In Armor
Out of Armor
Standing at just over six feet tall, Zack is pure muscle. With a rigorous training exercise from the age of seven, his body has been honed to fighting perfection. Despite being pale due to lack of sun, his body carries many scars from his training and active duty. His black hair hangs down to his ears, and his eyes are matching black. When outside his armor, he dresses in casual clothing, with a sweater over his t-shirt and metal pauldrons on his shoulders, the majority of his clothing black, if not then dark. His boots are well worn UNSC issue combat boots in which he keeps a hold out knife tucked away for any occasion. When in his MJOLNIR armor however, he stands at a little over seven feet, all but impossible to see in the shadows. His visor is a darkened silver as opposed to the reflective amber usually seen, and the only thing of note would be the combat knife over his chest.
Special Abilities:
Spartan II Augmentations:
A critical process of Spartan training is the augmentation process. These were a series of bio-chemical and bio-mechanical augmentations to the Spartans body to increase their combat capability and improve their rates of survival. However, more often than not, the Spartan candidates would die from the augmentation process. Without going into great detail, these increased a Spartans speed, strength and reflexes to unprecedented levels. Able to lift three times their body weight, run at around 30mph, and react within 20miliseconds (estimated time). Their visual acuity was also greatly increased, letting them practically see in the dark with no difficulty. All this is augmented by the Spartans MJOLNIR armour, thrusting them far beyond any expectations.
Combat Mastery:
Trained from the age of 7 when they are taken from home, the Spartan candidates are taught all forms of warfare. From UNSC firearms to captured Covenant weapons, as well as hand to hand fighting and martial arts, Spartans are a mastery with any weapon that they can come across in the field.
Weapons:
MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor Mark VII:
Latest and last of the planned MJOLNIR armor systems, the Mark VII has all the advantages of the previous versions and several new modifications. The Mark VII is the lightest of the MJOLNIR armour systems, and the majority of its benefits are seen in the Mark VI armor. In addition to these, it has the capability for Atmospheric Insertion, similar to the ODST drop pods. While possible in the older variants, fatalities were often the outcome. It also comes with Slipspace de-insertion capability, active AI Transfer, limited molding of the energy shield to provide more protection to other areas, and the ability to passive upgrade itself while the wearer is in standby or cryo sleep. Magnetics on the boots can be toggled on or off to secure the wearer to metallic surfaces, allowing for combat in zero gravity environments, built in purifiers to filter out chemicals and toxins in hazardous environments. Built in bio-foam injectors eliminated the need for medical kits for the Spartan soldiers, and the overall design has been slimmed down to provide less grapple points for enemies in close quarters. In addition to all this, the Mark VII, in contrast to the previous variants Olive or Drab, has a black finish to help in stealth missions, and built in stealth field generator. The power source is top of the line fusion-plasma hybrid to prevent a chance of catastrophe should a Spartan need to destroy their armour. Previously it had been a nuclear fission reactor.
MA5D Combat Rifle:
Standard UNSC issue combat rifle. The newest model, the MA5D holds a 32 round magazine and is highly accurate at short to mid-range combat.
M6H Personal Defense Weapon:
Standard issue UNSC sidearm. With an eight round magazine, the M6H is mostly a last resorts weapon. As the current model, it comes with a smart linked scope for accuracy at close to mid-range.
Sniper Rifle System 99-S5 Anti-Material Rifle:
The latest UNSC Sniper Rifle, it holds four rounds in the magazine with high accuracy at long range. Powerful enough to punch through energy shielding and high density armour, it’s a preferred choice of long range weapons.
M45D Tactical Shotgun:
Latest of the UNSC Shotguns, the M45D holds a six round magazine, effective only at close range however.
Combat Knife:
The UNSC's multi-purpose combat knife has a 20 centimetres (7.9 in) blade made of high carbon steel, an anti-flash non-reflective titanium carbide coating, edge coated for corrosion and rust resistance and is 43.3 centimetres (1 ft 5.0 in) when sheathed
History:
Born on Reach in 2533, Zack was an average child. He never tried to stand out amongst his peers, doing just enough to get through his school work, though all his teachers claimed him capable of so much more. One person agreed with them, and it was her that mattered. When he turned seven, he received a visit from Dr Halsey, who worked with the UNSC. He’d heard about the war going on, but had never paid it any attention. His parents had fled to Reach before he was born and he’d never known the rest of his family. When he met her, she offered him something he wanted more than anything though. The chance to protect people. Shortly after that Dr Halsey’s team took Zack from his home, replacing him with a clone so his parents wouldn’t know the difference, and took him to begin his training.
For seven long years he labored through his training with his teammates. During it all, he underwent tough, oft times brutal, physical training and advanced education in math, science, military tactics and so on. At the age of fourteen, along with the rest of the Spartan candidates, he underwent the augmentation process. Zack was one of the lucky few to survive the ordeal relatively unscathed. Many more were what was known as “wash-outs,” those that didn’t survive, or come through whole. He spent the next few years training to adjust to the changes in his body, learning to fight without hurting himself and coordinate properly with his teammates once again. At sixteen he was put into active field duty, sent out to deal with rebels in the Outer Colonies while the UNSC at large dealt with the covenant threat.
When he was nineteen however, things changed. The covenant had found Reach, and he was called home to fight for every inch of ground they wanted to take. However, taken unaware by the covenant attack that deep into UNSC territory, it was a losing battle. They gave as good as they got, but in the end, Reach was lost, and the covenant glassed the planet from orbit. It was there on the surface as the orbital plasma bombardments began that Zack was lost to his world and the UNSC. The last thing he remembered seeing was the plasma coming down, then darkness. When he woke, he found himself in a strange land, in the middle of a new nightmare. Demonic hordes crashing against an army that he had no knowledge of. He’d woken in the midst of the battle at Kari.
