The Miranda class starship the USS Midori made it way across Federation space under the command of its newly commissioned captain Tori Jacobs who sat comfortably in her captain seat with the rest of the bridge officers. That was until the ship suddenly shook and Tori held onto her chair to remain seated because the future didn't believe in seat belts.
“Report,” said the captain.
“We're being pulled towards some kind of vortex that just opened right in front of us,” replied the primarily flight control officer.
“On screen.”
Tori stood up from her seat and took a couple of steps forward while emerald green eyes studied the vortex now in front of her.
“Any idea where it leads?”
“Unknown. It doesn't appear to match any known spatial anomalies we've encountered before.”
“The vortex seems to be increasing in strength pulling us in faster,” said the secondary flight control officer.
“Pull us out, full impulse engines.”
The ship went to full impulse as it turned around, attempting to break free of the tug the vortex had on them but the vortex only became even stronger, turning the ship to the side and knocking the crew members down to the floor as the ship was plunged through the vortex with its shields barely able to hold against the impact from outside until it was spat out on the other side, the vortex quickly closing soon after as the ship began drifting through an unknown sector of space. Little did they realize however that the unknown sector of space to them wasn't even in the same reality as they were.
Tori pulled herself up to her feet seconds before the rest of the on-duty officers got up and returned to theirs. Returning to her seat to rest for a moment as she looked up to the screen which was now showing
“Status report.”
“Weapons and shields are offline,” said the tactical officer. “And there's a radiation leak on the below desk from the science labs.”
“According to our coordinates we've not only left Federation space, we've left the galaxy.”
“What?”
“Captain, I'm picking up strong energy readings coming from the planet surface,” said the science officer.
“Hold onto that thought. I want radiation cleaning of the below deck ASAP. Lieutenant, get those weapons back online.”
Tori pressed her combadge.
“Engineering.”
“Yes, Captain?” replied the Chief Engineer.
“How's everything doing down there?”
“We're fine, Captain. The warp core is still stable.”
“Good to hear it. Jacobs out.”
Tori pressed on the combadge again to end communications as a team from the bridge went down to begin radiation cleaning. Tori walked over to the right side of the bridge where the lead science bridge officer was for an update on the earlier energy readings.
“What do you have?”
“Take a look at this.”
“A tower?”
“Not just any tower. The energy readings here are off the charts. It's located right in the middle of a highly advanced city, ancient, possibly billions of years old and yet according to these readings more advanced than anything we've encountered.”
“You said it's in the middle of a city?”
“Yes.”
Tori turned away to speak to the other bridge officers.
“I want more information on the planet and long range scans to map out our surroundings. I don't much care for sitting in the dark.”
“Yes, Captain.”
And so Tori returned to her seat and waited to see what more they could find out about this place.
