Late Arrival [Empress Chole]

Kailix had waited. He knew there was a new Empress, but one had to be cautious when playing all the sides. Even with the worlds merging and his good standing with most, if not all of the leaders. Once so many people saw someone associating with the leaders there was only so many excuses you could use. Obviously the more people to back up the story the more difficult it became to explain away. Of course there were times when he would simple be rid of the memory that people had of the encounter. That however also wasn’t the best thing to do.

He stood far away from the city. Gathering his thoughts for a moment. So Chole had killed Ranko. An unexpected turn of events, but one that in the long run of things didn’t matter. It would all burn eventually. After he had his fun of course, but now came the time for necessities. Politics, or in this case simply getting to know the new little problem. Another thing however was Kasul had changed hands. Personally Kailix had never taken an interest in the blade. It was more trouble than it was worth. Admittedly he was curious to see the effect it had taken on her.

It was a powerful blade to be sure. One that most feared and with good reason, but it held no fear for him. He had seen the forging of it long ago. Why should he fear that which he knew everything about. He sighed before adjusting his hat and putting on a smile. With that he appeared directly in the throne room. He knew she would be there because he had a letter delivered the day earlier, but it was charmed so only she could read it. To anyone else the letter would be blanks, even if she hadn’t gotten the letter. Leaving the country so soon after acquiring it would be foolish to say the least.

He removed his hat and bowed slightly to the new Empress. ”Empress Chole. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.” he said not yet rising. Procedures like this had to be followed. Once she told him it was okay to rise he would do so, but not before. And she was probably used to this sort of things by now anyway. Probably.

Kailix would see Chloe approaching over the horizon, the long blonde hair tied up in two pigtails and bums would be the first thing one would notice about the woman long before she came into full view. Once she did he would see she was dressed in light black armor with a matching trench coat over the armor and Kasul safely concealed away at her waist. To her right was the 6'8 Black Knight General Kaso himself and to her left was General Alexander. Chloe stood two feet ahead of the other two and looked down to the green-haired man that bowed to her presence. Judging by her facial expression she wasn't sure what to make of this man but the bowing she liked, even if it wasn't obvious on her face.

"Rise." Chloe waited for him to stand up before going any further. "Why have you summoned me?"

Kailix didn’t show anything on his face, but inwardly the armor while not entirely unexpected was unnecessary. He did take it all in without ever raising his head. He felt the presence of Kasu and Alexander as well. He knew that both of them would know him. He had previous audiences with Ranko when she was Empress, but that was all in the past now wasn’t it? He wondered if they had disposed of the body yet. A matter for another time.

He did however remain like that until she told him to rise. He did so. He briefly debated putting his hat back on. Something he did let show through his features, confusion, as he raised his hand as if to put it on only to pull it back to his chest. He wasn’t sure if she cared or not and honestly he didn’t care, but it was just for the appearance of it. Right the reason he was here. He was sure Kaso and Alexander could tell her if she really wanted to know, but it seemed that had been a question reserved for him, or perhaps she was just confirming it.

Either way it did need an answer of some sort. ”As both General Kaso and General Alexander can confirm for you I was served Empress Ranko.” he said his face showing a bit of nervousness about it. ”May she rest in peace.” he added quickly, before continuing.

”I mostly gathered intelligence to offer when she wanted it or needed it.” he said. He honestly wasn’t sure how she would take his offer, but still in the long run it mattered not. He would still see the world burn with or without a single pawn. ”Not to say that your intelligence isn’t adequate.” he was quick to assure her. ”However there is only so much one can do once one becomes know to be working for a certain faction. I’m sure you realize this. That’s where I came in. While not officially a part of the forces I do what I can.” he said offering her a quick shrug.

And his intelligence was usually much more detailed than anything they would get, but he didn’t mention that for now. He had one last thing to add on top of everything he had already said. ”I also came to pay my respects to the fallen Empress and the new one that took her place.” that would be the note he ended on. Hopefully some of what he said would make an impact on her. Hopefully this meeting would end as planned with another side to play if the need ever arose, but they seemed to be doing a good job at causing Chaos by themselves. None of his actions were over done, but instead each of them showed a proper amount of nervousness to them. One that didn't say he was weak, but merely afraid of her decision, as most would be.

"What's in it for you?" That was the question swimming around in her mind since the man started talking and the first thing that came to mind. No one ever did anything out of the goodness of their heart anymore. There was always a catch; scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. It was how politics and a lot of other things worked in any reality so Chloe wondered what she would be expected to do in return. "How do you benefit from all of this?"

Now finally came the real question of the entire debate. Of course telling her the real reason for any of it was out of the question, not that any of them here besides himself knew the reason he had helped Ranko out, but she still gave no indication on his hat so he continued to simple hold it to his chest. So if he couldn’t tell her the real reason, then it had to be something else.

”Stability.” he said simply the word filling the room. And it did have a bit of truth to it. Her staying in power would help the stability of everything and help speed his plans along. To much of an imbalance caused things to get held up on small details about who should be leading what. It took away from the entertainment of watching the mayhem.

”I don’t think it’s any great mystery that in stable times people prosper. That being said I myself am no different.” he admitted with a shrug. It was a sad fact, sad but true. ”When people are able to feel as if something out of the ordinary isn’t going to occur they become more confident in their day to day lifes. They begin to build, to work, and even develop faster.” he said taking the time to explain it.

Really when he said stability however he had meant for the leaders until he decided to shake things up again, but everything in his statement was pointing towards a personal gain of nothing if not money. Of course Kailix had little interest in money, but that didn’t mean he had to act like it. On the contrary, If it helped him convince her he would talk all day about the subject. Indeed there was proof to back up his claim as well.

Chloe looked to Kaso and Alexander who still said nothing, and they wouldn't unless spoken to directly by her. She was just trying to get a feel of what they thought about this guy but as always they were unreadable unless given a question and Chloe would rather not talk about this man right in front of him. Just in case it altered their answers. "Care to give me some examples of your work?" The vampiress didn't expect a resume like one would have in her world but if he has done anything of importance in helping Ranko in the past now would be the time to speak up.

Kailix caught her looking at Alexander and Kaso. It was hard to say for sure what that meant. It was a fair guess that it had something to do with him however. He wasn’t sure weither to be pleased or worried, but his face showed none of that. However it seemed she wouldn’t be asking about his personal life which was just as well since he had to draw a line somewhere on his openness.

Whatever the case. Whatever her reasons for the look they would go unvoiced. With both of them, they were both hiding their true feeling here, except Kailix had all of time to prefect his act. Everything in him was radiating the same messages he was. Even if his answers were not the same his mind and body were both putting forth the same answer. A perfect deception at its finest.

It was always examples wasn’t it? Not that he could actually blame her. What he was asking her in essence to trust him and he knew that even then she would probably have reserves for a while which was fine. And it made since that she would want examples of previous things he had helped with. Of course he could bring up the founding and destruction of several countries, but only one of the names might mean anything to Chole.

So he decided to go with the most recent one. One which to his knowledge they still had. ”The most recent example would be the tip about Isafaro’s Golden Trio moving to secure the tower. As I understand that ended with great success. With the capture of two of the three officers.” he said of course one would hardly be enough, even if that information hadn’t been let known yet, so another one would make due. Perhaps something a bit more recent.

He doubted Chole trusted him yet so he slowly reached into his jacket and pulled out a file extending it for whomever to take. Weither for to be Chole or one of her generals he cared not. ”If you’re looking for something a bit more relevant, then perhaps this would suffice. I doubt you’ve heard of a country named Kari before. It one day vanished when they were testing some unstable elements. It formed the modern day Crystal Expanse. However when the Arashi destroyed that they also gave way for part of it to return. It is possible if there are survivors you may soon find yourself in the midst of a war with them.”

It wasn’t a threat merely a fact. Inside the folder if she took it, if anyone took it. They would find many pictures, files, notes, and general other documents pointing to proof that it had once existed and what it stood for. In all efforts it was putting a foot forward, now would she trust what was true and what her eyes confirmed?

So he was the contact that notified Jherrazad of Isafaro's latest attempt to seize the tower; couldn't argue with the results from that as she was expecting her friends to question Ayanna and Zach at some point in the near future. When he informed her of Kari and pulled out a folder, Chloe nodded towards Alexander who took the folder and began reading it to himself before looking back at Chloe.

"The melted half of the Crystal Expanse has created more desert in which the Kari survivors dwell. It crosses over with ours," said Alexander.

"Everyone in Jherra knows that the desert rightfully belongs to Jherrazad. They have no leg to stand on," said Kaso.

"The last thing we need is a territorial war when Vulture's the real threat."

"Perhaps it would be possible to strike a deal with them."

"Preposterous! Ranko would never-"

"I'm not Ranko, General."

"Yes. Indeed you aren't..."

Chloe gave Alexander the green light to hold onto the folder before looking back towards Kailix. "Right now my main concern is General Vulture. His main influence lies in Moon Valley and of course his own nation. Think your intel would be able to help us stay one step ahead?"

Kailix let Alexander take the file from him. As he read it Kailix waited patiently. After all there wasn’t much else to do, but wait. Finally Alexander spoke. He had to seeing as he was the only one that read the file. And then Kaso spoke as well. Hazama remained silent during their little debate, but inwardly he knew it was a triumph. He had at the very least earned her tentative acceptance, if not more. And that was as good a place to start as any.

Although their conversation was interesting. A territory war was just what he wanted to see actually although he would never admit as much. It seemed Kaso was still missing Ranko. He wondered if there was a way to use that to split the Empire even further. Also a matter for another time. After all it was such an easy thing to call souls back from the afterlife. Two heirs to the same throne. Neither willing to share that power. It was an interesting idea, but it was something for another time. Perhaps after things settled down a bit or Chole felt secure with her new position.

Finally she turned to address him again. He had waited patiently taking the conversation in, but not commenting on it. Of course her concern was General Vulture. There were only two other countries and one seemed to be keeping a precarious neutrality. And who knew what Maricul was thinking. She was however telling him things he already knew, but he didn’t point that out. ”Of course Empress. What good is intel if it comes after the action?” he asked, but of course it was a rhetorical question. She wasn’t really meant to answer it.

It’s almost assured however that Isfarao is already mounting some sort of operation to get their officers back.” he said, but that too was something she should already know. What was unknown was where and the numbers of the forces in question. However it was a fair bet that a lot of troops would be spent in the operation….unless Kailix could pull some strings. In which case it might just be the start of a beautiful collapse of everything, but that would require research.

"Then your first assignment is to find out what kind of forces we're dealing with." It looked like Chloe was about to lead her first major battle with an army at her command and she wanted to learn all she could about the forces marching towards her new empire. "Unless there's anything else you would like to add we're finished here. Kailix indeed had nothing else to add and Chloe, Alexander and Kaso took their leave concluding this meeting.
