His eyes slowly fluttered open, to be met with the usual darkness of his resting place...though there was a strange feeling to it. As he slowly pushed the lid of his coffin open, he could tell more clearly the change; his resting place had been disturbed during his rest. It was not where he had lain it to rest. He let out a heavy sigh as he roused himself fully, leaping out of the coffin with a graveful rolling flip over the side. He landed silently and gracefully on his feet, in the barest of crouches. A light wave of his hand and his coffin would creak shut and vanish in a diffusion of blue and silver lights, which swirled about him and into the locket about his neck.
And then he would slowly pace forward down the single hallway before him. In mere moments it ascended a flight of stairs to a wide chamber, with a massive gate leading out to what seemed to be....a field of battle of some sort. He slowed his pace yet further, narrowing his eyes in contempt. He detested fighting without need....and this was looking to involve just that. He folded his arms behind his back as he quickened his pace, stepping out of the gate and into the watery light of a day that was just breaking.
It was, as he had predicted, an arena of some sort. Behind him, the gate creaked downward and ground into the earth with such a force the ground trembled. The most fascinating part was that after a handful of moments, the gate shimmered and melted away, leaving only a blank stretch of wall. Quirking an eyebrow curiously, the count stared for a moment, his gaze roving over the wall, before he shrugged dismissively and turned back to face before him. He was no fair judge of distance, but the arena seemed to be at least a mile in radial measuring. A quick glance told him it was of a perfect circular shape.
A two-mile wide enclosure....joyous.
Looking ahead, he could spy in the distance what he could only assume to be his foe in this foolish contest, or whatever it was to be. He quickened his pace, and in a matter of steps, vanished in a whirling of dust. He came to a halt again in the center of the arena amidst another cloud of dust, his robes whirling about him with the suddenness of his halt. And then he would wait for the other contender in this....event to near.

From across the vast battlefield, Emearus' opponent approached. A towering figure garbed entirely in menacing azure armour soared across the expanse on a narrow disc of condensed energy that glowed blue. The man himself was unmoving, a slightly tattered cape billowing behind him and his arms crossed over his chest.
As the armoured hulk crossed the final short distance, he hopped from his surfing disc of energy and thudded to the ground, the platform fading from being as he straightened up and continued on foot. The echoes of his heavy, metallic footfalls seemed amplified to nigh-thunderous volumes in the unnatural acoustics of the arena.
As he approached, he extended his right hand out to his side, gave a casual swipe of his fingers - and tore a hole in reality itself. His deliberate gait not slowing, he reached into that hole, pulling from within it a massive, glowing sword, its edge rough and jagged. The tear closed behind the weapon as its master hefted it onto his shoulder.
"So I'm not alone after all," Demetrios rasped irritably. "I imagine whatever put us here won't allow both of us to leave."

As the massive armored figure neaed, Emearus lifted his chin a fraction of an inch, his head jerking back in mild surprise. This was unexpected...as was the amount of power he could sense burning within the figure. Its display of movement and drawing its weapon were both impressive enough in their execution. And as the man spoke up, for man he was, Emearus could only sigh in response. "As much of a bother as it is....I suppose not."
His right arm slowly uncurled from behind his back, reaching out to one side, palm down. In a flash of blue light, a burst of silvery energy erupted from the earth and leapt into his hand. A single swipe and the substance exploded away, leaving a blade in its place, held easily at his side. His left arm remained folded behind his back as he did all of this, and remained thus even as he turned his gaze back to his foe. "Let us be done with this as quick as we may then, shall we?"

"Yes..." Demetrios wasted little time. He took a few more long strides forward, Diabolus angling downward and his weapon arm tensing slightly beneath the fearsome armour. His aura flared up, its density and strength spiking suddenly.
"Let's."
With that, the Ajerian exploded into life, rushing forward at his foe and leading in with a wide upward swing of his mighty blade. The tip dragged across the sandy ground, kicking up chunks of rock and a cloud of dust to assault the vampire and disguise his approach. Quickly stepping around this opening, the Dread Seraph followed up with a fierce diagonal swing of his massive sword from the right, aimed at Emearus' right clavicle and intending to cleave through to his opposite hip.

The only response given by the vampire in response to Demetrios readied himself for his launch into combat was a slight narrowing of his eyes, his gaze assuming a steel-shod cast as opposed to its lazy, tired cast from but a moment before. The air about him seemed to grow heavy and shrouded as the Ajerian neared, and as he struck the first slash, Emearus sprang aside like a bol of lightning, seeming nearly to teleport, leaving the first blow to launch its dusty payload at empty air.
The second strike was met with a counterblow. The movement of his arm seemed to carry the bare minimum of force that would be needed to signify it was indeed meant to block. But as the blades met, the force that was imparted was enough to cleave a mountain in two, producing a powerful shockwave from the collision.

The mighty shockwave kicked up a great cloud of dust that would've obscured the combatants from the view of any observers, but Demetrios stood firm and unmoved, as if he hadn't felt the blow's force at all. His colossal blade pushed against his foe's for a split-second before he dragged it upwards, a quick jab into the air causing Emearus' blade to be raked up along with it.
In the same movement, the Dread Seraph took a great stride forward into his foe's range. His sword retreated a foot or so as he stepped into a left turn to drive his elbow down into his opponent's chest, with a brutal force that would crush his sternum and ribs inward if the blow struck home.

Emearus quirked an eyebrow at how easily his foe stood firm against such a mighty blow. Sigh...this might yet require him to actually call upon some of his deeper power. He put up no resistance as his blade was raked up through the air and knocked well clear of any attempt it might have had to be of use. He was quick, yes, but not so quick as to respond to a foe so quick as this one without resorting to greater effort than he cared to without cause.
AS the elbow came in, it smashed into his chest unopposed, and the force of it sent him sliding back several meters along the ground. His posture remained unchanged, right down to his sword arm still being in the air where it was knocked aside, even with the gaping indentation in his chest where the Ajerian's elbow had crushed nearly his entire ribcage into bloody powder. The crimson liquid dripped down the regal robes for a handful of moments, before it healed over within the space of an eyeblink.
His only response was a flick of his wrist, causing the blade in his hand to be launched like a literal missile, glowing with an aura of flickering blue and white flame. Whether or not it connected, it would impact with devastating force, producing a catastrophic explosion of raw magical energy, as well as gouging a massive gash in the earth that was likely to be several hundred meters long.
