Name: Richard
Aliases: Lord Ashendale, Richard, Chief Warlock of the Brothers of Darkness, Lord of the Thirteen Hells, Master of the Bones, Emperor of the Black, Lord of the Undead, Lord of the Dance, Mistress of Magma, and mayor of a little village across the sea
Age: Unknown, at least several hundred, or even a few thousand.
Gender: Male
Species: Er.....miscellaneous
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Canon or Original: Canon -- Looking for Group
Date of Birth: Unknown
Place of Birth: Unknown
Physical Appearance:
Personality: Richard is the type of person that would waltz into a village, and sing joyously while brutally maiming and slaughtering the entire village, and dancing along with the screams of fear and death the inhabitants let out at his antics, and just be as happy as can be. He's impossibly childish about his violence, as well, and tends to do things simply because they might be amusing, and will just as soon juggle the severed heads of a few bodies as go bowling with some townspeople, with the townspeople as the pins and a giant ball of fire as the ball.
He's insane of the 'delightful' variety, and despite his continued mass murder and childish antics, it's almost impossible not to like him eventually. He has a habit of making people who don't threaten him or wind up dead from his playing around laugh with how childish he can be. He's constantly joking around and never seems serious about anything he does, which is a direct contrast to his horrific acts of violence he often commits.
For instance, he came up with the battlecry of "For Pony!", and promptly screams it whenever delving into battle, or when undertaking a strenuous or otherwise important task, despite the asssistance of Cale'anon that it wasn't fit to be a battlecry. He also does many other silly things, such as making very immature, yet very amusing, quotes and being generally very blunt with his sense of humor. When Cale and his friends were setting off and remarked they had a long road ahead of them, for instance, Richard gleefully responded with, "Let's litter it with bodies!"
His sense of humor, as you may have guessed, is very strange, and it's sometimes diffucult to tell when he's joking and when he isn't. Though you can bet he's only joking when not doing what he says would be more fun. If he says he's going to disembowel you and use your small intestine as a new belt for his robe, he's not kidding. Unless you can lead him to mroe slaughter and fun, of course, then he'll probably spare you. For a while, anyway.
At the end of the day, Richard is your average, run-of-the-mill psychopath....on steroids. He spares no expense in amusing himself before anything else, and makes fequent note that he does things simply because he's bored, and his sense of humor is extremely diffucult to pinpoint. He often seems bored with things others might consider funny, but finds everything he does simply delightful and hilarious, and only shares his laughs with others who don't mind his antics, or who can tolerate them, and seems to almost downright dislike those who do similar things.
As he once said himself, "I'm very deep."
All in all, whether Richard is making a "This is Sparta!" reference, composing and breaking into song, Rick Rolling someone, or even just making sarcastic comments, you can be sure it will be hilarious, in the most unorthodox, violent way possible.
And he seems to have a love for eating babies. Seriously.
Special Abilities: Richard has displayed a vast multitude of powers and skills, some of which are very powerful, and some of which are only for comedic effect, it would seem. He has displayed proficiency with at least three elements, dark magic, necromancy, possession, the ability to alter spacetime (at least on the Plane of Suck), superhuman strength, imperviousness to pain, proficient martial arts and hand to hand combat skills, and the ability to survive severe and normally lethal injuries. All in all, Richard has proven himself to be, and been pointed out to be by others, the most powerful Warlock the world has seen in a long while.
Among his most used and arguably most powerful abilities is Richard's command over fire, which he refers to as his "Fwoosh!". He can create anything from a minor spark at his fingertips, to great blasts and streaks of fire. He once questioned himself what would happen if he burned a sand dragon with the full heat of the sun, and shortly thereafter, he is seen standing triumphantly next to the sand dragon, now turned to glass. Clearly, he can generate very intense flames. Other examples of his use of flames include the ability to grab hold of someone, and etiher partially or entirely incinerate them nearly instantaneusly, provided they are without some sort of power themselves. Richard has also displayed great control over the flames he commands, and can also produce simply a scorching blast, which will hurt -- and it will hurt like a bitch -- but not do any real damage, mostly for just scaring people or for getting a few laughs. And, of course, Richard is capable of cauterizing a wound, if the need ever strikes him to do so.
Richard has also displayed impressive control over ice and cold. He has done things such as freezing large areas in a block of ice, creating blades of ice around his hands and forearms, and creating walls, barriers, and shields of ice, durable enough to protect one from a flow of magma. He has even been seen to create a wave of icy shards from his hands, the size of both the ice shards and the wave itself varying with how much power he puts into it. He has also summoned a hailstorm of impressive-sized chunks of ice, and been able to fire a alrge chunk of ice as a blast, capable of flash-freezing something to a wall or a similar function, as well as hitting liek a runaway truck.
Richard has also shown at least some control over lightning, being able to manifest it in bright flashes in the clouds above, such as what might happen in a cliche, dramatic movie scene, and also accompany it with loud claps of thunder. Whether or not he can put it to any practical use, however, remains unseen.
Richard has also shown a vast aptitude for dark magic, being able to do such things as conjure an aura around his hands in particular which is decidedly acidic, capable of melting the flesh off of a person's head with a simple wave in close proximity. The full limits of Richard's control over this type of magic is arguable, and he's not telling all he knows, so it's largely unknown.
And, of course, Richard has control over many aspects of necromancy. He is capable of controlling the dead, and making them undead. He can also control a person's skeleton -- or, rather, force someone's skeleton to tear off its skin and obey his commands. This has shown to work on the weak-minded, and those who are unable to resist, such as those asleep or unconscious.
Richard is also capable of 'possessing' another person, via use of the red jewel on his collar. When possessing another, he can telepathically communicate with them, and all of his powers are bestowed unto them, to use as they will. Richard can break the possession at any time, and can even possess inanimate objects and use them as a surrogate body, as the process of 'unsealing' himself from the jewel presumably takes some time.
Though it likely won't come into play, Richard displayed the ability to alter the fabric of space-time while banished to the Plane of Suck. He was able to create duplicates of himself, which he promptly murdered. The extent of this ability, as well as if he always possesses it, is completely unknown.
Richard has shown, in several instances, that he has superhuman strength, to a mostly undefined degree. He has proven to be sufficiently strong enough to tear off a human's face as if he were tearing through paper, pull off someone's head as if it weren't even attached, slash through someone's neck with a sword as if it weren't even there, and, using his claws, punch nearly clean through a troll. Whether this is the limit of his strength or not is unknown, but he hasn't really done anything beyond that to measure from.
Richard has proven on many, MANY occasions to be virtually impervious to pain. He feels no pain from such things as having a dagger impaled into his chest, haivng his limbs chopped off, or even from having his head cut off at one point, and isntead merely points out these injuries in a dull voice, or laughs about them.
In addition to his virtual imperviousness to pain, Richard has proven himself capable of being nearly impossible to kill by normal means. He has been impaled with daggers, shot with arrows, had his limbs severed, taken an axe to the brain, and even been decapitated at one point, and survived it all without showing so much as a sign of lasting damage. However, in most of these cases, he's had to have help reattaching the severed limbs via the services of a healer or else through the passage of enough time.
Richard is also quite proficient in hand to hand combat. As he said himself, "I drained the soul of a monk once. It tasted like chocolate." This being said, Richard was capable, without the use of his magic, to slay several trolls in mere moments, using only his bare hands and claws. And he displayed a vast knowledge of several different stances used in martial arts when preparing to face the Blargh, although he was swatted aside before it could be seen if he could actually put any of them to use, or if he was just faking. Richard was even skilled enough that, somehow, he managed to slay a large bear when his arms were severed.
Richard has also shown himself to be very creative and full of surprises, doing such strange and outlandish things as crafting a hat out of someone's kidney, making a wallet out of a Smurf-like creature, and creating a throne out of the bones of the fallen Bloodrage clan members. He even managed to attach the arms of the large bear he slew in place of his own, becoming a 'bearlock'.
Richard has also displayed various other talents, such as being able to procure items in short order when they aren't readily available, or even probable to locate. He has also displayed a 'ventriloquism spell', which he used to comedic effect to ensure the death of a tavern patron. And when a comment was made about how Benn'joon was the target of someone with a reference to arrows made, Richard responded with "My mind can make arrows, and demonstrated his point by creating two arrows of green energy out of thin air.
Richard has demonstrated other powers, such as releasing an explosion of pure magical energy of sufficient power to completely blow apart a griffin easily ten times his own size, and fire a blast of energy of rather potent power, while shouting "Hadouken!", and the blast did indeed resemble the attack in question. He has also zapped things with bursts of pure magical energy. Richard also seems ot have at least some level of healing spells, as seen when he cuts open a large dwarf and stuffs Cale into the resulting cavity, and promptly seals the wound again with Cale inside.
And finally, the gem on Richard's collar seems to be a conduit for his magical power. Normally, it is a bright red color, but when in use, either to possess another, or releasing its energy, it turs a dull gray color. The gem was able to grant Richard full access to his powers, even when on trial in a demon court and supposedly denied access to his powers.
HOWEVER. Despite Richard's rather prodigious power, he has one major flaw. If he can't move his arms, whether they be pinned or removed from his body or otherwise unusable, all of his magic is null and void. Y'see, even a Warlock as powerful as he is has to have some way to focus his magic. Richard's happens to be flailing his arms about when casting his spells.
And Richard also seems to be able to over-exert himself, which will render him comatose for a while while he recovers his energy. However, even in this state, he is capable of 'sleep-killing', and apparently talking and being aware, but he just can't move or do anything of his own accord. According to him, "You wouldn't understand. It's a warlock thing."
Weapons: Weapons? Nononono. He doesn't use weapons, aside from the periodic blades of ice he forms around his hands. Oh, and his hands. Sometimes he likes ot punch, claw, or generally beat things to death with his bare hands.
History: Richard's past is shrouded in a great deal of mystery, lies, imitations of pop culture stories, comic character origins, and forgetfulness. He's ripped off of so many things when going about his daily life, even HE doesn't remember much of it anymore.
It is known that he was born as a 'Lord Richard Ashendale' to a noble family, and that sometime later in his life he murdered his father and presumably the rest of his family. He has openly admitted to murdering his father, after all, but the rest of his family was never 'claimed' by him. At least not openly.
Richard has lived for, apparently, hundreds of years, and in that time, travelled across a great deal of his homeworld, and killed a great number of people, ranging easily into the thousands if his typical days are any judge. He has also established a little town up the coast, named Pretty Pretty Unicorn, of which he is the mayor of, and which also houses the crypt that holds the remains of his father at the least, and is also the source of his power.
Sometime during his misadventures, he ran into Cale'anon Vatay, and joined him on his journeying out of boredom. At first, he incinerated the poor elf, then took him to a nearby village to be healed, where they met Benn'joon, the half-orc cleric, who healed Cale. After a scuffle, they escaped, and fought some dragons of the Legion, when Krunch Bloodrage appeared, tackling the dragon off of Richard and Cale.
They made their escape, and wound up in the mountain of Chief Engineer Toyk, of the gnomes. Getting themselves into trouble (thanks to Richard), they were forced to join the gnome army to assassinate the Troll Lord Stoll. After more misdaventures, in which Richard and Benny almost wind up killed, they manage to escape thanks to the timely intervention of the gnomes.
Continuing on their way, they come to an abandoned castle, where Cale is taken to the past. Witnessing several scenes and encountering his past people, he receives a pair of swords which will reveal a map to Kethenecia, the location of the Sword of Truth.
After much trial and error, and a great deal of trouble and chaos, they manage to make it to Kethenecia. There, they discover a portal, which Richard activates and sends them tumbling back in time yet again, to the past of Kethenecia.
Richard, unconscious from the energy expended to activate the portal, is left in the village of Bertu. He awakens, and slaughters the entirety of the village's population. He then proceeds to Kethenecia, and arrives just in time to pin Tavor to a wall with a blast of ice and stop him from slaying the Archmage of Kethenecia.
Cale is forced to kill a child to destroy the 'anchor' of Kethenecia, so that it may be forgotten and revived in three thousand years, as well as taking the 'innocence' of Cale'anon, by forcing him to kill a child.
The destruction of the anchor of Kethenecia is succesful, and the city is lost to time for three thousand years, as it should be. They return to the present, where Richard tries to tame the sand dragons, and fails rather humorously.
They are met with a request for aid from a messenger, bringing word that his village is under attack by elementals. They go to aid them, and along the way, Richard is cursed by his familiar, Hctib Elttil, with an amulet which curses him to the size of a small child and drastically reduces his power.
They engage in battle against the elementals, and eventually defeat them, but not without Richard being squashed underfoot by a fire elemental. He was later freed from the curse placed upon him by saving the life of a child. Hctib hinted that only an act of pure selflessness could undo the curse, but whether or not Richad knew this, or whether it simply happened because the child was close by, is uncertain.
Regardless, Richard's return to his full power enabled them to drive off the elementals and survive the resulting flood brought on by the Phares, thanks to Richard's intervention.
They return to Kethenecia with the inhabitants of the town they rescued, and they pledge themselves to Cale, and in the process, make him the king of Kethenecia.
Richard and the others then left Kethenecia, going to the remains of Gamlon, and discovering a Legion camp there. They attack, but are captured and tortured. Richard is delighted, and calls the place a spa, and is actually rather disappointed to leave.
They are rescued by Rayd'bool Bloodrage, Krunch's brother, and go to the home of the Bloodrage to find it in ruin and under attack by the Sisters.
They fight back, and manage to beat back the attack, but Richard is banished to the Plane of Suck in the process. While there, he is put on trial for his numerous acts of non-evil. After much back and forth banter, Richard slaughters the entirety of the court, and is found guilty, but denies the sentence, saying that he is starting to "remember things from before I died." and for the first time in years, he has a goal.
He is returned to the world of the living with the aid of Pella and Benny, who enlist the aid of a shaman to do so. Upon reuniting with the others, Richard promptly returns to hsi usual antics, and makes a 'fire wall' to mock the great Legarion wall.
They go to Legara to free Captain Tah'vraay, in order to enlist the aid of the Sisters, as Cale had been tasked to do. Within the city, Cale is sent to the dungeons where the captain is held, with Richard possessing him and lending him his aid. After much hardship, the effort is succesful, and the group escapes, now with the Sons in tow, and with a wonderful musical number.
The group returns to the home of the Bloodrage, only to find it completely decimated, with no survivors to be seen. They depart to search out their companions, but Richard is called away to save hsi village from the Legion's missionaries.
Upon arriving there, Richard promptly takes care of the problem with his typical flare, and absorbs the spirit of his father from its place in an underground crypt. After taking care of matters, Richard sends the people of his village to 'a little place across the sea', Kethenecia, and makes his way back to Cale.
Upon arriving, he stumbles into the middle of a battle around Mechastone, and makes a dramatic entrance, and promptly turns a dwarf soldier into a wishbone between himself and Rayd.
The battle is a grueling stalemate, and Cale suggests fleeing across the sea to Kethenecia, but Toyk is against the plan wholeheartedly. Pella slaughters the guards of the mecha tower guarding the tunnels, and the dwarves have access to the mountain much easier.
Richard is then tasked with blowing up the mountain to assist in their escape. He does so, after a brief scuffle with Ajella, the Mistress of Magma. Slaying her, he then takes her title for himself and succesfully causes the mountain to erupt.
Fleeing the lava flow, he saves cale by putting him in the corpse of a fallen soldier, and then encasing him in a thick block of ice. Richard himself manages to survive the lava flow unassisted, somehow.
Things settle down, and the gnomes and the Bloodrage escape the mountain (mostly) unharmed. Their next destination is to enlist the aid of the Sisters and Sons, who will not leave without a viable means of escape.
Cale answers this by producing a letter from the trolls, which tells of a portal. Travelling to meet the trolls, they are led to the portal after promising the trolls asylum in Kethenecia.
Richard is the first to investigate the portal, and is met by the Knights of the Way, who promptly decapitate him and bury his body. They then use his head as a distraction, and Richard adds 'temporary doortop and bookend' to his list of titles.
Pella and Sooba depart to track down Richard's body, which they find merrily dancing in the middle of a village, with many happy folk gathered around, playing music and having fun.
IT can only be assumed nothing good came from that.
Eventually, the knights are defeated and the group is given access to the portal they guard, and after more trials, make their way to Kethenecia with all of their newfound allies, just in time to learn that the Legion is on its way with at least 1,000 ships to lay siege to them.
Richard and the others then depart to try and return the sand dragons to the defense of Kethenecia. They manage to locate the entrance to the cavern where the relic that controls the dragons is kept, only to have Cale eaten by a giant worm.
After much scuffling about and mayhem, Cale is rescued -- but not after he has his leg ripped off and nearly eaten by imps -- and they return to the surface, sand dragons in tow.
