He carries with him a black staff covered in arcane and long forgotten runic symbols that seem to pulse with an unholy light when he channels energy through it. On his left hip rides a long and black battle blade, known only as the Blackblade.

He’s often quiet, having taken to living mostly in his own head, as demons aren’t great company or very talkative. He’s still, despite his history, a somewhat decent person. He doesn’t kill needlessly, and never does more than he has to in order to achieve his ends.
When on his own however, he can be found at any major metropolitan city enjoying an expensive meal at a fine restaurant with a book. It grants dominion over the weaker willed masses as well, bending them to its wielders will. In addition, whenever its wielder is struck, it emits a bolt of unholy blood red lightning to strike back. It also wreathes its wearer in blackfire, burning away those that come too close. It also grants the ability to see through darkness as well as if it were brilliant daylight, and allows the viewing of things in the infrared spectrum, and through solid matter.

The gauntlets enhance the strength of the wearer tenfold, allowing them to strike with bone shattering force. The boots vastly increase the wearers speed, despite the weight of the armour. The armour is also enchanted to be resistant to the elements, meaning the wearer is comfortable in any locale, to have its weight vastly reduced, to float in water and be donned with a single spoken word. It also grants water breathing, and bears a magical shield that can absorb several lives worth of magical damage, or from a weapon that can bypass the armour. The boots leave no trace of the bearers passing, be it footprints or scent, and lets him move in utter silence.
The Shroud of Erebus- A midnight black cloak, seemingly woven from the shadows themselves. The cloak grants the ability of flight to its wearer, the ability to become unseen if so chosen, and a powerful regeneration. Constant darkness seems to drip from the cloak in a gentle mist, and it can enshroud an entire area in darkness at a moment’s notice.
The Elemental Rings- Powerful magical artifacts forged by Aegwyn to defend Dominaria, they grant mastery over an element. Nicodemus possesses several; Fire, Lightning, Water, Wind and Earth.
History:
As a forewarning, this won’t be a great history style. It’s mostly a collection of adventures I was in using him, and his early days are ad hoc since I have no idea of what they were really like. The rest is as true as I can remember it.
Born on the isle of Veruna, on the world of Dominaria, Nicodemus was a royal prince. Raised with the finest tutors their island had to offer, he was well versed in many subjects. As their isle was also home to the third largest library of their world, he was raised with exposure to many different ideas and beliefs. He’d practice with the guards whenever able, learning to defend himself if need be, mostly because his was a world where even Kings could be subject to challenge, and was also taught magicks as a lad, to round out his education. By the time of his eighteenth birthday, and his coming of age, he ascended to the throne of Veruna, for his father had passed away of old age. Despite his heavy heart at his father’s passing, he rose to the challenge of Kingship with grace and poise. He quickly became beloved by his people, as he always put their interest before political ones. Veruna quickly became a place of knowledge and learning, a more mundane version of Dalaran to the west. Many citizens came from the world over to travel to his kingdom, and he made frequent public appearances, together with his brother who became the High Priest or their church.
After eight years of reigning as King, he arranged for his brother to rule in his absence while he travelled, seeking new ways to improve his peoples life, to bring them more knowledge, and to garner more power with war on the horizon for the main continent. During this time, he travelled to the mainland and sought instructors in the controlling of elements. Water came naturally to him, as he was raised on an island, and amazingly, fire did as well, for he had great passion within him for his people and their defense. He spent a few years learning what he could from the instructors he found, before setting forth on his journey once more. By this point, he realized that while he’d travelled and trained among hermits on mountains, the war he’d dreaded had begun. It was an invasion of his world by a race of mechanical monstrosities known as Phyrexians. The greatest heros of the land had been caught and imprisoned deep within the stronghold of Moria, and heavily guarded. As these warriors were all friends of his, he was even further incensed to save them. He stormed the stronghold on his own, driving the enemy before him before meeting up with the draconic allies of his friend Atris. Together, they burst through the defenders of Moria, driving deep into the lower levels where he found his friends and managed to free them.
Before they could escape however, they were beset by the Phyrexians elite warriors, the Negators. It was a losing battle, and Nicodemus through everything he had into a powerful spell, hurling his allies free from Moria, leaving himself trapped and subject to their tortures. He spent many long years languishing in the Darksteel dungeons, bound to the floor, coated by mana leeches which drained the magical energy from him. After a long while, the war was won, and his friends finally found their way to him deep within the dark holds of Moria, and found him alive, much to their delight. Together, they led their friend who made a great sacrifice for them and their world towards the light he’d never thought to see again. Unbeknownst to them, the many years had taken their toll on the still young king, who was now just reaching his early thirties.
For many more years he continued to wander, before becoming employed by the angels. They’d found a pocket plane attached to Dominaria, and bade him investigate, to determine if it was a Phyrexian outpost, or some new threat to their world. Gladly he strode forth to do battle with whatever beast threatened his friends and his home, and it was the turning point for his life. The land was bleak and barren, the sky a constant angry red and chunks of rock floated through the air. In the distance he had spotted a palace, and made for it with all due haste. It was here that fate took control of him. Within the deserted palace, he found a pedestal, and upon it floated a staff covered in arcane markings. Curious as to what it was, and unknowing of the danger it presented, he plucked it, and so unknowingly sealed his own downfall. For the staff was no ordinary staff, it was the Necromancers stave. A powerful dark artifact that oozed its own corruption, devouring everything it crossed. Immediately it filled him, though he was as of yet unaware of it. Making a hasty retreat before encountering and opposition, he returned to the angelic realm bearing his prize.
Upon his arrival, he was attacked immediately, the world around him, a world made of pure light, darkening and seemingly to diminish. The angels recognized the staff and its effects, and wasted no time in trying to destroy it. Banished from the world of angels, he was hurtled to his own plane, Dominaria. He crashed into the ground with bone shattering force, but was unharmed. It was then he began to feel the effects of the staff as it infused his body with unholy vitality and strength as his mind subconsciously drew off it to preserve his body. Immediately the agony rolled through him as the corruption spread. Unholy, fell energies suffused him, infusing him with their dark power, turning him into a half demon. After several days of unconsciousness, he awoke and he was a broken man. After all his constant struggles for the light, he was betrayed without a moment’s notice. He returned to his kingdom and found he had been reviled there as well, for they could feel the taint of corruption in him, staining the land around him. Banished from his own kingdom, he was left to wander, eventually finding his way to Taros, and the demonic gates that resided within its borders. The staff whispered words of power to him, and as they fell from his lips, the long dormant gate awoke, a swirling portal of energy thrumming to life before him.
The portal lead him to the world of Outland, where he’d first found the staff. It was here that he established his new kingdom. Within the palace, he’d found everything he’d need. Ancient and powerful magical generators conjured demonic soldiers for him, while another shrouded his palace in a powerful shield. It was here that he raised his army, gathering human followers from the lands of Dominaria with evil in their hearts. The assassins of the Ebon Hand flocked to his banner, and grew more prosperous under his rule than they had in centuries before. Deeming his power still inadequate, he summoned his elite guard and stormed the library of Dalaran, seizing the Book of Medivh, a powerful magical tome that had recorded every magic to grace his plane. With it in his possession, he retreated to his sanctuary and set about studying it, quickly rising to become a most powerful and feared mage, well versed in the dark arts and many more besides. Fearing his growing power, the angels that had once been his allies led an assault on his fortress, led by Serra herself. With his new found power, he managed to repel the assault, but not before they managed to reclaim the book of Medivh, returning it to Dalaran where it became even more powerfully guarded to prevent such occurrences in the future.
It was of little matter to him, as he’d already turned his mind to new enterprises. True, he had his staff, but one artifact was not enough for him. He needed even more power. He set out in search of even more artifacts, and within a few years, he’d amassed quite a bit of power. He’d recovered several of the elemental rings, and had arranged for a suit of powerful Darksteel to be forged for him, a belated gift to celebrate his elevation to his new position from an old friend of his who’d ever condescended him for being a plaything of angels. Together, the two of them became feared throughout the plane. Ruler of Taros, and Ruler of Outland, the two most powerful dark mages of their age. With the recovery of the rings, Nicodemus set out in search of a mage named Horazon, whom he battled time and again, before becoming his student. In less than a year, he grew even more powerful. Further educated in magical theory, enchanting and principles, he was also now able to combine his spells for even more devastating effects.
After his training, his friend and he met on the world of Mirrodin whilst he was searching for a sword. Eyeing each other warily, they both knew that only one could claim the blade, and so settled it in the only mature way possible. They raced with every ounce of magical skill and backstabbing treachery they had. Upon reaching the summit and entering the vault, both dove for a blade, and luck was on his side. For Nicodemus retrieved the Blackblade, a powerful artifact forged in ages long since passed. His friend, however, had accidentally grabbed up Azurewrath, a powerful angelic runeblade that burned him at the touch, and a quick blow from Nicodemus threw him off long enough to slam the vault door shut, leaving him trapped within. After awhile however, Nicodemus returned and set his friend few, and both agreed it was an inspired maneuver over drinks and a meal. Despite the fact they had been at opposite sides in their race for the sword, they maintained a firm friendship.
Over many long years, Nicodemus’ reputation only grew further, as well as his power. He slew Sylvanas, high priest of Silvermoon and devoured her soul for more strength, burning a patch from the fur of the wood god Cenarius as he did so. He battled angels and elder demons, demi gods and elder gods, forgotten gods and unseen horrors whose names had been long since lost to history as he ever sought ways of increasing his power. Over his years of study, he felt a call to him one day. Something from across the walls of reality, beckoning to him to come forth, a powerful emanation that he was quick to answer. Gathering his might and arsenal to him, he opened the portal to the world known as Genesis, and emerged right onto a new battlefield

The gauntlets enhance the strength of the wearer tenfold, allowing them to strike with bone shattering force. The boots vastly increase the wearers speed, despite the weight of the armour. The armour is also enchanted to be resistant to the elements, meaning the wearer is comfortable in any locale, to have its weight vastly reduced, to float in water and be donned with a single spoken word. It also grants water breathing, and bears a magical shield that can absorb several lives worth of magical damage, or from a weapon that can bypass the armour. The boots leave no trace of the bearers passing, be it footprints or scent, and lets him move in utter silence.
The Shroud of Erebus- A midnight black cloak, seemingly woven from the shadows themselves. The cloak grants the ability of flight to its wearer, the ability to become unseen if so chosen, and a powerful regeneration. Constant darkness seems to drip from the cloak in a gentle mist, and it can enshroud an entire area in darkness at a moment’s notice.
The Elemental Rings- Powerful magical artifacts forged by Aegwyn to defend Dominaria, they grant mastery over an element. Nicodemus possesses several; Fire, Lightning, Water, Wind and Earth.
History:
As a forewarning, this won’t be a great history style. It’s mostly a collection of adventures I was in using him, and his early days are ad hoc since I have no idea of what they were really like. The rest is as true as I can remember it.
Born on the isle of Veruna, on the world of Dominaria, Nicodemus was a royal prince. Raised with the finest tutors their island had to offer, he was well versed in many subjects. As their isle was also home to the third largest library of their world, he was raised with exposure to many different ideas and beliefs. He’d practice with the guards whenever able, learning to defend himself if need be, mostly because his was a world where even Kings could be subject to challenge, and was also taught magicks as a lad, to round out his education. By the time of his eighteenth birthday, and his coming of age, he ascended to the throne of Veruna, for his father had passed away of old age. Despite his heavy heart at his father’s passing, he rose to the challenge of Kingship with grace and poise. He quickly became beloved by his people, as he always put their interest before political ones. Veruna quickly became a place of knowledge and learning, a more mundane version of Dalaran to the west. Many citizens came from the world over to travel to his kingdom, and he made frequent public appearances, together with his brother who became the High Priest or their church.
After eight years of reigning as King, he arranged for his brother to rule in his absence while he travelled, seeking new ways to improve his peoples life, to bring them more knowledge, and to garner more power with war on the horizon for the main continent. During this time, he travelled to the mainland and sought instructors in the controlling of elements. Water came naturally to him, as he was raised on an island, and amazingly, fire did as well, for he had great passion within him for his people and their defense. He spent a few years learning what he could from the instructors he found, before setting forth on his journey once more. By this point, he realized that while he’d travelled and trained among hermits on mountains, the war he’d dreaded had begun. It was an invasion of his world by a race of mechanical monstrosities known as Phyrexians. The greatest heros of the land had been caught and imprisoned deep within the stronghold of Moria, and heavily guarded. As these warriors were all friends of his, he was even further incensed to save them. He stormed the stronghold on his own, driving the enemy before him before meeting up with the draconic allies of his friend Atris. Together, they burst through the defenders of Moria, driving deep into the lower levels where he found his friends and managed to free them.
Before they could escape however, they were beset by the Phyrexians elite warriors, the Negators. It was a losing battle, and Nicodemus through everything he had into a powerful spell, hurling his allies free from Moria, leaving himself trapped and subject to their tortures. He spent many long years languishing in the Darksteel dungeons, bound to the floor, coated by mana leeches which drained the magical energy from him. After a long while, the war was won, and his friends finally found their way to him deep within the dark holds of Moria, and found him alive, much to their delight. Together, they led their friend who made a great sacrifice for them and their world towards the light he’d never thought to see again. Unbeknownst to them, the many years had taken their toll on the still young king, who was now just reaching his early thirties.
For many more years he continued to wander, before becoming employed by the angels. They’d found a pocket plane attached to Dominaria, and bade him investigate, to determine if it was a Phyrexian outpost, or some new threat to their world. Gladly he strode forth to do battle with whatever beast threatened his friends and his home, and it was the turning point for his life. The land was bleak and barren, the sky a constant angry red and chunks of rock floated through the air. In the distance he had spotted a palace, and made for it with all due haste. It was here that fate took control of him. Within the deserted palace, he found a pedestal, and upon it floated a staff covered in arcane markings. Curious as to what it was, and unknowing of the danger it presented, he plucked it, and so unknowingly sealed his own downfall. For the staff was no ordinary staff, it was the Necromancers stave. A powerful dark artifact that oozed its own corruption, devouring everything it crossed. Immediately it filled him, though he was as of yet unaware of it. Making a hasty retreat before encountering and opposition, he returned to the angelic realm bearing his prize.
Upon his arrival, he was attacked immediately, the world around him, a world made of pure light, darkening and seemingly to diminish. The angels recognized the staff and its effects, and wasted no time in trying to destroy it. Banished from the world of angels, he was hurtled to his own plane, Dominaria. He crashed into the ground with bone shattering force, but was unharmed. It was then he began to feel the effects of the staff as it infused his body with unholy vitality and strength as his mind subconsciously drew off it to preserve his body. Immediately the agony rolled through him as the corruption spread. Unholy, fell energies suffused him, infusing him with their dark power, turning him into a half demon. After several days of unconsciousness, he awoke and he was a broken man. After all his constant struggles for the light, he was betrayed without a moment’s notice. He returned to his kingdom and found he had been reviled there as well, for they could feel the taint of corruption in him, staining the land around him. Banished from his own kingdom, he was left to wander, eventually finding his way to Taros, and the demonic gates that resided within its borders. The staff whispered words of power to him, and as they fell from his lips, the long dormant gate awoke, a swirling portal of energy thrumming to life before him.
The portal lead him to the world of Outland, where he’d first found the staff. It was here that he established his new kingdom. Within the palace, he’d found everything he’d need. Ancient and powerful magical generators conjured demonic soldiers for him, while another shrouded his palace in a powerful shield. It was here that he raised his army, gathering human followers from the lands of Dominaria with evil in their hearts. The assassins of the Ebon Hand flocked to his banner, and grew more prosperous under his rule than they had in centuries before. Deeming his power still inadequate, he summoned his elite guard and stormed the library of Dalaran, seizing the Book of Medivh, a powerful magical tome that had recorded every magic to grace his plane. With it in his possession, he retreated to his sanctuary and set about studying it, quickly rising to become a most powerful and feared mage, well versed in the dark arts and many more besides. Fearing his growing power, the angels that had once been his allies led an assault on his fortress, led by Serra herself. With his new found power, he managed to repel the assault, but not before they managed to reclaim the book of Medivh, returning it to Dalaran where it became even more powerfully guarded to prevent such occurrences in the future.
It was of little matter to him, as he’d already turned his mind to new enterprises. True, he had his staff, but one artifact was not enough for him. He needed even more power. He set out in search of even more artifacts, and within a few years, he’d amassed quite a bit of power. He’d recovered several of the elemental rings, and had arranged for a suit of powerful Darksteel to be forged for him, a belated gift to celebrate his elevation to his new position from an old friend of his who’d ever condescended him for being a plaything of angels. Together, the two of them became feared throughout the plane. Ruler of Taros, and Ruler of Outland, the two most powerful dark mages of their age. With the recovery of the rings, Nicodemus set out in search of a mage named Horazon, whom he battled time and again, before becoming his student. In less than a year, he grew even more powerful. Further educated in magical theory, enchanting and principles, he was also now able to combine his spells for even more devastating effects.
After his training, his friend and he met on the world of Mirrodin whilst he was searching for a sword. Eyeing each other warily, they both knew that only one could claim the blade, and so settled it in the only mature way possible. They raced with every ounce of magical skill and backstabbing treachery they had. Upon reaching the summit and entering the vault, both dove for a blade, and luck was on his side. For Nicodemus retrieved the Blackblade, a powerful artifact forged in ages long since passed. His friend, however, had accidentally grabbed up Azurewrath, a powerful angelic runeblade that burned him at the touch, and a quick blow from Nicodemus threw him off long enough to slam the vault door shut, leaving him trapped within. After awhile however, Nicodemus returned and set his friend few, and both agreed it was an inspired maneuver over drinks and a meal. Despite the fact they had been at opposite sides in their race for the sword, they maintained a firm friendship.
Over many long years, Nicodemus’ reputation only grew further, as well as his power. He slew Sylvanas, high priest of Silvermoon and devoured her soul for more strength, burning a patch from the fur of the wood god Cenarius as he did so. He battled angels and elder demons, demi gods and elder gods, forgotten gods and unseen horrors whose names had been long since lost to history as he ever sought ways of increasing his power. Over his years of study, he felt a call to him one day. Something from across the walls of reality, beckoning to him to come forth, a powerful emanation that he was quick to answer. Gathering his might and arsenal to him, he opened the portal to the world known as Genesis, and emerged right onto a new battlefield
