So, the latest trend I'm noticing is that just about anyone sees any NPC target as cannon fodder. This goes from the common foot soldier all the way to full high tech jets and back down to highly armored targets. And some people actually wonder why in the plot threads we made things seem impossible.
Lets face the truth though. Common foot soldiers, the low ranked demons that make up most of the netherrealms main force, the guard posted up in front of the local freckle bitches, they're all cannon fodder, yeah. There's so much of them to go around to everyone else take them out as you please.
But this isn't what I'm seeing. What I'm seeing is something challenging get introduced in one post, and the next post by someone else they have not only destroyed it, but three like it, and not just that, but gave no say so to the person who introduced it.
For instance: The War thread in Hallowton, the VTOL Aircraft was introduced in what would of been a short dog fight with Yuna and Sparda in the air. However, instead Sparda chose to destroy all three in his next post, not knowing much other than they fired hail storm missiles and high power lasers. This took away from Yuna's experience and made a very logical and challenging obstacle pointless. I'll still give him points for stylishly killing them.
Another example would be the introduction of the Novalith Cannon Platform in the threads New in Town Finale and Blue. You'll notice that in New in Town, Gabe himself takes the forces seriously, his weapons, his familiars, his darkness unable to do much damage against the foes. Gabriel has shown his ability in the last 3 New in Town threads to be able to maul through some of the toughest obstacles, but here he has trouble. Both Garrus and Kragen are on their toes at every turn even being pinned down.
In Blue, Mari begins by slaughtering the common foot soldier, then brings the Platform into effect. In one post by Goku Jr. He basically drops 3 of the Special Forces, highly armored, and extremely tactical unit, as if they were any other troop. Likewise, Ed smashes the remaining between two pillars. I'll give both points for taking damage and still having their characters react according to the situation, however they thinned the numbers so quickly that it diminished the quality of the story being told.
However, Mari takes the situation serious, while OOC Tom knows what the unit is capable of, IC Mari has never faced them and goes into it unknown and finds herself having a bit of trouble.
These troops are mutated to physical perfection. They are mindless and work in a team with one logical and reasonable leader fueling the teams movements making the unit move without fault. They wear Highly Dense armor that can't be penetrated easily.
Likewise, the VTOL aircraft is highly advanced and can keep a constant Mach 10 speed never slowing giving it the ability to outlast any natural thing chasing it. The pilots for these craft have the best tech inside and outside the aircraft to handle most situations. Are they perfect? No.
Both units are game changers to some degree. They give a challenge. The troops themselves feel no pain and can shrug off explosives, bullets, impacts, the likes. In the War thread I planned far ahead, placing the Strait Jacket unit in the area just in case, and forcing two units to move toward the keep, having them both work tactically. Basically it was an attempt to back up any plan dare it go wrong.
This isn't a knock on any of these people. This is actually to help people understand and enjoy roleplay a bit better and to discuss. These aren't the only people doing this either, these are just the best examples I've seen. Because I myself slip up and get carried away sometimes as I did in the first New in Town thread before I decided to slow my pace and take it one step at a time.
Point being, this isn't really a rant or anything like that, it's more or less an attempt to raise awareness. Usually when someone is driving a plot they'll give you some freedom, but that freedom runs rather thin when the person driving the plot sends a massive demon after a person and the next post is the person hopping across the demon and putting it down before the plot driver has a chance to do anything with it.
This is why for every action done there is a consequence in recent threads. That's fine, you want to blow up all the aircraft in the area in one go? Then we're going to acknowledge it by taking out an orphanage and playing Trolololol over the speakers. You've decided to massacre the entire front line of my demon army? That's alright, they'll be back in like a minute anyways stronger than last time.
I understand your characters lore and history say they have killed entire armies. However, I'm sure it took a while. You must also think realistic too. The better the technology the harder it will be to fight. Yes Sparda has taken down entire armies with his sword, well, we kind have guns now, and special units to handle things like demons.
And yes I understand you are a Super Saiyan and logically in the Dragon Ball universe you would be extremely powerful with a power level over 9000, but everything comes to scale in a reality where Pokemon, Devil May Cry, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Vampires, Werewolves, etc. etc. etc. comes into place.
So, discuss your views, to me this is kind of getting something off my chest while pointing out an obvious roleplay habit/fault I'm noticing lately. So please, ask questions, share your feelings, express your views. If you want to bitch me out, PM me, I'm always up for a good laugh.
