In light of dissatisfaction by some of you towards the up-coming version 5 of ProBoards coming out, and even more of you towards the obligated PG-13 rating, I pose this question. For $15.00 a year we can get a domain name at Domain Cheap and $10.00 a month a space on a server at Host Gator using Simple Machines Forums for the forum itself. The main advantage being that we would no longer be obliged to follow a rating rule and have more say on overall forum content. For an example on what SMF looks like click hereThe downside if we decide to move, other than it no longer being free, is that ProBoards doesn't allow exporting. So we can't transfer any of our threads to the new site. The most we'd be able to do is repost important threads like the Rules and Background Info, then link to important threads. We could also have a board on the new forum for the purpose of linking back to here treating this site as an archive. If you're in the middle of a thread during the move you'd have to restart the topic but from there all you'd have to do is just link to the old thread and pick up where you left off. You'd also have to re-register but we can resort all your post counts for you. Of course if anyone here can find a better offer feel free to post it here as a possible alternative. We won't be setting anything in stone until a majority can agree on how to proceed. Now. Do you all want to change forum hosts or stay here? Let us know by voting and replying with your thoughts. Thank you.

Is there not a free host provider somewhere that doesn't requite a mandatory content rating?

Yes. It'd be nice to post on a host where we don't have to worry if we're pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable forum content to publish on here. I'm not for going crazy with such freedom but we've lost a couple of good threads to this guideline which I personally didn't find to be that graphic in the first place. If funding isn't a problem I'm behind a move 100%.

Looks like I'm going to be the first one to say no. Personally I don't think the PG-13 rating and v5 are such huge inconveniences for us. It's a shame that we lost one or two threads, but that potentially could have been avoided if clarification was asked if it was a particular post that needed changing or the whole topic. As for v5 most of the complaints I'm seeing of it are people who have gotten used to the v4 software. It's just people who are afraid of change. Once v5 comes out and people get used to it I doubt many of us are even going to remember how things worked in v4. All in all I don't think anything sufficient enough has happened to warrant a move on this large a scale.

I agree with DC. The forum rating hasn't been that big of an issue on here except for a couple of instances (and by a couple I mean literally two times it happened in the past year) and as for version 5, much like DmC, we should at least wait for the finished product before we judge it. Right now it's still in beta testing, they're still sorting out bugs and modifying it as complaints and suggestions come in. I see no reason for a move. ProBoards is who we are.

Isn't invisionfree, well...free? It's what we use for my star wars game and we usually do nice and long torture threads on there, never catch any trouble. Before dropping money for it, I'd recommend that.

I'm of DC's opinion on this one, which may come as a surprise to a lot of you seeing as the content issue is partly on my shoulders. Posts can be easily edited in accordance with the TOS and still push the boundaries in terms of storytelling.
Also asking for a change of host in response to a version update seems a little counter-intuitive. If the new format bothers you because it's learning a new interface, that option will certainly not solve that problem. Furthermore this is asking Ayen to take on a legitimate financial role in his forum, and I don't think that's fair. We've done well - more than well - for more than a year. I don't see why suddenly this is seen as a possibility, let alone a necessity by some.

As much as I hate the admin panel in v5 I don't think it constitutes a move. Nor do I think being able to have a R rating or higher would be worth the time and effort.

Yes. As a writer I find any type of enforced site rating to be restricting and contradictory to a setting where only our imagination should be the limit. On here I have to be very careful not to cross a line I think shouldn't be a factor in the first place. If it's at all possible to change hosting to resolve this then I'm for it but only if it doesn't come as an inconvenience for the admins here. So please, only consider my yes vote if it's no inconvenience to you.

Im with Legion on this one. I like to write. If we can move without a problem then im all for it, however if a problem does show its ugly end... I do not mind it staying here.
