History: The trio first met during the 1996 - 1997 school year when Buffy first moved into town. The city was always a magnet for odd occurrences but Xander and Willow wouldn't know to what extent until Buffy came to town and they found out that vampires exist, Buffy is the Vampire Slayer and their school is literally sitting on top of a hell mouth. What a Tuesday! From there the three began working together, Xander and Willow closer to the research side of things while Buffy went out and did the actual slaying. More people would come in to their circle; new friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, sisters. But the three always remained as close as ever, their bond only growing stronger over time.
Seven years later the threat of the First original evil threatened to release an ancient vampire army by opening the Hell Mouth from below the city. Through a spell cast by Willow turning all the potential slayers they have recruited for the battle into real active slayers as Buffy was, they took the fight to the Hell Mouth and the battle saw the destruction of the Hell Mouth, which of course led to the entire small town being reduced to a crater. This left the group unsure of what to do next but while they made their way down the road a bright light would blind the group and when it finally faded Buffy, Xander and Willow would find themselves in an unknown location with the rest of their friends nowhere to be found.
