History: Anthony Stark is the son of legendary innovator and weapons developer Howard Stark, the early parts of his life dealing with the absence of his father. At age four Antony’s brilliant and unique mind would begin turning heads as he made his first circuit board – age six his first engine – age seventeen he graduated summa cum laude from MIT.
He would then lose both his parents in a car accident, leaving his father's life-time friend and colleague, Obadiah Stane in charge until Anthony would take over his father's company, Stark Industries, and ushered in a new era for his father's legacy. With smarter weapons, advanced robotics, and satellite targeting he served America well in her wars but that would all change during his trip behind enemy lines in Afghanistan.
After showing off his latest weapon, the Jericho, he was captured by a terrorist group who attempted to force him to build a Jericho of their own. Instead he used that time to build an armored power suit and an miniature arc reactor to keep himself alive. Using the suit he made his escape and destroyed the stock of weapons they had from Stark Industries. The escape attempt saw the death of Dr. Yinsen, the man who saved his life after he was badly injured by shrapnel during the attack on the convey he was in prior to his capture, and the armor abandoned as he traveled for some time before being spotted by military helicopters and taken back home to America where what he wanted more than anything was a cheese burger.
Tony Stark announced that Stark Industries would no longer be creating weapons and instead Tony focused on clean energy. This however did not sit well with both Obadiah Stane and the board of directors, the latter of which blocked his decision. Tony went on to building a better model of the armored suit he created to escape imprisonment by the terrorists, creating the Mark II and then the classic gold and red Mark III which would get it first field test saving the refugees in Afghanistan and later having to outrun two F-22s sent by America.
During continued work on his suit Tony discovered that Stane has been working both sides of the conflict in weapons dealing. He sent his assistant Virginia "Pepper" Potts to hack into Stark's mainframe while Stane stunned him with a device that induced temporary paralysis and took his arc reactor to power the suit he has been working on. With the help of his A. I JARVIS, Tony was able to grab the old arc reactor and go after Stane, defeating him when the full-sized arc reactor that powered the lab was deliberately overloaded, under Stark's instruction.
Later at a press conference Tony would reveal his identity as Iron Man to the world and be greeted back at home by a man named Nick Fury of SHIELD (he Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division) who told him about the Avenger Initiative.
It was palladium that kept his reactor running, unfortunately palladium was continuously eroded by the neutron bombardment, and released deadly poisons into his body. Tony Stark was dying. His demise growing closer he would also have to deal with Ivan Vanko, the son of his father's partner in building the original arc reactor, who attacked him at the Monaco Grand Prix but later defeated by Tony when he was given his portable armored suit the Mark V.
At a party he threw his self-destructive tendencies would come to the surface as he donned the Iron Man suit and used its weapons to entertain his guests. His friend James Rhodes saw the display, took the Mark II Prototype and confronted Tony in what was Iron Man versus Iron Man before taking the suit and telling Tony he was no longer worthy of wearing it.
Tony was approached by Nick Fury a second time, this time with his spy Natasha Romanoff who administered a temporary barrier to his palladium poisoning, before Nick Fury sent him on the path to creating a new element that would fit his needs and utilize its power into a brand new suit.
His next big adventure would be dealing with his arch rival Justin Hammer, who upstaged Stark Industries at the Stark Expo. Hammer had arranged the escape of Ivan Vanko and used him to engineer new technology to rival Stark's Iron Man suits. Stark was disturbed to learn that Hammer created a small army of drones powered by arc reactors, but shocked when James Rhodes in the fully armed MK II suit lost control of it. Vanko had double-crossed Hammer and was using the drones and Rhodes' War Machine armor in an attempt on Stark's life. He wasn't successful.
Stark escaped from the Expo, leading the drones and his helpless friend on a deadly chase. Eventually, outside assistance from Natasha Romanoff allowed Rhodes to regain control and together the two were able to fight off the drones, and later Vanko in an armored suit of his own. With his illness corrected, a new Iron Man armor in hand, and coming out once again on top, Tony returned to the life he enjoyed, acting as a consultant to Nick Fury's Avenger Initiative.
Then along came a god.
Tony Stark would be call to action again when Loki Laufeyson, god of mischief, would invade earth leading to Nick Fury to assemble a team to counteract them. That team would be called the Avengers and it would consist of Natasha Romanoff, Hawkeye, fellow scientist Bruce Banner, Thor and Captain America. Together they were successful in stopping Loki's invasion of earth before going their separate ways. One night alone at Stark's Towers a mysterious portal would open and drag Tony Stark down through it. Using the special bracelets on his wrists he summoned the Mark VII armor to him as he was taken through the portal and transported to Genesis.
