Happy Holidays, everyone. Chloe here and this time on Chloe's Corner we'll be interviewing someone whose character has played a very big role on the site since day one. Today Chloe's Corner talks with the mind behind Miracle, Zira Firestone and Aries.
Introduce yourself to the people who don't know you.
Hey people! Y U NO KNOW WHO I AM? I'm da Zira, I'm 22 years old and I'm sexy! *does a sexy belly dance* Uhh... I love to RP and I love to treat it like one big improv. Someone starts a story, then another takes it from there and improvise with what's there. That's how it should be IMO. I also think it's cool when someone creative takes some liberties when something is vague to provide a few twists and turns. I absolutely HATE it when everything is planned and there are no surprises. It's good on occasion but all the time? BORING!
What inspired you to create the Miracle character and just how much research was required to get everything down correctly?
Back on a site called Ajerian Wars Ayen, Alexis and myself was entertaining the idea of a new continent in the midst of a war and I was inspired by the idea of a child warrior having to give up her childhood for the greater good. What was created became the prototype for Jherra and Jherrazad. We were originally going to have a war between Ranko and Miracle's forces on Ajerian Wars but that site died before anything could come from it and the idea was scrapped in favor for what ultimately became Dead on Arrival.
As for the research portion it really did help that both Ayen and Alexis were raised as Christians and insightful enough to answer a lot of my questions. The rest was mostly looking up verses they recommended I read then I Google the rest and from there Miracle was born. Now originally I was going to use the Childlike Empress, from the first movie, as my pic base but Alexis showed me some manga pictures of Little Neese from Record of Lodoss War and I opt to use her instead. Thanks, Alex!
When did you make the decision to steer Zira's Expo away from being based off roleplays on the forum to political satire featuring DoA characters?
I don't know if I would call it "political satire" but I more or less wanted to give my funnies their own identity than have them considered a Detachment on Arrival clone. I remembered little sketches I used to do with bathroom appliances while sitting on the toilet as a little girl (oh I went to a personal place) and the first sketch I did was basically Zira's Expo #7 just remove the deal about "D" and it's pretty much the same.
I also invented the Fall of Eternity back then, where I had an appliance walk off the ledge of the bathroom counter and bring it down to the ground before raising it up high and repeating the process and then the Poopman deal. I'm doing this while on the toilet handling my business so may as well have a Poopman character.
How did the concept for Zira Firestone and the City of Mortis, Zira's homeworld, come about?
After a bad falling out with Slayerfest2010 that Alexis and Ayen ran I made my own forum to uphold what I thought Role Playing should be. The problem with Slayerfest2010 is that while Alexis and Ayen were the admins it was basically ran by two no-fun, complain about every little thing they can think of, hags who took RPing way too seriously and bitched when anyone went off the guided plan. I wasn't a great admin but for a while it was fun. I basically had the idea of "what if" Dante lost to Mundus and Mundus merged the human world with the demon world? What if he had children he created under his command? And that was the whole premise of City of Mortis (which is Latin for death) and Zira's origin story. Then I lost interest and the whole thing died.
Did you ever think that Miracle would become as popular as she is on the forum?
No. I don't think anyone thinks that their character will become popular in creation. The ones that usually try to be popular are often hated. No. I just knew what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it and did it. The rest just came from that. It does get bothersome at times. Some people are so attached to the character that whenever anything bad happens I'll either get a PM on here or an IM on MSN going, "OMG what's going on? Not Miracle!" that it puts me off wanting to do certain things I'd otherwise do with the character.
Can you give us some insight on the development of the romantic interest between Maricul and Zira Firestone? How their feelings for each other came about, was it planned or did it just evolve during roleplay?
It evolved during role play. There was no real plan for these two characters to get together. It started out like all Maricul flings start out. Seduction, have sex and then breakfast. It evolved from that and much like real love, it's not something that can easily be put into words. Even Maricul is having trouble understanding her feelings and that's why she's afraid of them. I'm looking forward to see what happens from there.
If you had to choose between them; Miracle or Zira Firestone?
Ooh. That's like acting a mother to choose between her two daughters. I don't think I could. While Miracle is hands down my best character I put so much of myself into Zira and she's stood as my staple character for a very long time now. No. I'm not going to choose and you can't make me! *dies with them both*
What ever happened to Aries? Will we be seeing her again or was that an experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong?
Funny you should mention that. I just posted with her in the Crystal Expanse before answering this question. Aries is an experiment and currently has no real direction. She's a lot more shameless than my other characters and far more reckless. Because of that she's also more adventuress and fun to be around. For a while I just had no muse with her but I suspect you may see more of her in the future.
Excluding your own, who is your personal favorite character(s) on the forum?
Maricul, Amoura, Clash, Aminee, Kragen and yours. Maricul is without a doubt Ayen most developed and well-known character. She's so relateable these days that it's almost scary. The same thing with Amoura, only she was always relateable. Clash is just all around fun-fun-fun and I love all incarnations of him, Alexis' included. Aminee is a woman who has been through so much and the writer's ability to endure it makes it all the better. Kragen is an awesome character who is a man of few words and Chloe is sexy *ravages her* I mean... *pets her*
What's in your mind is the current stand-out roleplay thread going on right now?
Even though it's basically finished now, and at the risk of tutting my own horn, I would have to give that to the thread of the month "Come, My People" just so much happened in that thread it was overwhelming.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
You've been a wonderful audience! *waves and blows kiss*
