Time had manage to slide right by him, sneaking on it's toes across the desert before the mighty eye of the sun as if a forest were there to shield it. It had taken hold of the Hanyou, shaping him and shifting him from what he once was. Although the years traveling with his crew had only brung him closer to them all, he couldn't help but feel a sense of longing in the pit of his chest when they were no where around.
Kagome was the worst of it. Last he had seen, she was waving him away with the slightest of her fingers, a bright and cheery smile promising her safe return as she returned to her world. Jealousy tried to sneak a glance into his mind, slipping around the corners and soaking up his emotions like a thick sponge. He didn't like the fact that she had to return - especially the fact that she wanted to return - and every second away from her, knowing she wasn't where he was, in the same world, dug under his skin. It made him a little more than noticeably irritable, it's intentions seeming to hiss sweet nothings into his ear. Where was the time going? He didn't know, but she was taking a long time. Would she stay? He wasn't sure if she would return the deepness of devotion that he had for her.
Plus, he couldn't be sure that she was safe. Over the course of the years, she had gotten progressively better at protecting and defending herself. Still, he knew how weak and vulnerable she truly was, and often times demons did try to hitch a ride to connect with her in her world for the things they desired. It was what they were all after - the fragments of the Jewel shard - but something that only he would, eventually, obtain. The risk behind it was that they would stop at nothing, and effectively he would be left without his beloved Kagome, alone to his wonderings once again.
Kikyou...there was no hope, though she may lure him. No hope of a future, the longingness that first love brought to your heart and that you could never entirely shake away. It left him weak at the knees, with a mix of emotions that he would rather forget than remember - it was simply one of the emotions that he did not, and could not, understand, for lack of will power to see through why it existed, or the other sides to it. He only knew of it's works against him....
He would stay all night, every night, up in the tree on a perched branch if he had to. Even though the tree itself was stripped almost completely bare of it's leaves and foliage, the main branch was still one of the sturdiest things that could be uncovered. He would sit there, his heart longing, golden eyes locked on the well that lay underfoot, as he prepared himself for her return. But as it were, he seemed to notice a week in full, and another or two before he could see a face pop out of the well. It irritated him - silently, he plotted for his own 'return' to the other world. Something most called "modern", but he didn't quite agree with. "Weird, strange, and unnatural" - now, that was more fitting.
