Name: Demetrios
Aliases: Dread Seraph, Shadow of Darkbroode
Age: 8165 (combined)
Gender: Male
Species: Demon w/ Ajerian soul
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Canon or Original: Original
Date of Birth: N/A
Place of Birth: N/A
Physical Appearance: Standing at 6’2 and weighing in at a good 250lbs, Demetrios cuts a frightening figure even out of his armour. His binding has turned his once black hair pure silver, his skin deathly pale, but his eyes glow with the same unnatural azure luminescence. His left arm is wreathed in runic markings aflame with the same glow of light; the sign of his binding.
Special Abilities:
Weapons: Diabolus: Formerly known as Dreadtalon, Demetrios’ terrifying sword was transformed and rechristened upon his binding. It serves as a conduit for his magical might and a nigh-unstoppable tool in his capable hands.
History: It is often said that the strongest demons are not born into this world, but that they simply… are. Such was the case with Demetrios; his origins a mystery even to him, he wandered the demon realm with no memory of his birth or creation. As far as he has ever been aware, he simply awoke from surreal, all-consuming darkness exactly as he was. What was definitely unlike any other such demon, whose strength would grow with age and experience, was the fact that he had come to being with such power at his disposal as would befit a ruler of the underworld. He had not questioned it often, merely glad that he had such enormous power at his fingertips that only the most foolhardy of demons crossed him, but he certainly found it strange. It was as if he had already lived for millennia, but had no memory of a past life.
To an extent, it explained the dreams.
The sparse hours he committed to sleep were haunted by inexplicable visions. There were three which were the most common; a three-eyed angel seated upon a throne of marble; a winged creature with a body constructed of hellfire; and a horned demon who wielded a great curved sword against the armies of a demonic king. As often as not, Demetrios was unable to remember his visions upon waking, and he found himself feeling as if those he could recall should be somehow familiar… Throughout the centuries he spent pondering these same visions, the only theory he could posit was that these dreams were strange memories of a past life; this explained how he came to being with the entirety of his ungodly powers, but nothing else. Who was this horned demon who dared to stand alone against what seemed like the whole demon world? And what exactly was the three-eyed deity he opposed? Demetrios could think of only two entities which could have existed in the time of this demonic knight; the Abyss and the Ajerians.
And since he didn’t think all that much of the Abyss and their tireless warmongering except to see them as a challenge beyond anything that had come before him in the past, the lone demon resolved instead to learn what he could from the Ajerians and their young leader. Moving with haste and silence, Demetrios slipped through the Entrance Wound into the human realm and spent a few days gathering information until he could reliably track down the Ajerians and their campaign against the interminable hordes of the Abyss. The demon fell in with the armies of the Judgement; rallied beneath the human rebel, Cyris Darkbroode, who had bound to the pure Ajerian elite Edion, they marched against the Legion of Abyss. Though the Keeper had fallen to Arix Himura, the Shackled Lord survived, and led his hordes personally with Grand Duke Berith now at his right hand.
It was during the siege of Jericho, broken and almost overrun by the Abyss, that Demetrios first did battle alongside the Judgement – and he had already garnered some attention. From around the front lines, he was being watched by one particular Judgement, who fought with spellcraft rather than a blade; Asmodion, a recently resurrected sorcerer who had spent millennia restoring and refining the skills he had commanded in his past Ajerian life. The two were polar opposites, gargantuan physical strength and blade skill versus nigh-godly magical power, and the contrast made them a powerful duo when they worked together. The campaign against the Abyss was an intense and brutal one, and the demon and Judgement shone as a pair. Their efforts earned them both nicknames amongst their allies; Demetrios, the fearsome demonic warrior, standing shoulder to shoulder with the mightiest Judgement, came to be known as the Dread Seraph; and Asmodion, forever in the shadows behind Cyris’ right hand, lending her his silent wisdom and unsung power from beneath the revered heights of her generals, became the Shadow of Darkbroode.
The war would come to a head at the heart of the Dead City, where the final battle took place. With Cyris falling in battle, Amon being obliterated by the nosferatu Alucard, and the legendary Arix returning to take up leadership of the Judgement armies, Demetrios and Asmodion fought their own battle in the midst of the chaos. Drawn into a pitched duel against the Abyss generals Lilith and Zepar, the two fought bitterly to overcome this pair, infamous for their deadly synergy in combat. They became paired off, Demetrios handily matching Lilith blow for blow; but Asmodion was ill-prepared to deal with Zepar’s immense physicality and skilled swordplay, and was mortally wounded over the course of their frantic face-off.
Zepar was moments from finishing the wounded Ajerian before Demetrios intervened. The Dread Seraph fought like a man possessed to fend off both Lilith and Zepar, barely keeping their onslaught at bay, until the two Abyss warriors were blasted away by a pulse of energy from the dying Judgement.
”It is time,” Asmodion said hauntingly, dragging himself to his feet. ”I shall not be ended here, my friend; you will see to that.” He extended his left hand, his runic tattoos pulsing with cerulean light. ”Take my hand, Demetrios. You will become all that I am. All of my knowledge, skills and powers will be yours. On this day, you will become a true Ajerian… and the Abyss shall know fear.”
Demetrios hesitated for only a moment, knowing Lilith and Zepar would be upon them again in moments. He nodded.
“You and I, Asmodion… We’ve been unstoppable so far. Let us master chaos together for an eternity.”
Steeling himself, he reached out and firmly took Asmodion’s hand…
In the wake of a soul-chilling scream, Lilith and Zepar returned to be met by the sight of a monster unlike anything they had met on the battlefield. His armour shone with dazzling azure light; his terrible sword was wreathed in a black miasma that seemed to rot the very air; and his eyes, aflame with blue light, stared them down balefully. Demetrios and Asmodion had bound together, united in body and soul.
”Round two,” the monster chuckled.
This second bout lasted less than a minute. The Ajerian warrior exploded into action, assailing his two foes with a barrage of precise and devastating Liam Viyan Lay strikes that rent and scarred the earth around him, utterly overwhelming the Abyss officers with his blinding speed and unstoppable strength. In what seemed like a split-second, two of the finest warriors to be found within the Legion of Abyss were torn to pieces by the colossal might of the newly bound Ajerian.
He continued to carve an insatiable swath of destruction through the Abyss ranks, supporting the advance of the resurrected Arix and the ancient Judgement… only to be routed by the emergence of the negative god, Abaddon, who even Arix could not overcome. Their very world unravelling around them, Demetrios was yanked through one of the many dimensional rifts that were torn open by Abaddon’s unimaginable power.
He emerged on the continent of Jherra, in the heart of the besieged town of Moon Valley, with the roars of war all about him. Confused, but unbowed, the Dread Seraph rose to his feet – and was immediately set upon by a mob of demonic soldiers intent upon carving him to pieces. The Ajerian gave but a scowl and a swing of his blade, and the sheer turbulence ripped his attackers limb from limb.
Whoever led this army had made an enemy of him. Big mistake.

His binding has turned his once black hair pure silver, his skin deathly pale, but his eyes glow with the same unnatural azure luminescence. His left arm is wreathed in runic markings aflame with the same glow of light; the sign of his binding.
Special Abilities:
- Superhuman Physicality: Demetrios’ primary asset was the ungodly capability of his physical body. His strength, speed, agility, stamina, resilience and natural healing are countless times greater than those of any human or lesser demon; he can rip great metal plates apart with his bare hands, move with such speed as to appear to be teleporting, withstand otherwise fatal direct attacks with only minor injuries and exert himself at full capacity for days on end without rest. His binding has only strengthened his body further, placing him on par with history’s mightiest beings, be they demon or something else entirely.
- Liam Viyan Lay Mastery: Liam Viyan Lay is an early, almost primitive form of Merjutsu, and though it doesn't compare to its evolved brother, it's still nigh-unmatched in combat. This graceful and ungodly powerful swordplay style of the Ajerians is mastered only by the strongest among them. Demetrios’ binding with Asmodion has granted him the Judgement’s fearsome proficiency with the basic styles. Now, his skills are outmatched only by the most powerful and revered Judgement and Ajerians; the likes of the legendary Arix Himura and his mentors.
- Energy Absorption and Manipulation: Demetrios is capable of absorbing ambient energies from his surroundings, from heat and radiation to the residual energy of slain demons, and utilising it to sustain his body and augment his attacks. When used to keep him going, the excess power hugely accelerates his natural healing and provides an alternate energy source, allowing his body to function in the absence of outside sustenance or with otherwise debilitating injuries. In extreme situations, he doesn’t need to eat, rest, or even breathe; he can subsist entirely on the forces of nature and the suffering of his enemies. When used to strengthen his offence, it wreaks destruction on an unprecedented scale; a simple swing of his sword unleashes turbulence strong enough to tear the ground asunder, and a solid punch creates tremors that can topple whole blocks of buildings.
- Sorcery: First and foremost, Asmodion is a spellcaster, harnessing his power to weave all manner of magics for the purposes of destroying his foes and protecting his allies; and Demetrios has inherited this power in its entirety. The quickest and most direct of his attacks come in the form of simple energy-based projectiles and weapons taking countless shapes. The Judgement also keeps in mind a myriad of more complex and powerful spells. He can increase the power and scale of his spells through such means as reciting basic incantations, expending the power of a soul crystal and casting from focal points such as a pre-prepared magus seal (both of the latter are explained below).
- Soul Absorption: Asmodion powered a good deal of his abilities by absorbing the souls of his fallen enemies, breaking them down into raw supernatural power in the process. The stronger a being and the more recent their death, the more power he gained.
- Storage Dimension: Among the enchantments upon Asmodion’s cloak was a highly sophisticated, unbreakable spell which created a "pocket dimension" within its folds. Only Asmodion could access it, doing so simply by reaching into the inside fabric of the garment as if into a pocket, and within it he could store any number of small objects. His binding with Demetrios has empowered this spell such that it affects the very space around him, and he need only will a stored object into his hand to pull it forth.
- Soul Crystals: As a more long-term solution to the problem of quickly powering complex spells, Demetrios can use the power of recently absorbed souls to synthesise a soul crystal. These small cylindrical crystals, about five centimetres long and one in diameter, are stored within his pocket dimension and used to quickly power a spell as and when needed. They can also be used as surprise weapons, unleashing their power all at once in devastating explosions. Demetrios releases their stored power by snapping them in his hand.
- Magus Seals: Demetrios’ ambush weapon of choice, magus seals are strips of vellum inscribed with complex runes and symbols. They act as focal points which increase the power of his spells when he casts from them. One of his favourite tricks involves luring large groups of enemies into areas with a number of seals scattered around and then casting an attack empowered by all of them to obliterate all his victims at once.
- Elemental Manipulation: Demetrios’ magical prowess gives him control over the greater elements of fire, air, water and earth. As with all of his powers, this elemental control can be strengthened through the channelling of recently absorbed souls and the use of soul crystals; at his strongest, he can create earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis and firestorms capable of engulfing whole cities.
- Animation: By imbuing objects and bodies with absorbed power, Demetrios can animate them as minions to do his bidding. Depending on the power put into the task, he can animate anything from simple corpses and suits of armour to fearsome elementals and enormous scrap metal golems. Animated creatures are empowered by the souls channelled into them, becoming much stronger and more durable than normal.
