act now. As the wolf lunged with its teeth bare at June, Utena tackled the wolf out of the air and began wrestling with it on the ground. It clawed her cheek and bit hard into her shoulder causing Utena to scream. The wolf went for another attack but Utena was able to hold him off long enough to take out a short sword and plunged it into the back of the wolf injuring it severely. The wolf got off of Utena and used its remaining strength to flee as Utena just laid against the grass bleeding out from the bite wound on her left shoulder.

“Utena?”
June got up to her hands and knees and could make out Utena laying motionless on the ground as the wolf ran away, the smell of blood reaching the child's nostrils as she went into a panic.
“Utena!”
June got up to her feet and ran over to Utena's side, falling on her knees next to her. Once she was close enough to make her out her eyes went wide at the sight of the large bite mark on her shoulder and the blood dripping from it.
“Oh my god! Oh my god!”
June looked around for something, anything to stop the bleeding while fighting to keep from losing her wits about her. When she failed to find anything around them she could use she ripped off her right sleeve and wrapped it around Utena's shoulder to stop the bleeding. That would work for the short-term but they had to get to the hospital to get that thing stitched up. She wasn't thinking about what story they would give as right now the only thing on June's mind was Utena's welfare.
“We need to get you a hospital. Can you walk?” |

If there was one good thing that could come out from all of this it was the fact that June was safe and sound without a scratch on her. Utena didn't get off so lucky but that was the price you pay for playing 'prince charming.' As she laid there on the ground with June screaming in her ear she managed to hear a rip and tear making her think something else was in the area but it turned out to just be June ripping off her sleeve in order to use it as a bandage for her shoulder. Utena smiled up at June, grateful for the hospitality considering not too long ago Utena had a knife held up to her throat. She was truly a saint but a frown crossed her features when June said the H word.
"No. No hospitals. I'll be just fine."
Utena tried to get up to show June that she was in good enough condition and didn't need a hospital but as soon as she tried to move pain spread throughout her entire body and she had to bite her bottom lip to keep from screaming. It looked like weather she wanted to admit it or not she was seriously hurt and needed medical attention. Just great. The hospital here was the last place she wanted to go.
"I don't suppose you know a private doctor..."

June was starting to get frustrated. Why did everyone she care about have to be so damn stubborn all the time? Deciding she have had enough of this, June was going to put her foot down right now.
“Utena, you're going to a hospital and that's the end of it. Now come on, I'll help you up.”
If Utena tried to fight her on this she was about to see just how stubborn she could be. Helping Utena rise to her feet, June gently placed Utena's arm around her neck and then placed an arm of her own around Utena to help lead her out of the forest. |

Looks like there was no fighting it. Utena let out a soft groan as June helped her up to her feet and the two of them started walking slowly through the forest for the nearest exit. Moon Valley was a small town so there was only need for the one hospital and Utena didn't know how far away that was from here. She's spent too much time isolated in the forest working on herbs and spices to learn about that. As they walked, guilt began to grow in Utena's heart to an all time high at all the crap she's put June through since day one. Slowly turning her head to her, as to not make her injuries any worse, she said, "I'm sorry, June. For everything."

“Don't worry about it, Utena. Don't even think it. We just need to focus on getting you we---”
“June “Morganna” Evans!”
As June and Utena made their way out of the forest and onto the side of the road they received a pair of headlights in their eyes soon followed by the voice of a woman, who looked like an older version of June, hollering out June's full name with a man and a girlish looking boy behind her. Of course it was June parents and her older brother Shinta, no doubt discovering she was gone and came looking for her. June knew she was in trouble big time but that wasn't important right now.
“What exactly do you think you're do---?”
“Look, Mom, when we get home you can yell at me to your heart's content but we need to get this girl to a hospital.”
“Oh my God! Van, help June get her into the car.”
June's father came to the opposite side of where she was holding Utena and helped her over to the back of the car that Shinta opened for them. After helping Utena into the back and strapping her in, June sat to her right while Shinta sat to her left and her parents started up the car at the front and made way for the hospital.

Utena was unable to shield her eyes and became blinded by headlights as a result. Though she couldn't see anything momentarily she heard the raised voice of an older woman yelling at June. As her blurred vision started to clear up she heard June uttered the word "mom" and saw that June's entire family was out and about, having looked for the girl who sneaked out to follow her. Just when Utena thought she couldn't feel any more guilty.
Utena felt another pair of hands helping her but wouldn't be abole to see his face until after being helped into the middle backseat of the car they drove, her vision finally completely cleared. Turning her head, Utena looked at June once more with an apologetic look. June was probably getting sick of that from her by now but she couldn't help it. Had it not been for her antics here tonight June never would have gotten in trouble with her family.
"I'm sorry. I've really made a mess of things."

“Hey, what did I just get finished telling you before? Don't worry about it.”
June held onto Utena's hand as the car went down the road. Shinta was looking Utena over being reminded of two people by her appearance. The first one of course being the Anime character both he and June had DVDs of and Tori. He would have thought it was Tori in cosplay if it weren't for June addressing her as Utena. But now was no time to be asking 20/20 questions. June, thinking that a chat would be good for Utena to keep her mind off her injuries while they headed for the hospital, decided to introduce the two.
“Utena, this is my older brother Shinta. Shinta, this is Utena, a friend of mine.”
“Pleasure, Utena. I wish we could have met under better circumstances.” |

A weak smile graced Utena's lips as she looked over to June from her seat. She was like a mother in a way, scolding her and telling her not to worry about it while trying her best to keep her mind off the pain. She was grateful to have any friends in this new and mysterious world, let alone one like June who reminded her so much of Anthy while at the same time having Utena fall in love with her for a whole different course of reasons than she loved Anthy for. Utena slowly turned her head to look at Shinta, trying her best not to aggravate her injuries further as the bumpy car ride was more than enough trouble for now.
"It's nice to meet you, Shinta. I too wish it could be under better circumstances."

“You know, you look an awful lot like–”
June shot Shinta a cold glance that instantly stopped Shinta dead in his tracks as he struggled to change the course of his sentence around in response.
“Someone I know.”
“Well, you know what they say, everybody has a twin.”
June turned away from Utena and wiped the sweat off her forehead. She would welcome being yelled at by her mother at this point as the stress of keeping Utena calm was about ready to kill her. They finally reached the hospital, June's father drove to the front of the hospital for her mother, brother, Utena and herself to get out while he went to find a place to park. June, Shinta and her mother helped Utena out of the car and then entered into the lobby of the hospital.
“We need a doctor over here!” called Ms. Evans after they arrived at the lobby. |

Utena was too weak to harness any anger over what she assumed Shinta was about to say before June interrupted him but she certainly appreciated the sentiment. The former champion of Ohtori smiled over at June despite it hurting her cheeks as the car came to a stop and the others were getting out before helping her from the car and to the hospital. Everything was bright, the lights bouncing around the white walls and right into her eyes as everything was getting blurry again. Doctors came over to look at Utena and then guided her over to a nearby hospital bed, helping her up on it and then rolling it down the hall on its wheels. All Utena could see were the bright lights illuminating over the doctors as her eyelids grew heavier and heavier until she could no longer keep them open and drifted off to sleep.

June and the rest of her family remained in the Waiting Room until the doctor told them it was okay to visit. Since the rest of the family didn't know the girl they remained in the Waiting Room, allowing June to enter the hospital room by herself to speak with Utena briefly before they returned home and she faced the music for leaving her bed.

Light. There was less light than before but still enough to blur her vision and make her put an arm up to shield her eyes. She heard a voice in the distance but as she came to that voice didn't sound so distant. Turning her head the former Champion of Ohtori could see June by her bedside and a smile came over her as she was glad to see the girl responsible for getting her to a hospital on time. Perhaps it was a good thing that June had insisted. Utena didn't want to think about where she'd be had June just left her in that forest.
"Like I got hit in the head by a rock," said Utena jokingly. "Thank you. I owe you my life."
