Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Chloe's Corner. Today we sit with the man responsible for the dual suns in the sky! The mind behind the Arashi, Tajna Rasha:
Q: Introduce yourself for the people who don't know you very well.
A: Hey guys, this is Gui. You guys may be more familiar calling me Tajna around here, but I have had many aliases over my RPing career of about 9 years. The one that stuck around would definitely be Ranka; one of the first character I ever wrote and still play to this day. I’m from Quebec in Canada, and some of you may be interested to know French is my first language. I first got into RPing as a mean to learn English. I’ve actually known some of the members of Dead On Arrival for a very long time now – Ayen, Daikus and I go back as far back as 2005.
Q: What was your inspirations for creating the Veran character and the Arashi as a whole and how long did it take to fully flesh them out?
A: A great many deal of things pushed me to create Veran. He started off on a site called Devil May Cry: Legacy of Sparda, which despite its namesake was a lot like DOA with players left and right borrowing from a diversity of fandoms and/or their own original material. When I came up with the concept for Veran, I wanted to play a character that would represent my own version of what I considered to be true evil – and by that I don’t mean some baddie with aspirations to enslave humanity or anything like that, but simply a being that could strike fear into the devil himself. As a big fan of things like F.E.A.R. and Diablo I knew that the best way to achieve this end would be by delving into the realm of nightmares and making those monstrosities we see only in dreams come to life.
So there was Amoura; a new comer to the site with an exceptionally strong character - the daughter of Mundus - going out and about in full possession of her means as an heir to the demon throne. She presented a perfect opportunity for me to break down someone into pieces and submit them to the worst kinds of tortures. Ginny played herself so well into that impossible situation that the whole thing eventually snowballed into something much bigger than it originally set to be: The character carried over into many sites and the events shaped Amoura and those around her in such a way I had to find a way to continue that story-arc.
It wasn’t until I stumbled on a site called Ajerian Wars and came up with the concept that would eventually spawn Aper that I thought it would be interesting if somehow the two characters ended up being connected. That’s when the idea for the Arashi flowed in and I finally had a reason for everything surrounding Veran’s actions and what would eventually become a focal point of the events that would transpire within DOA. I have to thank Ayen and Daikus for having given me the opportunity to create and such interesting characters and giving me carte-blanche to do what I felt best at… total and utter mindfuck.
Q: Many of your characters have been referenced throughout the forum in one way or another, how do you feel about the impact your work has had on others and did you ever think they would affect people the way they have?
A: It’s a lot of fun to see how many things come back through the actions of other players and I’m really honoured to know people genuinely liked some of the thing’s I’ve created over the year. Seeing how this whole thing started off as a ploy for me to learn a second language, I really never set out to create anything other than out of simple fun. Looking back on it now, it really baffles me how things have evolved since, let alone how many of my characters who have yet to make an appearance on DOA have just as much of an impact in their absence as certain characters do by being active.
Q: If Veran, Aper and Tajna Rasha got into a fight who would win?
A: Tajna is no where near the same level as the other two. If you want to get into the technicalities of which is the strongest, you have to look at their powers, the way they treat their adversaries… and they’re all so different! Veran bends reality itself by making the infamous Waking Nightmare a reality while Aper is raw infinite power. Between the Arashi it’s a tough call, but I guess you have your answer by looking at which of the two is left standing.
Q: Are there any other characters on the forum right now (not including your own) that stick out to you and how come?
A: Definitely Miracle; I always appreciate when someone really puts their mind to the creation of a character. Zira outdid herself in making an avatar that demanded her to go on hours of religious google-search. Not only that, but Miracle herself has made such an impression she is now one of the centre-most figures of the roleplay here on DOA, and that was without any baggage carrying over from previous sites unlike many here – many of my characters included. I also have a sweet spot for many of Ayen’s characters; he has such an insanely varied ensemble of people to play with its mind boggling to think how he manages it at all – or not find at least one that would fit anyone’s liking. Finally it’s obvious that I adore Amoura for reasons I have named before. Kudos too many members I had never seen before whom I have been following their threads, namely Kragen, Garrus, DC Comics, Darius and Mariya.
Q: Which character of yours do you personally enjoy writing for the most?
A: I have a soft-spot for my Vampire Mercenary Ranka: He was one of my originals and while I grow out of most of my characters, he continues to be an inspiration to this day. Writing for him is also far easier than for a certain omnipotent, omnipresent being you all know… There’s no concept or thought beyond him being this intelligent and quietly badass demon hunter that has this ‘‘by all means necessary’’ mentality to accomplish his job. There’s no need to explain the great plan behind his every thought, or read into every single one of his actions to get that he’s a really fun character to play and read.
Q: Which thread, in your opinion, is the best we've seen here in DOA thus far?
A: You’re a good one for asking the tough questions! Man, there have been so many good threads over the forum’s life… all with different people and many different story arcs. I don’t want to sound self-serving when saying this, but I really have to tip my hat over to The Valley of Death simply because it was the first thread that really got most of the forum involved in an event that would change so many things about the direction the boards would take. It had a huge impact on DOA and the battle of Aircano was epic. It allowed people to get together and start their own stories, me to introduce the Arashi, and Ayen to create entirely new boards. As of yet, there just hasn’t been another thread able to top it in my opinion. I still wish I were able to give honourable mention to at least a couple dozen more threads which I found just as enjoyable, however. While Valley of Death was awesome, it’s really all about what the people decided to do with it thereafter that truly made it memorable.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: I love to think of cool ways to switch it up on the board, and even more so when people get involved. So if anyone is looking for someone with similar goals, please look no further. Oh and don’t worry – I don’t brutally torture everyone that meets my characters… I think? Anyway, my experience on DOA’s been a very pleasant one and I hope everyone continues to be just as awesome and supportive as they have been during the past months.
Y’all rule.
Thank you for this interview!
