"'ey, is Chloe home?" Argus waved at the guards standing at the entrance to the fortress, "Need to see her."
"Who are you?" The guard to the left replied in a scruffy voice. Like clockwork, they crossed their axes at the entrance to prevent his passage. Argus gave him a "you've-got-to-be-kidding-me" look and pointed at his hair.
"Does this really make me look so different? I'm Argus. You know. Argus? The guy who had the purple hair."
"Don't know who that is."
He snorted, narrowed his eyes to slits, and replied: "I don't think your queen would be happy to know that I was denied passage. You either draw back your weapons and let me in, or I'll make sure she's informed..."
The two glanced at each other, and withdrew their weapons to let him in. Argus gave them sickly sweet smiles, and briskly walked past them. He'll make sure they pay for that later.
"Uh..." Problem is, this place was such a maze for him, and so many other smells masked Chloe's. Would she be in the throne room? The kitchen? The dungeon? "Chloe?" He didn't even want to think of the other location she could possibly be.

Chloe's hair was down, wrapping around her body and reaching her bare feet as she ran a comb through the rich yellow blonde hair that flowed freely around her body. Blue eyes looking straight into the mirror that cast no reflection and only showed the comb moving on its own brushing air. Yet the vampiress still managed to comb it perfectly. As if there was a reflection she could see as plain as day.
The vampire was right where the hybrid had feared she'd be. In her private chambers by the queen sized bed covered in a royal blue mattress. She couldn't stand looking at the red anymore. It was the color of blood and the color of the woman that stood in this room before her. Memories she'd rather not think about on top of everything else running through her head. Dressed in a white dress gown, Chloe put down the brush and walked to the side of her mattress as she spoke out to the exit of her chambers. "In here." And so Argus fears would be confirmed and she had no intention on coming out.

Please don't be in the bed chamber. Please don't be in the bed chamber. Please don't be in the bed chamber. Dammit, she was in the bed chamber. Argus swallowed nervously and cautiously made the journey towards that dreadful location. Instead of entering, he leaned against the wall by the door, and cleared his throat to also let her know of his intention of NOT going inside. Maybe if he brought up a subject that had been scratching at the back of his mind...
"What exactly is going on? I heard there have been outbreaks of wars and attempts to take over."
Now his mind started to wander while waiting for her response. Perhaps the guards didn't recognize him because he decided to show up in casual attire. That had to be it. Or maybe it really was the hair...

"There's no need for formality, Argus. Enter. Make yourself comfortable." Chloe had relived this moment several times, unlike the others it didn't possess her with dull eyes. In fact she quite enjoyed reliving this moment. Saying and doing things differently to see how many reactions she could get from the man. Perhaps control over time did have it perks. Some things were worth reliving over and over again. Never wanting time to move on after that point. "Isafaro attacked Hallowton, Ranko became queen of the underworld and opened the demon seal in Moon Valley and took over, I attempted to secured the tower and was intercepted by Aircano, Kari and Utopia. Hell has taken over Genesis and things will get worse before it gets better. I've already seen it."

"I kinda like being formal, thanks," Argus inched farther away from the door just in case if the vampiress decided to loop her arm around the corner to drag him in. Who knows what she'll do to get him in there? Argus swept his bangs further to the side, tucked loose strands behind his ear, and listened to her explanation of everything. Well, a Sparknotes version, that is.
"Wait, Ranko is queen of the underworld? That's news to me. I guess I spent too much time in Hallowton preparing for the attack."
This was unfortunate and troubling news. If she had that kind of power, what will she do with it? Ranko didn't seem to be the type to just remain in one location, but he could be wrong. Hopefully.

"Do you think I'd be unable to contain myself? That the moment you cross over that threshold our bodies will be intertwined with no escape? What kind of a woman do you take me for?" He would have the no escape part down right. Chloe wouldn't approach him nor try to pull him into the room. She would instead push him into the chambers. A second Chloe appeared behind Argus and pushed him into the bedroom before closing the door and locking it from the outside. "Yeah. I can do that now." She said noting the duplicate of herself as she walked over to Argus, now just a few feet away from him. "Don't try for the balcony you never make it."

"It's not that, it's--AAHH!" Argus' sharp scream of terror may have woken the whole castle with how it reverberated throughout the halls, but at least his pride was preserved in one way: it didn't sound like a girl. The poor hybrid grasped at his chest from the sudden shot of adrenaline that surged through his body. How did she do that?! Why didn't he expect something like that?
"Yeah. I can do that now."
There were two of her. There. Were. Two. Of. Her. The images that were popping into his head only made him even more nervous.
"What?! How?!" The poor guy's voice cracked.
"Don't try for the balcony you never make it."
Oh, fuck me.
He was expecting a rape. Or something that would make him uncomfortable. But mostly rape.

"Snuff it." Chloe took Argus by the hand and led him to the one thing in the room more terrifying to him than hell itself. Her mattress. She sat down on the right of the bed and made a point of using her superhuman strength to pull Argus down to the spot next to her. Her eyes softening as she wrapped her hand around his and looked him in the eye. "I missed you." Her words were sincere. He'd know that it wasn't Chloe the Empress or Chloe the Vampire talking to him. It was Chloe the woman. "I trust by now you know my feelings for you. If not..." Chloe brushed the hair away from her neck and gave him a clear shot at it. "I invite you to learn."

"I missed you."
"I-I-I...uh...yeah it's been a while, hasn't it?" Argus gave her a nervous smile. He didn't like where this was going.
"I trust by now you know my feelings for you. If not..."
Oh, crap.
"I invite you to learn."
"Chloe, I...look, things are complicated. I mean..." Argus frowned, "I could easily see that you do, but you need to understand something."
He reached into his pocket, pulled out a leather wallet, unfolded it, and showed a picture of him with someone that could have been Raiza. He was giving the camera a goofy smile in front of a remodeled Devil May Cry while Raiza held her usual look of indifference. The photo was worn, probably from him holding it and staring at it for hours on end while reminiscing over the better days. Dante's female doppleganger was in it as well, but decided to photobomb it by flipping both of them off.
"Chloe, I know this isn't something you would want to hear, but I have to be honest. I haven't moved on from Raiza. I haven't been in a true state of peace since I don't know what became of her. I can't let go until I know of what became of her."

This was her least favorite part of the evening. Every time she looked at that picture. The goofy smile of Argus, the indifference of Raiza and the douchebaggery of the female Dante. It broke her heart into a thousand pieces to know no matter what she did she would never make the hybrid feel as happy as he did in that moment. That the best she could ever get was artificial happiness. Tears started to fall freely down her cheeks as she looked at him as if she was broken. Because she was.
"Raiza betrayed you." The Empress said simply as she already knew the events of Raiza's betrayal. It was no different from Ranka's just with the gender roles reversed. "She betrayed everything you stood for. Yet if she was to come through that door, if she was to make eye contact with you, in less than an instant, I would watch you walk out that door and leave me forever." Argus would feel Chloe's grip on his hand tighten, threatening to crush it with her strength. She didn't mean to hurt him, at least no more than he didn't intend to hurt her, Chloe just wanted to make him hurt like she did. To share in her pain. It was only fair after all, wasn't it?
"Why?" Chloe asked this question a thousand times, and heard the answer a thousand times, and each time she always asked it. It was a cycle she couldn't break even if she wanted to. It was enough to send her off the edge just as the Ghost of Legion had warned her and still she did it. Foolish, foolish girl. "What does she have that I do not? What can she give you that I cannot? I don't understand how you can still love her after what she did to you."

"Chloe..." He feared this would happen but he couldn't just ignore the fact that his heart wasn't in this. It would have been worse if he just made her believe he cared like that only to find out it was a lie. "Chloe it's because, if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have the strength to carry on. Yes, her betrayal was bitter, but she did it to make me realize that I also had to rely on myself."
Argus's shoulders fell when he saw her crying. The guy couldn't stand to see a woman cry, especially one like Chloe, "Chloe, the last words she ever heard from me were 'I hate you'. I couldn't stomach that. I have to at lea--OUCH!" Chloe's hard grip had begun to break his fingers one by one. High pain tolerance or not, that always hurts. He made his hand intangible and slipped it away so it could heal. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to do that, but I can't just lie to you. It would have been wrong."

"Wrong..." There was a hint of anger in her voice as she didn't even look in Argus' direction anymore. Her eyes fixed on the sheets between them as the tears stopped shedding. "What purpose does mortality serve among monsters like us?" While she spoke to the hybrid the demon blade Kasul lifted itself up in the air, a faint almost unseenable red glow masking the blade as it hovered a few feet behind Argus' head, merely stalking him. Waiting for Chloe to say the word as she lifted up her head to look at Argus. "Why shouldn't we just take what we want?"

"Because even monsters have their code. A set of morals. And I have such a list." His looked to Kasul, then back to Chloe, "So if you want to fall into the stereotype, that is your choice. I, for one, don't want to be like my father who was a true monster." Argus growled. "Believe it or not, your actions always return to bite you. For every evil thing you do, it is returned to you. The more you act like a monster, the more you'll be treated like one."

"I became a monster the night my blood mixed with another." The handle of the demonic blade behind Argus came flying into Chloe's hand and she stood up on the mattress, swinging her blade diagonally downward for Argus' head. "The night I was plagued by the same images that has haunted you for four years!"

The clang of swords greeted Chloe's ears instead of the rendering of flesh. Argus held Kasul up from his head with Revelation, and the entire time, his silver eyes bore into hers. "I thought you were stronger than this. Has all the power of this sword gone to your head?" The hybrid slid his sword up in one, fluid motion to move Kasul away, and he took a leap back. "You sure don't take rejection well. And I thought I was the dramatic one."
