History:
Every generation has its stories. The legends that hide within the pasts of those that came before. Some stories hold hope and faith for the future; others are full of hate and poison, dark secrets never meant to be revealed. but then there are those that are a mixture of both- the amounts depending on who you ask. Such is the tale of one young lady. One could consider her a bright spark in a past of morbid contempt. But like most tales, her story begins well before she is even a thought within her mother’s mind. In fact, it starts over 137 years ago within the Tokugawa era of Japan, where her future is being laid out before her in stone.
On March seventh in the year 1995 A.D. a little girl was born to two proud parents, Melany Kaumpkof. Nothing remarkably out of the ordinary about her birth- other than the miracle of life itself of course. She had the life that anyone would expect for someone who lived in the USA. She went to school made a few friends through her family that would stay with her for her entire adolescence and on into her teens, she went to school, excelled in sports, even at a young age. As she grew, she began to have a love for the martial arts and spent most of her pre-teen years practising her arts. Her teacher, a man by the name of Okina Kagaguri, the Japanese born owner of a local restaurant, spent hour after hour with the girl teaching her long dead arts that had been passed down through the years by his family and from families long before. Not only was he her teacher, but also her guiding voice of reason when she couldn’t go to her family. Over all, she had a fairly standard childhood.
-Three years later[/u]
Melany’s well aimed kick ended up not only knocking the heavy metal door open, but also snapped it’s metal hinges in half causing the door to go flying into the center of the room with a spectacular bang. The screeching of the metal on stone as it slid to a stop made her grit her teeth painfully. She shook her head to stop the ringing in her ears and stepped into the high vaulted room. The stone walls held so signs of life as she scanned them- no weeds or vines, no water dripping from the cracks, not even a speck of mildew coated the tomb.
In the center of the room, a stone slate held up by four stone legs. And upon it- a skeleton. A bleached and tattered skeleton barely covered by the rags that draped over its frame. a few pieces of hardened flesh hung from the thin bones of its ribs, lending it a rather sorrowful appearance. A very simple yet effective solution to having carried hundreds of tons of stone over six hundred feet into the earth’s surface: put him on a table. This man may have been a homicidal killer, but even he deserved a better resting place. Especially for a man such as this- Oda Nobunaga. She sighed to herself and cautiously edged into the room.
Too many times had she entered tombs like this to get one object or another only to trigger some trap. Thank goodness she had gotten better at seeing them before she tripped them. Melany returned her focus on the task at hand and approached the table, silently apologizing for what she had to do next. She took a lighter out of her pocket along with a small bag. It contained a swatch of cloth that had been soaked in a flammable liquid. Carefully, she slipped the cloth inside the ribs of the skeleton and struck the starter of the lighter.
It sparked and caught the cloth on fire, flames quickly enveloped the corpse but suddenly it sprung to life and regenerated into an ancient threat. A demon general who ruled over Japan long ago, Oda Nobunaga...
He sprang to life, materializing his weapon and attacking Mel, Mel on the other hand dropped right into a Battojutsu stance and quickly unleashed her sheathed blade just in time to stop Nobunaga’s slash. In that instant... they were no longer in the tomb. They were in some back alley street, as if they had been teleported there...
This didn’t stop her attacker and he began to strike with a vicious assault of his sword. She managed to weave her thin frame around most of his attacks, but there was a reason that Oda was so feared. She kept her blade in steady pace with his as they swung. Though her expression showed nothing, her mind was racing. What had just happened? How did he return to life?! And where were they? She never stopped her blocks but made one fatal mistake.... This was no ordinary man. She had fought and won against countless enemies, but none of them had had half of the skill that Oda had.
She parried a particularly strong sideswipe and ran her blade down his, aiming the tip straight at his bony chest. She grunted as the hit struck home, but was alerted to a sharp pain on the top of her shoulder. Oda had caught her. Luckily the hit Was slowed a bit by the sheer fact that her arm was in the way of the strike being full, but it was enough to slice through the muscle of her shoulder, rendering her left arm useless and sending blood gushing down her side. The pain made her flinch but she pulled back, taking her katana with her. Oda didn’t wait and Melany found herself pinned to the alley wall with a steel blade through her torso. Oda twisted the blade roughly and shoved the blade farther into her abdomen.
She ignored it as best as she could and lifted her foot, planting it firmly in his chest. She wasn’t going to die and leave him living! She had too many people that would be put in danger if she did. She ignored the searing pain as blood flowed from her stomach and back in streams. She dropped one leg back, feeling her strength leaving. She had to hurry before... She shut her brain up and let her hands talk for her. With one last effort, she twisted her front foot just a bit and let out a roar that shook the very air around the pair. At that moment, a voice boomed in her head alongside hers and she could feel the hands of her grandfather wrap around hers, lending her his strength.
She became renewed as the spirit of her ancestor, Kenshin Himura was now by her side, aiding her in this fight. She resheathed her sword, her eyes glowing a familiar yellow twinge as she began running at Nobunaga. Nobunaga came in with a stab which was parried to the left by Melany lifting and blocking with her sheath which was followed by a god-speed battojutsu strike which was unfortunately countered by Nobunaga using his swing’s momentum to swing around and block her attack. He then proceeded to kick her in her wound with enough force to drop her to her knees, before trying to behead her.
Melany rolled out of the way before he could however Nobunaga’s sword still dug deeply into her back and threw blood up against the walls of the alley. In that instant she could feel she was done for, blood was bubbling up from that wound, and it was deep... deep enough to sever her spinal column and paralyze her from the waist down. Nobunaga kicked her over onto her back pressing his boot hard on to her gut in order to pin her before he raised his blade and shot it down to pierce it through her heart. No, it would not end here- she wouldn’t let it. She couldn’t... But deep in her heart, she knew she was dead. She was too weak to even try and struggle and she had lost so much blood that she was beginning to black out. But like her ancestor, she would die in honor, not cowardice. Protect my family... All of you. She sent her last thought to the spirits that guarded over them. She looked Nobunaga straight in the eyes with her own glossed-over ones as the blade came down upon her breast.
But before it made complete contact, there was a deafening bang, Nobunaga’s sword clattered to the concrete and he slumped over dead, and began to burn away into ash. The last visions that crossed her fading vision was that of a silver haired male walking up on her, his voice a dull muted sound before her vision blacked out...
An Hour Later
She awoke in a bed that wasn’t hers in a darkened room with that same man sitting a bit out of the way, looking out of a raindrop covered window.
