Name: Vergil
Aliases:Son of Sparda, The Dark Slayer, Nelo Angelo/ The Dark Angel. The Azure Macabre
Age: Unknown looks to be 25-30
Gender: Male
Species: Half Demon
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Canon or Original: Canon
Date of Birth: Unknown
Place of Birth: Uknown
Physical Appearance:
Vergil is a man many would deem gifted to have such astonishing beauty. Being one of the sons of Sparda, he shares much in common with his brother Dante although he would prefer not too. Both brothers displaying a delicate muscular build which clearly shows that every part of each individual's body, down to the very last muscle has been honed and brought to the very epitome of their potential. Unlike his brother Dante however, who always leaves his hair in a chaotic mess Vergil spikes his silvery white hair with water, though it tends to rebel against him in times of combat or when it gets wet. Gifted with bright azure eyes, Vergil's piercing gaze is something that could put even the most virtuous of women under a spell of lust and desire with but one glimpse from his sapphire orbs. However, this is but a ruse, as these blue gem stones have brought fear and terror to devil, angel and humans alike time and time again.
Though the two twin's physical traits are almost identical, their sense for fashion is not. Where as Dante shows his sloppy nature by wearing a rugged red leather jacket and combat vest with leather boots Vergil displays yet again that they are worlds apart. Outfitted with a recognizable blue coat, navy-blue pants, leather boots, gloves, black armor and a silk tie, Vergil's clothing is certainly not something to go unnoticed in a crowd, a very rare find one could say. Last but not least, he used to wear part of their mothers amulet close to his chest at all times. After loosing it to Dante as Mundus's slave Nelo Angelo at Mallet Island, and events following the incident, it is currently out of his reach, and thus he desperately seeks to recover it. His reasons for wanting to regain possession of it however is knowledge to him and him alone.
Personality:
Calm, calculative and even cruel, possessing a cold and stoic demeanour. Vergil is the polar opposite of his brother in many ways. Where his twin allied himself to the human cause, Vergil takes pride in the pristine blood of Sparda which flows in their veins, embracing his demon heritage in a quest to gain more power after the death of their mother. Almost completely drained of foolish emotions such as love, compassion and mercy. Vergil believes his feelings to be nothing more then a cancer poisoning his mind. His heart is merely a block of ice, bearing only one goal, his unending quest to acquire the might of his father, to surpass him and any who would dare stand in his way by any means necessary. This soon became an obsession to the young devil, and still is to this day. The Dark Slayer is not one to be quickly angered although when he is, few can boast having ever witnessed such a thing.
Special Abilities:
While still in his human form Vergil already displays a frightening physical strength, endurance and speed. Able to shatter stone and concrete through simple punches and kicks, as well as leap great distances is merely some of the most basic abilities granted to him through the devils blood in his veins. In addition he is also a master swordsman, as such speed and strength is the essence of his form of combat. He specialises himself in the usage of martial arts and various types of sword combat, though he prefers the Japanese katana. Having trained in the art of battle all his life, Vergil is a foe not to be taken lightly. A true master of the Iaido sword style, Vergil utilizes his unmatched speed to perfect the Iaido down to the very last detail, allowing him to kill enemies in the blink of an eye, and cut through any object with ease.
Judgement Cut:
In his years of training, Vergil has developed a delicate technique he refers to as 'Judgement Cut.' Using an unfathomable speed, Vergil draws the Yamato faster then the eye can see. Infused with his own crushing demonic power, this grand slash is every bit as sharp as the cruel edge of the Yamato, and reaches a speed so fast that it travels through dimensions, making Vergil able to rend the flesh of his enemies in the blink of and eye over great distances, as if the very fabric of the world was sliced in half.
Phantom Blades:
In addition to the judgement cut, Vergil have been forced to find other means to attack from long ranges, due to his dislike of firearms as he doesn’t view them as weapons of the true warrior. Over time his powers mended themselves to allow him to create blades composed of his own energy through simple manipulations of his mind. While before, in his young age, the summoning of these blades required a small matter of effort, with his new found strength he can do so with a sheer effort of will and focus alone.
Phantom Barrier:
A deviation of the phantom blades, with time and dedication Vergil is now easily able to alternate the energy used to compose the blades, redirecting the flow as to make barriers and shields.
These resilient barriers have shown themselves able to withstand even the most devastating of attacks time and time again.
Azure FlamesWhen Vergil was enslaved by Mundus Lord of the Underworld he was infused with a great deal of the demon lords power, altering his body in the process, forcing him to serve as the newly christened Nelo Angelo. Upon his final defeat, Vergil was imprisoned in the demon world by Mundus, and after his death, the Dark Slayer was lost, forgotten. Over time the powers granted to him by Mundus mended themselves in their own way, as Vergil gained control of his body and mind once again. Having broken his demonic shell as the dreaded Nelo Angelo, his powers as the herald of Mundus remained, and grew ever stronger by the day.
Vergil is now able to call upon the horrid blue flames which burned his body and mind as Nelo Angelo, able to channel this crushing demonic energy as he sees fit. The flames burning with ferocity and heat equal to the very fires of hell bends to his will on a whim. Easily able to elegantly weave entire fields of flame, immolating his foes or showering an entire army in demonic fire, leaving nothing but burned husks.
Orb of Chaos
An ability drawn from the power of the Azure Flames. Through delicate manipulation of the dreaded energy coursing throughout his body, Vergil will begin to focus this demonic power into the palm of his hand, concentrating a vast amount of energy in the shape of a medium seized sphere of azure flames. Able to fire these rapidly at great speed, these orbs of demonic power are able to wreck havoc on a battlefield, offering great destructive power depending on the amount of energy placed into the orb itself.
Teleportation
An ability used often when Vergil served as the harbinger of the Underworld, Nelo Angelo. When using this ability, Vergil's entire body appears to be disintegrating in a blur of blue flames, as he uses the demonic energies coursing throughout his being to project his body through what can be described as a 'portal.' Allowing him to traverse over incredible distances faster then light itself.
Devil Trigger:
Vergil, like his brother, is able to tap into his Devil self to transform momentarily into a Demon. Although having not only embraced his heritage as a devil, Vergil was also exposed to the crushing power of Mundus who still flows in his veins to this day, alas it permits Vergil to assume his Devil Trigger for far much longer than normally possible. As a demon Vergil’s physical strength and endurance is boosted far beyond imagining, this includes his other known abilities as well, such as the Dark Slayer and his energy level, making him a truly terrifying being of untold power. Not to mention his regenerative powers, as he is shown ignoring even the most severe injuries to his body as if they hardly touched him, however depending on the magnitude of such attacks, the scars of battle becomes visible once he reverts to his human form.
Styles:
Dark Slayer:
The Dark Slayer style is a most devastating tool developed by the young devil. Speed, to all, is a law of physic, but to Vergil it is but a word, a mere rule that can be bent as easily as it can be broken, as such he knows that time itself cannot bind him. Dark Slayer allows Vergil to move his body at tremendous speeds far beyond one’s ability to see, he has reached a point where Vergil can now utterly transport himself from one place to another with ease if the already outstanding speed he possesses isn’t enough to outmanoeuvre his opponents, although it is something that would be most unlikely. Over time many may have tried to copy the Dark Slayer style, yet these petty imitations all pale in comparison when faced against the one who created it. To this day none have been able to match the speed and grace of Vergil's deadly fighting style.
Weapons:
Yamato:
Yamato is a legendary oriental sword that was given to Vergil by his father, Sparda as a keepsake. The blade itself always seemed to follow the Legendary Dark Knight into battle, and thus acquired a frightening strength due to it being exposed to Sparda’s power. The weapon is imbued with a seemingly limitless darkness and thus greatly affects beings composed of light, not only this, but the Yamato is deemed able to cut through anything, one of the reasons it is often being referred to as ’the sword that divides.’
Another reason is that the blade has been shown being able to open gates to the Underworld, as well as destroy them with ease due to the tremendous magic stored within. Thus it is a blade regarded with equal awe and terror as that of the Legendary Dark Knight. The only objects who are known to resist its cruel edge are those imbued with Demon souls or other powerful magical artefacts.
Beowulf:
Beowulf, on the other hand, is an impressive weapon made of two gauntlets and graves entirely composed of the magical essence of the light demon that bore the same name. Upon defeating the beast with ease, Vergil thus harnessed the energy of his slain foe, and created a new devastating weapon. Inhumanly powerful, they release a focused explosion of pure energy affiliated to light upon impact, making even the weakest of individuals maddeningly powerful should they possess it. Added to Vergil’s strength and speed however, they become virtually the most fearsome and devastating of weapons.
Septimus
Of the countless devils Vergil has fought throughout his life, few prove themselves powerful enough to be worthy of extracting their souls for his own uses even when offered. Septimus was different.
A powerful devil in his own right, alas falling terribly short against the might of The Dark Slayer. Upon his defeat, Vergil would honor the beast by harnessing the power of the mighty devil, and in doing so, the soul of the vanquished demon became a new weapon for the half breed.
Able to be summoned at will, Septimus is a long dual bladed lance who carries with it the essence of power that the demon himself bore. Imbued with the powers of lightning, this weapon is fuelled by this essence, increasing the actual speed of swings and thus releases the elemental energy stored within upon impact, frying enemies through powerful shock bursts. Furthermore the spiralled shaft of the weapon itself has the inert ability of rendering it capable to stretch the weapon at will in lightening fast thrusts to skewer enemies in he blink of an eye over great distances.
History:
Vergil is the twin brother of the son of Sparda, Dante. Sparda was a Demon who, in compassion for humans, fought against his own kind for the sake of the human race. With his sword bearing his own name, he vanquished the demons in another world to be sealed away from the humans forever. Thus he ruled secretly over the world of man, falling in love with a human woman, Eve, with whom he had two children.
Being both the sons of the great Demon, both inherited a portion of his power although even through being twins, Dante and Vergil focused on very different techniques, their powers developing over time in their training. Out of the two, Vergil was the most serious about his training and became undoubtedly the better swordsman of the two, conserving reluctance for firearms as he never believed them to be the weapons of a true warrior.
In time, their father disappeared and both the sons kept one of their father’s respective weapons, the Yamato, a Katana infused with Dark Energies while Dante took the Rebellion. The Dark Prince of Hell, Mundus then murdered Eve. It is then that Dante and Vergil were separated, Dante vowing vengeance upon all demons while his brother continued on a quest for greater power. The two eventually reunited in the dreaded tower of the Temen-Ni-Gru where the two had a violent clash of blades, with Vergil easily gaining upper hand and taking his brothers Amulet to activate the tower’s seals and leave him to take the power of his father.
Yet even though Dante was defeated, the battle awakened the Demon within him, letting him chase his brother relentlessly across the tower. Although, a demon was imprisoned within the tower over the centuries because of Sparda and sought the blood of both the brothers, going after Dante first who blinded the beast, which was then brutally slaughtered by Vergil who absorbed the Demon’s soul, giving him the ability to summon the light-imbued gauntlets named Beowulf.
Getting closer to his goal, Dante chased his brother through the abyss of hell into which they fought again, this time, Vergil’s overconfidence in his own ability to wield his father’s sword, the Force Edge, made Dante gain the upper hand in their duel.
Vergil then held on to his amulet as he threw himself in the burning hells… Locking away the power of his father for all eternity, ensuring that no one but him was to wield the power of Sparda. Arriving in the abysmal dimension, the Dark Prince awaited him. Being weakened by the fights with his brother, Vergil fell under the might of the God, becoming enslaved by the will of the angelic figure.
Twenty years later, Vergil is again confronted by Dante against his own will on Mallet Island where the Dark Prince had finally found a way to break the seals that Sparda had erected around the Demon realm, only to be defeated again, unable to fight with his full potential as Mundus manipulated Vergil’s each and every movement like a puppet, removing him from the fight in an explosion of blue flames, knowing the Demon-hunter to be far superior then his brother. Locking him away in his timeless cell where he lingered until the aftermath of the Dark Prince’s defeat.
As the years passed Vergil soon began to break free, shackle by shackle, and soon saw a way to be free from his accursed prison. His current power however, was not enough to break his bonds, so he sought other means of doing so. Using a large portion of his remaining power, Vergil forcefully manifested part of his demonic power into the being of an elusive young man, his own son… Nero which in turn, unlocked the demon within him, a power which manifested itself into a devils arm, that would later become known as the 'Devil Bringer,' as well as allowing his sword already infused with his power to be found.. the mighty Yamato, yet purposefully broke it so that none within the Order of the Sword might have benefited from its full power until the time was right.. until Nero would find it, and use the power invested in him to restore it. It was Vergil's plan that the boy become his unwilling 'liberator', you could say. As expected, the hunger for power he saw within the eyes of the Sanctus all those years ago proved true, a man obsessed with acquiring the power of a demon…a simple and predictable goal. He needed only buy his time before the Order of the Sword launched their plans of dominating the world through demonic control, and Nero… would be its saviour.
Having taunted the young swordsman relentlessly to seek out power, using the Devil Bringer as a medium to commune with him directly into his mind. Nero gathered souls of every demon he slew through his arm, transferring part of this energy to The Dark Slayer in the process... and with every demon slain, Vergil's strength grew substantially. As the adventure of Nero ended, it wasn’t long after that the time was right for Vergil to make his move… and thus broke free from his prison at last. With no portal available, he travelled back to the human world himself through the very arm he infested, tearing his sword Yamato, from Nero in the process. Alas Nero, despite his best efforts were greatly weakened by this unexpected development, and as such, stood powerless before the terrible might of his father, leaving the boy bloodied and beaten him with nothing but a wraith blade resembling the cruel weapon of The Dark Slayer, and a haunting sentence etched within his mind, “You’re not worthy as my opponent.” With his demonic right arm forever serving as the memory that Vergil was once again free to walk the earth.
Vergil has since then spent years honing his skills, with his desire for power driving him to absolute perfection, alas as the merging of worlds was thrust upon the universe, the coming of ’the end’ threatens all life, and the threat can no longer be ignored. Thus The Dark Slayer has come here… at the convergence of worlds seeking means to prevent the coming end. His reasons however is knowledge to him and him alone, though one can guess. Despite of this, the cold devil will stop at nothing to empower himself further.
To that end Vergil's obsession with acquiring the might of is father is ever present.
