Physical Appearance: Standing at 5'11"with a lean, somewhat lanky build, his languid movements make for an elegant yet simultaneously choppy pattern something between a zombie and a doll - with startling agility in a fight. His normal walking, however, is usually an arrogant, laid back strut akin to a punk who doesn't give a damn. His skin is pale olive, with completely untapped potential for a nice tan. His eyes are a dark black-brown. His hair is auburn and straight, though in a constant mess he styles with anything from toothpaste to actual hair gel to maple syrup. He's been poked fun at as being a "pretty boy", though he doesn't see it.
Kazuo wears black slacks, a black blazer over a white dress shirt, and sneakers that were once gray-blue but have devolved into such a muddy brown color it's nearly impossible to determine what color they originally were.
Personality: Kazuo appears to be little more than a heartless, sadistic sociopath. He's killed animals and neighborhood pets since childhood, and before arriving in this world he massacred 12 of his peers without a second thought and without remorse. He's been shown to pursue a target relentlessly, and with zero hesitation in killing indiscriminately Kazuo may seem like an unstoppable killing machine. However, he does have a great discomfort around cats verging on a phobia and also has a considerable aversion to fire. He exhibits a mild fixation with blood; seeing so much as a small cut makes him want to rip it open, and for this he's had to spend much of his life avoiding blood - so much so that classmates at school had the idea he was squeamish.
Though he loses no sleep from his killings, from time to time Kazuo seems in some way troubled... He can occasionally be glimpsed looking unusually contemplative, and these are almost the only times he's passive enough not to be an immediate threat. Kazuo speaks so little he might as well be mute; even he isn't quite sure as to the reason why, or if he is he doesn't like to acknowledge it. He has trouble grasping emotions along the lines of compassion. The concept confuses him - and since Kazuo's go-to response is killing, he's frequently driven to attack anyone who shows him kindness.
Special Abilities: Kazuo has developed an unusually high pain tolerance to the point where some might suspect he doesn't feel pain at all, stemming from his abusive childhood. However, he does still feel temperature, and as such something like frostbite or a burn would be the closest thing to pain he may get.
Weapons: Kazuo wears a bulletproof vest and keeps a military-like duffel bag filled with weapons - along with snacks and a water bottle. His primary weapon is an Uzi 9mm submachine gun, but he also carries a Colt M1911 and a wakizashi. He is on a constant hunt for weapons and will steal anything worthwhile from defeated opponents, and he is certainly willing to improvise should he find himself without a weapon in a fight. Though he knows no martial arts, his fighting style could be called something like Jeet Kune Do; a flowing style focused on adapting to one's adversary.
History: Kazuo grew up an only child in a rather poor suburb. His mom left when he was six; his father was physically abusive and beat on him almost every day, punching him, pushing him around, putting cigarettes out on him, and throwing things at him. For this, Kazuo developed an unusually high pain tolerance to the point where some might suspect he doesn't feel pain at all. He started killing neighborhood animals when he was around nine years old. Many were feral cats, others were pet cats or dogs, and a small handful were wild animals like raccoons on the occasion he found one in a trap. Kazuo killed once or twice every other day, usually with a knife or a bat and sometimes with his bare hands. In middle school he had a little gang for awhile, but they dropped off as they realized he had no attachment to them, and in high school he had one companion, the closest person he ever had to a friend. He never tried too hard in school and picked fights frequently. His father stopped abusing him once Devan was old enough to retaliate around 15; it only took one time for the man to learn to avoid his son.
In his world his homeland, Japan, is set in a dystopian alternate timeline where a totalitarian government runs an annual survival game called the Program. A class of misbehaved students is pulled from a lottery to participate. In the Program, students are confined to an island by remote-control-detonation collars, receive a backpack with a randomized weapon, and are told to kill each other until only one is left; the sole surviver is declared the winner and can go home. Kazuo volunteered for the Program purely for fun toward his senior year of high school and was thrown into that year's selected class of 40 students as a "transfer". He had the highest kill count of the class at 11 students. Amongst these deaths included two girls who used a megaphone to try and call for peace - Kazuo riddled them full of bullets, then held the megaphone to the one still alive so the whole island could hear her pained moans and screams when he finished her off. When he was one of four students left, he was blinded by an explosion and the other "transfer student", Shogo Kawada, a boy who was the survivor of a previous Program, took the opportunity to attack. Shogo shot Kazuo in the leg and then in the government-issued collar, which exploded and killed him. Shogo later died of bullet wounds inflicted by his adversary, however, raising Kazuo's kill count to 12.
Next he knew, Kazuo awoke here unscathed.
( Since the movie verse Kazuo Kiriyama is a rather vague character given little to no background, I took some creative liberties in expanding it. Hope you don't mind. <3 )
