This is a question that crossed my mind as of late, and interrestingly enough this poll isn't about seeking anyone's opinion if I should make one or not but rather what are you guys' view on having a homosexual character in play - and perhaps your real-life views on the subject at the same time.
I'm basically a minority poster-boy. The only thing missing to my resume basically being born of colour. Otherwise I'm a french, gay, relatively handicapped kind of guy. So adversity's always been part of my life. Hilariously enough, sexuality has actually been the most forgiving issue as far as everything went but I understand that it is not the case in everybody's mind.
So for good or ill, come and share a piece of your thoughts on this.

Personally, I don't like to treat anyone different. I'm no better than anyone else until proven otherwise. I judge by actions and demeanor rather than handicaps or sexuality. I personally won't partake of the lifestyle, cause it's not for me and I generally don't like guys. Too much testosterone and too many pissing contests. But just because I don't do it doesn't mean it's wrong or worth condemning someone for, that's just stupid.
To the original question, I say go for it. It'd be interesting I think, but then I like to study people and their interactions, lol. (Gay Veran chasing Drake would be hilarious, imo.)

This wasn't about turning one of my characters gay so much as it was about me creating a new one XD
Your perspective should be really interesting because of your military background as well. Any experience on the force with out comrades, or were you under DADT at the time?

Lol, I know, but it'd still be funny to see him suddenly stop obsessing over Amoura and go after Drake.
DADT was in effect, so I didn't meet anyone openly gay. However, the majority of Airman I went through basic and tech school with had nothing against it. They thought like I did, that if they wanted to fight for their country and their rights, they should be able to. None of the people I hung out with, except the Roman catholic who lied more than anyone I've ever met, would have had any issues with a gay wingman. Hell, I would've welcomed one, I might have been able to get a girlfriend, lol. We did have a lesbian flight come through though, but that's a story best told in private.
As for the permanent duty personnel, they didn't seem to have an opinion on it either really. Maybe it was because of my career field, but the general consensus was "If they can do their job, and do it well, who cares what they do in their off hours?"

I think it would be interesting and fun all at the same time. There are far too many fangirls out there who are desperate to see their pairings come true in role plays and I grew tired of seeing it all the damned time. Especially in OOC chat... At that point I got sick and fucking tired of seeing homosexual characters on forums because guess what? 90% of them are played by desperate females. *facedesk* I have yet to see one played strictly by a male, other than Ayen, but we don't see Shinta actively interacting with other characters. I think Shinta is awesome because he's a genuine character that doesn't fulfill an OOC fantasty. Ya know? (Having you play a homosexual character would be refreshing since you're not doing it for "OMGTHAT'SSOKAWAIIDESUYAOIYAOILOL" but you'll actually make a character of your own design that'll add variety to the forum. You have a knack with doing that adding some spice, that is.)

I see no problem in the addition of a homosexual character. To be honest, when I first saw this thread, I quickly thought of this scene from Kung Pow. I dunno why, I just did. Like Amoura said, I really hate it when someone role-plays a homosexual character just because they have some fanatical obsession with it and they're pulling the whole "kawaii desu" thing when they don't even speak Japanese. It makes me mad.
I know a lesbian couple (who are the adopted mothers of a good friend of my brother, and are really nice people), a gay couple (who run the quilt store my mom used to work at, and are also extremely kind and fun to hang out with), and there's a publicly gay boy in our school. It's actually nice we have a smaller school environment, because most of the kids are really accepting of him, and he's hilarious to hang out with. So all the homosexuals I know are all decent and normal people, and it didn't occur to me that they were homosexuals until after I knew them for several years, and even then, I didn't think much of it. I don't see the big deal about it. I mean, hell, one my best friends is bisexual.
Go on ahead and make your character. I see no reason why anyone should try to stop you.

I think it would be very interesting to see you play as the mentally disabled.

That depends for me. Is the sexuality actually going to add anything to the character? As it stands now sexuality really hasn't played a big role on the site. Zira and Maricul are currently developing what could be described as a homosexual relationship and they have done a rather good job at portraying it as just any other relationship and not bringing any attention to the fact they're both the same gender.
If it doesn't add anything of actual relevance then I don't think a character's race, gender, sexuality, etc. should really have that much light shined on it. Just take Shinta for example. He was gay but he wasn't obvious about it. Mainly because his parents were heavily Conservative Christians and he couldn't afford to be. The only time he was really "I'm gay!" was when he was teasing some poor girl.
As an advocate of same-sex marriage I don't have an issue with homosexuality. What I do have an issue with is singling them out either for good or for bad.

I'm guessing lesbians don't count? Because Superwoman is kinda gay therefore I can't complain about someone else bringing in a gay character or I'd have to complain about myself. And I do enough of that offline.

Well I think trying to stop me has become somewhat of a theme for this board ;D Since I now NPC Dianne I believe this is my cue. Just give me a moment to get into character. *ahem* You suck! And you smell funny. We all know you can only play epic RPs, which is a problem for some reason even though you only do it occasionally, so we all know that this gay guy will probably have a power level of over 9,000! And a sex beam. A sex beam you would use to rape all the male characters with explosive sex! You'd be having sex and then by the end BOOM! The building would explode so I oppose your gay sex beam explosive sex, Veran. You suck!

We all know you're only making a gay character to get with Bane <3
Honestly though I think a lot of us would be intrigued just seeing you play a more down to earth character in general. As awesome as the Arashi and Tajna Rasha are they're a lot more restricting than some of the other characters we already have on the site.
That and I'm pretty confident you can kick just as much ass regardless. Throw Alex in there with one of her Average Janes, surround you both with zombies and just watch the lulz.
