“He would have if we weren't declared failures and treated as such.”
Many biotics were eliminated but only the ones that proved themselves to be an immediate threat. At the time Imai had given them no reason to just off and kill her so they released her back to her family and left her alone. Exclude the biotics and she was thought as nothing more than a fragile little girl who wouldn't make a good soldier. How wrong they were.
“So what's life like on planet Turian?”

Garrus Vakarian Failures? Garrus wondered. Garrus Vakarian Tell me, did they give you implants as a child? The biotics here weren't all that different from the ones in his universe, though the label their implants have may be different. One in particular from his universe were the L2 implants which caused many humans that had them to be unstable and if that was the case Garrus could see why Isafaro would label them as failures. Or she could have the L1 implants which only allowed for manipulation of small objects. Garrus Vakarian What were they labeled? Garrus finally decided to take a seat across from Imai at the table now that the conversation was beginning to shift over to him. Garrus Vakarian Our homeworld is called Palaven. I always thought it was quite hot. Like Genesis it produced carbon-based life and the air is breathable but it's built on dextro-amino acids making my species rare in my universe. We're the only other sapient dextro-protein race asides from the quarians.

"Failures?"
Imai nodded.
"Tell me, did they give you implants as a child?"
“Yeah. They gave us all implants.”
"What were they labeled?"
“The first ones were L1. We were upgraded to L2 when we got older. Why?”
Imai knew that there were biotics in his reality but they never went much into details about it. This was probably the longest conversation they ever had in the six months that they've been working together. She smiled as he sat down across from her and started talking about his home.
"Our homeworld is called Palaven. I always thought it was quite hot. Like Genesis it produced carbon-based life and the air is breathable but it's built on dextro-amino acids making my species rare in my universe. We're the only other sapient dextro-protein race asides from the quarians."
“Quarian?”

As he expected. What happened with the human alliance back in his universe was the same situation going on here in Isafaro. It made him wonder just how similar the two situations were and made him worried for Imai. Garrus Vakarian The L2 implants I come from possessed unpredictable results. Some are barely any better off than they were with the L1 implants while others are unstable and become dangerous. Then there are the ones who are fit for battle but suffer some discomfort. If Isafaro's case is similar we may have an issue with biotics somewhere down the line. Do you suffer from any discomfort? It wasn't that Garrus thought Imai would become a threat somewhere down the road, he was only concerned for the state of her health. Considering some of the things they've faced together already heaven forbid in a middle of a mission she was unable to continue it. Garrus Vakarian The quarians are the only other sapient dextro-protein race in the known universe. Well known for their skill with technology and synthetic intelligence. Ever since their homeworld was conquered by the geth they lived aboard the Migrant Fleet, a large collection of starships that travel as a single fleet. They live in exile; their top priority is the survival and sustainability of the Migrant Fleet. I worked with a quarian aboard the Normandy, Tali'Zorah. Very capable young lady. Spent a lot of time in the engines of the ship as you can probably imagine.

“Just migraines.”
Although it was a serious matter, Imai couldn't help but smile at Garrus after he was through talking.
“Are you worried about me?”

Garrus Vakarian Well I- I didn't mea- Garrus was stumbling over words as he found himself at a lost, his face turning red until the conversation finally turned around to something he could talk about clearly. The geth. Garrus Vakarian The geth are a race of networked artificial intelligence created by the quarians for labor. But the geth evolved into sentient begins and began to question their masters, leading to the quarians attempt to exterminate them but the geth fought, and they won, forcing the quarians off their home planet. The Normandy had many run ins with the geth since Commander Shepard was put in charge of the ship and they allied themselves with the reapers but Garrus saw no reason to get into all of that right now. Garrus Vakarian I worked with Commander Shepard. A war hero to her people. Held off enemy forces on her own until reinforcement arrive on her very first mission. Fine lady. Then there were Ashley Williams and Kaidan Alenko. Kaidan is a biotic like yourself wired with the same L2 implants. Williams was a no-nonsense soldier with a good heart. Other people who joined later after myself were our lead scientist Liara T'Soni and a krogan bounty hunter named Urdnot Wrex. We've went through a lot together. Sure did beat working at C-Sec...

"Well I- I didn't mea-"
Imai brought a hand up to her lips and released a quiet giggle.
“It's fine. Really. I think it's very sweet.”
"The geth are a race of networked artificial intelligence created by the quarians for labor. But the geth evolved into sentient begins and began to question their masters, leading to the quarians attempt to exterminate them but the geth fought, and they won, forcing the quarians off their home planet."
The story sounded like something straight out of a science fiction novel; an artificial intelligence created by man evolving to such a length that they became self aware and a threat to the humans. While Imai wasn't quick to judge the quarians harshly she definitely couldn't blame the geth for defending themselves and fighting not just for their freedom but for their survival. It wasn't too different from what she and her comrades were doing right now with Vulture.
“What became of the geth?”
"I worked with Commander Shepard. Sounded like quite the diverse team, reminded her of her team almost. They had a questionable but fairly effective Captain (201), a man of few words (Kragen), an enhanced pilot who always sought out peaceful solutions no matter how unreasonable the enemy was (Kira), a former Pop Idol and recovering rape victim with a strong unyielding will (Aminee Starlight) and finally Garrus. The rebel turian who for better or worse seems to be Kragen absolute equal in combat. Imai couldn't imagine seeing one without the other far behind during a mission. She couldn't ask for a better squad.
“And what was C-Sec?”

Garrus Vakarian The geth isolated themselves, attacking any ships that entered into geth space without so much as a second thought or a warning. There they continued to develop new technology until three centuries later where they attacked a human colony under the command of a man named Saren. A fellow turian who spat on our name. He wanted to bring back an ancient race of machines called the Reapers who wiped out all galactic life years ago and who the geth worshiped as gods so they followed their "prophet" Saren in hope that they would return.
We managed to stop Saren and the Reaper invasion although even after everything that happened people refuse to believe the Reapers were real. Just a myth and that the Reaper we fought, Sovereign, was just a product of geth technology. I don't know how they can be so blind. If you were there and saw the geth and Sovereign, you'd know that was nothing the geth could ever create. As Garrus spoke he realized that he kept talking about things in passing that Imai wouldn't know anything about. This time it was C-Sec. At this rate he was going to end up explaining everything he knew about his reality, not that he had any complaints mind you. Garrus Vakarian C-Sec was my old job before joining the Normandy crew. It's short for "Citadel Security Services" it deals in law enforcement on the Citadel, an old space station which serves as the headquarters of the Citadel Council, a powerful, multi-species governing body - it answers to the Citadel Council. But it was buckled down by too many rules and regulations. Back during the investigation into Saren to prove he was working with the geth I had to work outside the rule book to prove his guilt. That's when I first met Commander Shepard. I went back later on, some things Shepard and I talked about convinced me to give it a second chance, but it was worse than last time. There's things that change, things that never do and then there are things that only get worse with time. C-Sec would be the latter.

Reapers? Wipe out all galactic life? They sounded as crazy as General Vulture did with his current plans to conquer all of existence. Maybe even more so. General Vulture didn't want to wipe out all life. Who would he rule over in that case? Imai couldn't imagine what it must have been liked to go through all of that, and Garrus survived. She was definitely glad that he was on their side.

“Why would Saren and the geth want to bring back something that would cause their extinction? What do they possibly gain from that?”

“I see. Well some times you have to work outside the rulebook. That's pretty much what we're doing now. As far as Isafaro current governing body is concerned we're terrorists.”

Garrus Vakarian It turns out Saren was being controlled by Sovereign, so subtly in fact that he didn't even realize it. The Reapers have the power to indoctrinate someone to bend them to their will. And only the geth know why they wanted to bring back the Reapers. Maybe they were also indoctrinated or believed because they were both synthetics the Reapers would spare them. Hard to say. Garrus couldn't repress the chuckle that came out when Imai noted that to Vulture and his men they were terrorists. That didn't mean a whole lot coming from a dictator like General Vulture. Garrus Vakarian Well you know what they say, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Imai was speechless. A being with the power to strip your free will from you and make you do as they say? She never wanted to confront anything that has the power to do that.
Well you know what they say, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
Imai smiled.
“Yeah. You're right about that. Be honest with me, Garrus; what do you think our chances are at winning this thing?”

Garrus Vakarian I know it looks bad now but I believe we can win this. We can't attack them head on yet but what we can do is hit them strategically like we've been doing. Break them down slowly while we increase our support. Kragen and I already have a good start on that through sabotage of their supplies. Vulture is arrogant. His head's been up in the clouds too long. He doesn't believe he can be defeated, completely oblivious to the facts that neither him nor his army are unstoppable. That's how we win.

Imai smiled. Glad to see that some around her still believed they could win this thing. When up against such an imposing force it's only natural to have doubts but morale has slowly been getting worse around here. Hopefully Imai would be able to provide her people with some good news soon.
“I'm glad to hear it. It's been nice talking with you, Garrus, but if there's nothing else you need I'm going to have to wrap this up. I have some work I need to intend to.”

As humans would say, "Time flies when you're having fun." Garrus didn't even realize how much time has passed since the two of them started talking. Garrus Vakarian Right. I'll leave you to it. Garrus stood up from the table and headed over to the door. Garrus Vakarian I have some work to get done too. Calibrations. The turian smiled towards Imai before turning around and taking his leave from her office.
