Drake returned to the military prison where Meryl was currently being held with the information given to him by Kailix still on his person. The Golden Boy of the Crimson Vulture walked straight ahead after entering the military prison and reached the elevator in the back of the room going up to the second floor where Meryl's cell was. Upon arriving at Meryl's cell door, he ordered the nearby guard to open it and allow him to go inside. Though the guard was hesitant he knew Drake's rep with the army and knew he wasn't somebody you fucked with so he had the door opened and let Drake in closing it soon after.
“I'm back. I have good news and I have bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”

With nothing else to do Meryl spent her time trapped in this cell exercising, staying in shape and keeping her mind cleared from the trial that lied ahead as there were no sense worrying about it. If all else failed Meryl would stick to her story and hope for the best. While that was dangerous when dealing with the likes of General Vulture and his crew, some times that's all you had. Meryl stood at attention when the cell door came open and none other than Drake White entered her cell with the door closed shut behind him. She could only hope for good news but it seemed bad news accompanied the good. "Bad news." Meryl replied. It was best to get it out of the way now.

"Bad news."
“The guy you fought is a VIP making him virtually untouchable in Vulture's book.”
Though he couldn't for the life of him see why.
“The good news is I found your guy and also found data on a piece of technology that allow you to change your appearance. Your defense in the up-coming court case should be simple. If we can convince Vulture and the others hearing your case that someone may have 'impersonated' you to set you up then we should be able to stall long enough for me to find out more on this Kailix fella.”

Virtually untouchable... Great... "What's the good news?" Meryl listened to his good news and while she appreciated everything he was trying to do there was a hole in his plan she couldn't help but poke through. "Drake, why would anyone go through all that trouble to impersonate a Private?"

"Drake, why would anyone go through all that trouble to impersonate a Private?"
“We make it look like a personal vendetta. Apply just enough reasonable doubt into the people hearing your case to stall while I look for more evidence linking this Kailix bastard to last night. It's not perfect but it's the best shot we got.”

"And if that doesn't work?" Meryl stood up from the ground and walked over to Drake after his plan for her defense was explained in full. "Then what?"

"And if that doesn't work? Then what?"
“Then I betray the Crimson Vulture and break you out of here.”
One would automatically think that he was joking, though for the people who knew him, the people who's spent the most amount of time with him, would be able to take one glance into his eyes and see as plain as day that he couldn't be more serious than he was right now. Meryl was one of the people who would be able to see that. One of few.
“But hopefully it won't come down to that.”

Meryl couldn't even utter mock laughter at what Drake said and was glad that none of the guards were close enough to hear it. She also couldn't believe it. It shocked her. All this time Meryl was under the impression that she was little more than a fling to Drake and now he was talking about betraying an army, betraying the Crimson Vulture, who would hunt both of them down to the end of Genesis and have them killed, all for her? It touched her, touched her in ways the silver-haired man couldn't imagine."You're something else..." It was true. Just when she thought she had Drake figured out he goes and throws her a curve ball like this. "But I'm going to have to make you promise not to do it. I won't have you die for my sake."

"You're something else..."
“What? Did you think I'd let you die for a crime you didn't commit? Not my style.”
"But I'm going to have to make you promise not to do it. I won't have you die for my sake."
“Not just for your sake. It's for every Crimson Vulture officer that actually takes pride in their work. Now there's just one more matter of business to intend to... We need to get you a lawyer.”

"Then promise me you won't die." Meryl didn't bother to argue with Drake on his thoughts of betrayal if things fell through with her trial but she would still make him promise not to die nonetheless. Once he set his mind on something there was no talking him out of it but she could be just as stubborn as he at times. There was one thing she couldn't help but snort at however, the lawyer comment. "You serious? Who in their right mind is going to represent me?"

"Then promise me you won't die."
“Cross my heart and hope to die,” he teased. Though choosing the poor choice of words on purpose inside he fully intended on keeping that promise.
"You serious? Who in their right mind is going to represent me?"
“Surely your uncle would know a couple of people that could help us. If not we'll just find someone who knows what they're talking about who isn't in their right mind. Shouldn't be hard genius and madness are often two sides of the same coin. Learned that playing a hologram.”

"Can't you be serious for two minutes?" Meryl sat down on her bed in the cell and simply stared at the floor as Drake talked about her uncle, prompting Meryl to take her eyes off of the floor and back to him. "No. I don't want my uncle involved in any of this. Understand?"

“Why not?”

"It's complicated," replied Meryl who was no longer able to look Drake in the eye. Before being accused of treason and thrown in jail to await trial she had dealt with some personal issues in her family and the last thing she wanted was any of her family members getting involved in all of this. "I just don't want him involved."

“Meryl, this is your ass on the line and quite frankly we need all the help we can get. Now give me one good reason why I shouldn't ask for his help.”
