"Like I got hit in the head by a rock. Thank you. I owe you my life."
“No you don't. You saved my life when Isafaro settled here, remember? If anything this just makes us even.”
June didn't like remembering that day but it haunted her still. The day that their beautiful home became the property of the only dictatorship in Jherra and it was all due to the failed policies of Carari Grey and her Administration. If they ever had another election Carari Grey would be fortunate to even have a place on the ballot after all she's done.
“Besides I'm not keeping score.”

"Yet you remember the score perfectly," teased Utena. Utena slowly brought up her hand to touch June's, rubbing a thumb across the palm of her hand in either an attempt to comfort June or herself. The former Champion of Ohtori also remembered that day and how it was a terrible moment in Moon Valley's history. The end of democracy and the beginning of a totalitarian rule. And things only grew worse from there as the city lost its hero in Superwoman and June lost a friend to a god who nearly wiped them all out. Suddenly Ohtori Academy wasn't looking so bad now. "I'm sorry about Tori, June."

"Yet you remember the score perfectly."
June smiled and leaned forward to whisper, “And don't you forget it.” a small laugh leaving her lips soon after as she leaned back into her chair and held tightly onto Utena's hand, finding herself slowly getting lost into her beautiful hues of blue until she spoke again,
"I'm sorry about Tori, June."
At the memory of losing a friend June began staring at Utena's bed, but was really staring out into space as she thought about it. Tori wasn't the only friend she lost. She lost Kara too and both of them were people she knew all her life. Losing them were hard but she had her grieving period already. June knew that both of them wouldn't want her to feel sad forever.
“She's at peace now. That's the important thing.”

Utena smiled as June teased her right back. Though it hurt to laugh it was worth it in the girl's mind just to see June happy and then she had to go and open her big mouth and mention Tori, just like that the smile was gone. Utena remembered what her and the others were talking about. How Superwoman, Kara, how she could return from the afterlife itself. Did that also mean that Tori could do the same? Should she tell her? Would it be right to give her such hope when it could prove to be false? "Do you believe in life after death?"

"Do you believe in life after death?"
“No I don't. I believe once you're dead you just rot in the ground.”
It was a grim thought but the one that made the most logical sense with what she knew. Unlike her parents June and her older brother were atheists. They didn't believe in life after death nor did they believe in any kind of omnipotent creator. And while they have bare witness to many strange things none of it has yet to link to either an afterlife or a creator. Though with the realities the way they were June definitely couldn't deny the possibility. But it was still unlikely in her own world to her mind.
“It's doubtful we have a soul either.”

A grim thought indeed. To think that they're just hurled into this world against their will, live a long gruesome life full of obstacles to overcome just to one day die and either return to the ground or be reduced to ashes in an urn and with no point to it all. Utena would rather believe there was something more out there and with all she's seen so far how could she think anything less? "So you don't believe in ghosts? Spirits stuck here because they can't move on or lack a body of their own."

“No. Why are you asking me all of this?”
It's not like Utena was going to die. She was right here safe and sound and the doctors did a wonderful job of fixing her wounds. So it's not like she had any reason to think that she would be dying anytime soon and be faced with the age old question if there's life after death. Unless of course she wasn't thinking about herself at all.
“Is there something you would like to tell me?”

Uh oh. June was starting to get suspicious of all these random questions relating to death. It was time to pull back and keep to herself otherwise they were about to have another uncomfortable conversation that June already suggested she wouldn't believe in anyway and therefore would more than likely be offended at the idea. "No. Nothing. I was just striking up conversation is all. You should go. Don't want to keep your family waiting too long. I'm sure you're in enough trouble already."

June eyed Utena suspiciously, not believing the explanation she gave for asking all of those questions regarding whether or not an afterlife exist but for now she thought it was a conversation best saved for later. Utena needed to regain her strength and she needed to get back home so she could get her punishment out of the way and get some shut eye.
“All right. I'll leave you to get your rest. Take care, Utena.”
June gave her a smile before sitting up from the chair and leaving the hospital room.

"Take care of yourself, June." Utena watched June leave, a sadness suddenly overwhelming her upon the girl's departure but Utena shook it off as she looked around the room in order to distract herself. But all she could think about was June. Her short brown hair, her beautiful and round chocolate brown eyes and her soft skin. Already she was excited about the next time she could see and talk with her again. Was this love? No. Utena didn't feel that way about women. She knew there were rumors when it came to her and Anthy but they were just really close friends. Utena didn't feel 'that' way about members of her own sex.
Or did she?
