"Thank you for coming on such short notice, Miracle. Crystal City owes you a great debt."
Miracle stood in the center of a round room with hollow floors and crystal walls. Standing in front of her were three elders dressed in white robes with gold trims. The one who has just spoken had shoulder-length white hair, blue eyes and a beard that went down to his chest. They had all felt the overwhelming sensation of pure darkness that swept the land and now lingers over it. The elders knew what it was, Miracle on the other hand had yet to confront a being of such darkness. The Arashi was indeed a powerful adversary to face on the battlefield which she has proven herself against, however it was neither a warrior of light nor dark. This new enemy was the darkness. Disease. A being that the elders of Crystal City had hoped Miracle would never have to face but the time has finally arrived.
"It was no problem at all."
"I trust you've already felt the reason we're here now."
The second man had long dark brown hair, brown eyes and his beard went all the way down to his stomach. He was two inches taller than the first elder, who were 6'0.
"I felt it. What was it?"
"Something we hope you would never have to face."
The third and final elder of the three was a woman, possessing short blond hair that ran down just the back of her neck and emerald green eyes, naturally being the shortest of the three elders at 5'5.
"The king of demons: Lord Beelzebub."
Miracle's heart sank and her eyes widened in shock when the name was uttered from the elder's lips. She had heard the stories of the god of darkness; the monsters he created and the plagues he's unleashed before being sealed away but never dreamed it would be something that she would one day encounter in her life time.
"Lord Beelezbub has returned?"
"It seems so. This could drastically affect our plans concerning the Downward Spiral. If Genesis is altered by his devils influence it will become even more difficult to reach compromises with the other nations. Even the most reasonable of people will become impossible to reach."
"There's also the issue of those you keep in your company. The ones of the non-human variety."
"I assure you that they can be trusted."
"It's not that we don't trust them, it's more or less an issue of them becoming a liability to us."
"Lord Beelzebub power comes from the darkness and the darkness is at it's strongest in demonic forces. Devils are his to command, to control. We do not know if this affects demons from different realms but it is a very strong possibility that he would be able to influence the "demons" in your care in some way."
"The vampires are just as big a risk. Though treated like second class citizens vampires are still demonic in origin and therefore are just as likely to be subdued by Beelzebub's influence."
"Which is why we feel it's critical that they are not present within Crystal City."
"I.... I'll talk to them. Explain the situation."
"For the evil that is coming there is but one more trial you must face."
"This will test your ability to make unpleasant decisions, as well as your leadership."
"You are to go into the desert region with a small group of foot soldiers where you will face Lord Beelzebub."
"You will be tested, tempted with your heart's greatest desires. You will also have the task of keeping your men alive."
"Your goal is to overcome the god's power through force of will and keep as many of your soldiers alive as humanly possible."
"You want me to put people lives in danger for some test?"
"Without a unit to command you cannot prove your leadership skills in the trials."
"I don't care! I'm not putting anymore lives in danger! I'll go alone."
"That would be unwise."
"It's my choice."
The three elders looked at each other for a moment before returning their glances towards Miracle.
"Very well. You will venture into the desert alone and face temptation as Jesus did before you. May the LORD thy God be with you."
Miracle bowed her head and replied, "Thank you."
The young High Priestess turned around and made her leave, already feeling her nerves trying to get the better of her as she left the chamber of the elders. This could very well be.... her greatest trial yet.
