Evanthe pushed back her long blonde tresses from the nape of her neck, trying to dispel some of the heat. Salis was already far ahead of her, almost to the top of the 'Little Hill' as he said. To Evanthe, it was more of fair sized mountain. Salis turned around and noticed her dawdling,
"DĂ©pĂȘchez-vous Evanthe. Si un vieux marin comme moi peut le faire, si vous le pouvez! Hurry Evanthe, if an old sailor like me can do it, so can you!" he said in her old language. She didn't answer him, slightly upset at his mockery. She did pick up her pace, however, and quickly beat him to the top of the 'hill'. She let out a gasp at the small town nestled between trees and mountains. This was, surprisingly, the first settlement she had ever seen. Nymphs usually lived in their trees or just outside, preferring mother nature to provide their homes.
"C'est beau! It's beautiful!" she whispered, feet frozen to the ground. She felt Salis's worn brown hand on her shoulder, "Yes, it is." he said slowly in foreign speak, as if she had never speaken a word of it in her life. "Let us go." she cried triumphantly, proud of her linguistic skills.
On the way down the mountain path she was much faster, so much faster that Salis had to occasionally grab her arm to keep her from toppling down the mountain path. As they reached the bottom, he stopped her. "Lookie here, sweetheart. I promised your parents I would bring you here, which I did. I have a very tight shipping schedule and I have to get agoing." He mumbled quickly, not meeting her in the eye. " So you leaving me?" She asked labouriosly. He nodded once and scrambled up the hill, leaving her gaping at him. Tree Cutter she thought venomously at him. She was still to polite to say it out loud.
She stepped into the town, with absoulutely no idea what to do.
