You didn't figure it out either.  I wasn't giving it much thought. You see, I like to read a story from beginning to end and then think about it after I'm done. Maricul did something intelligent to stop him despite not holding enough power to beat him on her own; she shredded the barriers between dimensions to ensure that the only way Aper could save Genesis would be by filling the portals with a constant energy output - sealing him in place for all of eternity to preserve the realm.

It's a pretty good plan. If you can't stop him - at least add unto the distance he needs to travel before reaching his destination.
