The mountains. This wasn't how Utena envisioned her future but it was the situation she found herself in. Isolation. She was too dangerous now to mingle with the populace of this world. She couldn't even tell apart reality from illusion. Was she an illusion? In this world she was thought of as just a character from a very intense drama that everybody got their kicks from. Technically though it was all real. Or was it? In her world it was. If she was real in her own world did that mean this place was just a TV show back in her world? It didn't make sense. None of it made sense. Why? Why would some higher power do this? Was it a sick joke? No. Deities didn't joke they were usually very serious, and very cryptic to boot. So why? Why? WHY?!
Utena trashed the tent she had set up, wanting to take her anger and frustration out on the very first thing she laid eyes on the tent unfortunately, had to go. Finding a corner in the spot she picked out Utena curled herself up in a ball and started crying. Legs pressed up against her stomach and face buried in her knees. Utena missed Anthy. She missed Ohtori. She kept trying to convince herself that any minute now she was going to wake up and all those horrible things, including the bad about Ohtori, was going to be all in her head. She would wake up with a smiling Anthy to greet her and everything was going to be all right. But when her face lifted up from the knees she was still here. In the mountains. Alone with only her memories to comfort her.

“Wait up, guys!”
Shinta, Nex and June were hiking through the mountains when June, the younger sister of Shinta, found herself falling behind the two males who didn’t seem to want to wait up for her.
“Guys, wait up!”
June suddenly came to a stop on the mountain when she caught something out of the corner of her eye, that something was Utena. Turning her head to get a better look she saw the woman off alone by a camping site, crying. Concerned June began to approach the pink haired woman, wondering if that was a wig or a very convincing dye job. So far it looked natural as even her eyebrows and roots were coming off pink. To the best of her knowledge pink was not a natural hair color….
Of this world anyway….
“Hey. Are you okay?”

Utena's face pulled away from her knees and her seemingly innocent blue eyes looked up to the person that spoke but it was not June who Utena saw standing across from her, it was Anthy. Her eyes softened towards the female bringing a hand up to her cheek to caress as she felt a moment of eternal bliss, not caring if this was reality or illusion anymore but soon, soon Anthy was gone and Utena saw the brunette that stood before her in reality, quickly drawing her hand away and stepping back in shock. There was hardly any resemblance between this girl and Anthy except for maybe size and age.
Utena continued to back away, heading back over to the tent as she wanted to create as much distance between them as humanly possible, not wanting to harm the female that was only showing compassion for her. "Go away! Get out of here now!" Utena hoped she could scare the girl off while she still maintained some level of control over her sanity. Trying very hard to put her tent back up only to fail horribly at it. Tears of sadness was quickly replaced by tears of frustration as she fought to get this tent up after tearing it down barely half of a minute ago.

June started to back away as Utena came forward, getting the creeps at this sudden display of affection attempted by the total stranger. The girl soon stopped her advancement for June and stood there in surprise at her own actions before looking away. June only grew worry and more curious as to the reason behind her mannerisms and then surprised at how she was now being told to go away when just a few seconds ago Utena acted like June was some long lost lover of hers.
“What’s the matter? Why were you crying just a little while ago?”
June wouldn’t be so easily frightened by somebody raising their voice at her. With the things she’s seen the brunette found herself numbed to the many horror flicks being produced into today’s world. There was just no way to duplicate the real thing.
“I’m not going to hurt you. My name is June, what’s your name?”

So much for scaring her off, it was just Utena's luck too. "Do you always walk up to people you don't know and ask them personal questions?" If Utena couldn't scare her off then maybe she could turn her off by acting like a bitch. It worked before. She would rather someone think of her as a jerk and walk away than stay to talk and then watch Utena snap at random in the middle of a conversation because of her sanity issues. While all of this was going on she was still trying to put up the damn tent and it wasn't going any better than it was before. Moving over to its right she continued to try to rebuild what she destroyed, staring back at June from the corner of her eyes every now and again as most of her attention went into the fallen tent. "Not very smart."

June didn’t understand why Utena was being so mean to her. All she did was ask a question and introduced herself, if she didn’t want to answer it that badly she could have said so without the insult. Seeing how hard Utena was struggling with the tent she decided to ignore the rude comments and help her set up.
“Is this your first time setting up a tent?”
Without words June showed Utena how to make the tent and now it was all ready to go for her, taking a step back June returned her glance over to the stranger and just gave her a weak smile.
“I guess I’ll be going now….”
June turned around and started to walk away until….

"Wait!" If June turned around she would see a guilt-stricken Utena feeling like garbage for the things she had said towards the girl. Although her intent was a good one she couldn't help but feel that what she doing was wrong and didn't want to let the person go on such bad terms. "I'm sorry, June. I haven't been myself lately, can we just start over?" Utena hoped she wouldn't regret this decision, that her sanity would hold on long enough for them to interact even if only for a short time.
"My name is Tenjou, Utena." She still wasn't used to addressing her first name before the last. "I'm still fairly new here and with little money available to me I thought it would be best if I just found a nice reserved spot here in the mountains to crash until I can get back on my feet." Nothing but lies but hopefully June wasn't good at detecting those either. She couldn't unveil why she was really out here and she hope to God, or whatever dwells up above them, that June wouldn't reference Revolutionary Girl Utena.

June turned around and saw the guilt that was now plastered on the girl’s face. Many would have told Utena to “shove off” after their little back and forth thus far but June was far more forgiving than others at Moon Valley, which was just as much a strength as it was a weakness. Upon the introduction of the name June raised an eyebrow at how she said her last name first. Definitely not from around here.
“It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Tenjou”
With a smile June held out her hand to shake Utena’s. That smile soon transformed into a look of concern at the rest of the things the pink-haired girl had to say.
“What do you mean? Where are your parents? Are you here by yourself?”

"They're dead." It was so long ago, years in fact. She seldom talked about it. Their passing was her very first encounter with death and as a result it almost caused her to give up on life. Finding it all so pointless if death was inevitable. If it wasn't for her prince charming coming to her rescue on a white horse Utena would still be inside that casket waiting to die. To think it was all some person's entertainment. That a pair of eyes were actually watching that from their living room and enjoying her misery. The very thought sent an intense wave of anger shooting into her heart as she closed up her right hand into a fist. Just when she was about to cave into her emotions Utena found the will power she needed to endure and continue on with this conversation. "And I'm lost with nowhere to turn."

June looked on towards Utena with deep sympathy present in her eyes. It was a lost that she herself could not possibility fathom. The lost of a loved one. Of family. June’s parents were very much alive and loved her dearly. Even though they didn’t see eye to eye on certain issues, and she had to keep her bi-curious nature to herself, they were in her life and played an important role in it. It was something that she also, quite frankly, never wanted to understand as it would mean losing a loved one herself.
“I….”
June didn’t know what to say. I’m sorry? It wasn’t her fault Utena’s parents were dead. Then at the same time it felt insensitive not to say anything. These moments were always so awkward for June and she never knew what to say. Who did? Then it occurred to her exactly what she should do.
“Utena…. I would like to offer you a place to stay. I can talk to my parents about your situation and I’m sure they would understand and let you sleep with me in my room.”
It was the least she could do. Hopefully Utena wouldn’t be the proud sort who was offended by such an offer.

"No!" Utena unintentionally raised her voice in response to June's kind offer and she quickly stopped herself before she yelled at the girl any further. "Look I appreciate what you're trying to do but I can't accept." Utena wished she could explain but how do you tell someone you're a sociopath and a murderer to boot? There were just no words available that could make things easy for the girl to understand and she hoped deep down inside that June would just accept it and not ask any questions. The last thing the girl wanted on her conscious was another family's death and living in a house with one definitely gave her the opportunity to do just that. "Go home."

“But why? Why can’t you accept, I don’t understand.”
June was starting to get teary eye about this whole situation, why would Utena turn down help? There had to be a lot more going on here than met the eye but the question was, should she asked? Did she have the right to ask? Or should she just respect Utena’s decision and leave her there?
“June!”
“June!”
“June, where are you!?”
June turned around where the voices of Shinta and Nex were calling out for her and then turned back to Utena. She decided to give it one more try before alerting the other two to her position.
“Are you sure you won’t reconsider? It’s not safe out here alone and you can hardly keep up your tent.”

Good, people were looking for her, that meant this conversation would come to an end soon and Utena could return to her isolation from the general public. She would have to find a new space now that somebody knew where she was, couldn't risk the chance that either June or someone else would return for her. Utena could hardly bring herself to look into June's sorrow fueled eyes, feeling guilty for triggering such an emotional response from the girl, a feeling made even worst with how much the person reminded her of her beloved Anthy. She managed to look back into June's eyes only long enough to say a few parting words. "Trust me when I say it's better this way. Please don't come looking for me." With those words spoken Utena turned away from June and began to disappear into the woods to find a new spot to settle down in.

June was saddened by Utena’s decision but had no choice other than to respect it. Turning around June looked over to a concerned looking Shinta and Nex whose been searching for her for a good couple of minutes now.
“What happened to you?” asked Shinta. “What have you been doing all this time?”
“Who’s tent is that?” asked Nex pointing to the abandoned tent.
“It’s nothing. Just some camper I was talking with.”
Without warning June smacked Shinta and then started to walk back to their previous designation on the hike.
“What was that for?”
“For not waiting up when I called out to you.”
June went on ahead and the other two quickly caught up to her. As they resumed she couldn’t help but think about Utena and how much she reminded her of Tori.
The End
