The citizens of Moon Valley gathered outside of City Hall for their new mayor. Everything from the ones who voted for her, the skeptics and of course, the press. Police surrounded the podium that stood at the front of City Hall where Carari Grey would give her first major speech as mayor of Moon Valley. Many people felt that this was just the thing they needed to get back on track, others felt that she will never be able to fill the shoes of Mayor Luca Valentine, but everyone agree that they did need a leader of some sorts in the days to come, what with things growing more and more tense involving the tower and a certain “prophecy” that has taken the world by storm after the supernova.
Flash photography surrounded the area as the short woman with the pixy cut and black suit finally made her way to the podium after all of the microphones were checked. This was starting to remind her of being back home only it had nothing to do with the sport of professional wrestling. This was real life and politics at its finest. Little did the citizens of Moon Valley know that their precious former mayor, was the reason she was here, as in, sent. Carari looked out to the crowd, adults and teenagers alike looking up at her as the applauds began to dive down and the new mayor spoke into the microphones as this moment in Moon Valley’s history was being recorded by all the major news networks across the city for those unable to attend.
“Thank you! Thank you very much! In these days of anarchy and “end of the world” propaganda, it is good to know that the spirit of man is still unopposed to this very day. We must look to each other through these dark times ahead so we can not only clean up our own streets of those who would wish to spread fear and destruction to our very way of life, but to unite our very species against the beacon of chaos that lies up north. I would never attempt to take Ms. Valentine’s place in your eyes, but I look to continue the work she started for this great nation to the best of my ability---”
Tori Jacobs was among the crowd of people with her friends Shinta, Nex, June and Mary by her side. Lily Mayweather, the last person in their group, opt not to come as she had very little interest in politics and politicians in general. Mary was all too thrilled about having a Conservative in office, Tori was one of the many skeptics in the audience alongside Shinta, Nex and June.
“Who you think writes her speeches?” asked Nex.
“Writers,” replied Shinta.
“Very funny,” said Nex sarcastically.
“Shh!” Mary intercepted, “I want to hear what she says.”
“The woman’s a politician, what she says holds very little meaning.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Because I don’t have shit to do on weekends.”
“What do you think?” June asked Tori.
“I think time will tell if our mayor has Moon Valley’s best interests in mind.”
Up above one of the taller buildings, away from the eyes of the public was a man dressed in all black, a helmet plus visor covering his face as a precaution. A sniper rifle in his hand, the scope being lined up on Carari Grey’s position until it was aimed right between her eyes for the perfect shot. His finger inching nearer to the trigger on his rifle.
“Together we will prove to the rest of the world that we may be small, but our hearts will bring us---!”
The man squeezed the trigger and fired off a single 7.62 x 51mm NATO round sending the crowd into a frenzy.

Before the bullet could hit its target a hand extended out in front of Carari Grey and caught it, the fingers folding around the surface of the bullet and wrapping around within the palm, crushing it without feeling any pain or having anything to show for it as she allowed what was left of the bullet to fall down to the ground. The female to accomplish this amazing feat for all to see was dressed in red and blue tights, made complete by a red cape and a yellow symbol of a "S" on her chest. She looked over to the mayor and gave her a reassuring smile. "Mayor."
Kara looked up in time to see the sniper starting to run away from the building he occupied. Not content with letting him get away she flew through the sky, noticing the cameras from down below as she made sure to move faster than any cameras could clearly get a shot of her. Quickly reaching her destination, a surprised sniper began to back up as he raised up his rifle. "Hello! This is my first time." The sniper threatened to fire, clearly not being present to witness what she did to his last bullet. "Oh. I never seen one of these up close before." Kara stuck an index finger into the barrel of the rifle to jam it. "I imagine it's not going to be very useful now..."
The sniper dropped the rifle and then pulled out a knife, stabbing the tights wearing female only to watch as the knife's blade was shattered when it hit her body, both body and her costume remaining unphased by the stab attempt. Kara mocked the man with her facial features as she spoke. "I'm sorry to disappoint." The man dropped the broken knife and spun around to run but being faster than a speeding bullet enabled Kara to be in front of him by the time he turned around. "Going somewhere?" He turned to the left and there she was, turned to the right and there she was, turned again and there she was with a fist hitting him in the face and knocking him out with ease. "Sweet dreams."

The sound of the PSG-1 going off would’ve been the last thing she heard had it not been for the caped vigilante out of nowhere. Carari Grey was too shaken up to do anything except watch the stranger fly off into the air to go after the sniper in the area. One of the nearby policemen ran up to her side to check on her.
“Are you hurt?”
“G-get the shooter.”
She looked over to the policeman.
“Get the shooter!”
The man nodded and then led the officers on duty in the direction the flying woman went to catch up with the shooter. Meanwhile while other officers were rounding up the screaming people Tori and her friends were still looking up in awe with a couple of other people at where Kara had gone.
“Was that….?”
“Kara?”
What are you thinking, Kara?
When the police finally caught up they would be just in time to see the shooter knocked unconscious by the woman in blue and red. The head of the squad, James Gordon, aimed his pistol at the female while his men stood by for his word.
“Who are you!?”

Kara frowned when she looked at the gun the cop had aimed on her. That wasn't exactly the warm hero welcome she was expecting after her "big reveal" but she didn't blame him, he was only trying to do his job after all. "Just a citizen performing their civic duty, officer." Kara smiled towards the police and saluted them before turning around and dropping out of the window where she would once again take off into the air and fly away. That was amazing! Oh I hope Tori saw me in action, I know she was standing in the crowd! A stupid smile was now present on her face as Kara headed back to her home where she would be putting on her new disguise from now on. She had a nice pair of glasses with her name on it just waiting to be worn.

“This could be a problem.”
Carari Grey folded the copy of the Moon Valley Times and then looked over to James Gordon who was sitting across from her desk in the office.
“She saves your life and it’s a problem?”
“Gordon, what kind of city would this be if we let every super charged person who came around put the laws into their own hands? Her alleged “civic duty” was over with catching the bullet.”
“With all due respect, Mayor, we never would have caught up with the shooter had it not been for her help and as far as supernatural incidents in this city goes, this is a welcomed change from the attacks by zombies and giant metal sharks.”
“Giant metal what now?”
“Nothing.”
“Regardless…. if you see this “Superwoman” again your job is to arrest her on sight.”
“How exactly is my unit to arrest an individual capable of catching bullets and crushing them with her bare hands?”
“I’m sure you’ll think of something. In the meantime I want to focus on this shooter. I want to know everything there is to know about him from who he works for straight down to who held his foot while giving his prints on his birth certificate. Do you understand?”
“Loud and clear.”
Gordon sat up from his seat and shook the mayor’s hand before leaving the office. The speaker phone on Carari’s desk suddenly lit up as her assistant on the other line began to speak.
“Madam Mayor, your niece is here to see you.”
“My niece? I don’t have a---!”
Carari’s eyes fell upon the entrance to her office as she saw the immortal child known as The Genius standing there.
“Oh. Thank you, Ms. Cross.”
Carari ended the connection with her assistant through the speaker phone and looked over to Genius as she stepped into her office.
“Olivia, if Maricul wanted to wish me well a gift basket would have sufficed, you didn’t have to come all the way down here.”
“Your first day as mayor and already you’re being shot at?”
“What can I say? I’m fine by the way.”
“Maricul sent me here to make sure your priorities are still in check. We can’t have you being sidetracked by trivial matters.”
“I would hardly call someone trying to kill me “trivial” but whatever you say.”
“I’m not talking about your assassination attempt. I’m talking about your thirst for power blinding you to the reason you’re here. You are here to secure the dimensional rift into hell that’s sitting directly below you.”
“Well I always figured hell was centered below me.”
“This is not a game, Carari! If Beelzebub gets to that rift the Trial of Fates war is going to look like a goddamn Saturday Morning Cartoon Show in comparison!”
“I understand. No need to use the Lord’s name in vain, dear.”
“Since when have you cared about what is done to the Lord’s name?”
“I do have an image to maintain.”
“Ah yes, the right-winged conservative god fearing family woman. Very nice.”
“Thank you.”
“We’ll leave you to handle your “politics” as you see fit, as long as you remember why you’re here.”
Carari Grey simply nodded in response and went back to work as The Genius departed.

Kara happily skipped down the streets of Moon Valley wearing her brand new glasses and listening to her iPod while she headed over to a newspaper stand. She grabbed the Moon Valley Times and spotted a picture of herself on the front page, well a picture of a tiny little blur flying away from the scene, which was the best shot a camera could get considering how fast she was flying. Kara looked down from the picture and to the article itself, smiling at the chosen headline "Superwoman saves Mayor!"
Kara liked the sound of that. She was originally going to call herself Super-Girl but Superwoman sounded a whole lot better. Far more mature, though she had no idea why they chose to make it all one word. "That Superwoman sure is something ain't she?" Kara smiled over to the man behind the stand who just looked at her before turning around and going back to work. "Tough crowd..."

[Permission granted from Maricul ;P] That shooter knew something; but did he have the same knowledge? Slender, gloved digits flipped through pages of a tome, eyes quick to absorb the precious knowledge it had to offer: the suspicions she had of this mayor had been true to a certain extent but the depth of it was a shock. The tome was snapped shut and it vanished in a puff of smoke once she had obtained the necessary knowledge to understand this situation. It was time to find the shooter and who he or she works for. The jail was just down the street and it was jam packed with guards to make sure no one got in or out.
From within the prisoner's cell, the camera didn't short out but froze with an image of him still sleeping. The less suspicion there was of an intruder, the less likely Maricul will catch onto her along with the rest of her allies. The other technologies, however, did short out. "Wake up." Amoura grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him off the bed; the impact to the ground will rouse him from his sleep. He grunted, quickly sat up, shook his head and saw The Night Angel staring down at him. Whoever he was, he certainly had a lot of backbone to just stare at her with disdain.
"I'll be brief. Why did you try to shoot the mayor?"
The man remained silent.
"If you think I'm on their side, think again. I know the mayor is a threat. Now who hired you?"
The assassin quirked a brow but again, chose to plead the fifth. Amoura was not the least bit surprised but the way to the truth always was sweeter; wasn't it? He did manage a gasp of surprise when his arm suddenly was gashed by an unknown force and his blood streamed into the air like a ribbon. And to his disgust it was all ushered into his interrogator's open, hungry mouth. A minute ticked by while she digested the information she had taken in.
"Bruno Mannheim of Intergang? Interesting title." Amoura pulled up her mask. Unfortunately there was now a problem: he knew she was here and he could spill that vital piece of information if he breaks. Her silver hues stared down at him. First, erase suspicions of how he got that gash by forcing more blood out of it and onto the edge of his bed. It should look like he somehow managed to get that cut from that. Then, out of the blue, he fell over while grasping his chest. Amoura wasn't one to listen to death throes so she made her exit from the cell via the shadows.
When an autopsy is done, they will find his Aorta had burst for no reason and the unfortunate male bled to death internally in less than fifteen seconds. During those moments, the camera unfroze to reveal the gruesome scene of his demise.

A hand pushed the paper Kara was reading down as now the emerald green eyes of Tori was staring into the blue orbs of her best friend through the new glasses she was wearing, as if that was really going to be enough of a disguise. Like people wouldn’t see straight past it and know that the female standing at this news stand was the person everyone was calling “Superwoman.” Luckily for Kara no one made the connection yet but Tori was sure at some point they would. It took June and Mary no time at all and anyone else familiar with the hometown hero would ultimately come to the same conclusion. Tori made sure no one was within earshot of the two before speaking.
“What on Genesis were you thinking the other day, Kara? You go through the trouble of making yourself a costume and don’t bother with a mask!?”

Kara readjusted the glasses covering her eyes while looking over to her friend. That what people with glasses did, right? Readjust them every other second as they went about their business? By the time Tori was done speaking and Kara looked ready to reply she reached into her ear and pulled out the earpiece enabling her to listen to the music on her iPod. "I'm sorry, Tori, did you say something?"

Tori was irritated. Very, very irritated. She grabbed Kara’s arm and started walking along the pavement as she looked at her.
“Look I think it’s amazing what you did the other day with that shooter, you saved the mayor’s life and now the whole city knows you’re out there. For that reason it’s critical that you think about your secret identity more carefully. Did you ever stop to think that someone from your past who isn’t a friend could recognize and blow your cover?”

A faint smile appeared on her face as Tori was praising her actions from the other day. It always felt good to be appreciated but that was quickly followed up with more concern from the redhead. Pushing the glasses back up from the bridge of her nose it fell to, Kara tried to explain there was nothing to worry about. "As far the world is concerned Superwoman has no secret identity because she doesn't wear a mask." Crisis adverted, no one would go suspecting her of being Superwoman if they thought Superwoman had no secret identity. All she had left to do was just blur her face via superhuman speed for cameras and such. A mask just wasn't her and with the glasses she was hiding in plain sight. "So you don't have to worry. I thought this through."

Tori sighed. As reasonable as that plan was there was one very huge gaping hole in it that Kara has unfortunately overlooked.
“Come now, Kara, I know your hearing is better than that. What did I say from before? “Did you ever stop to think that someone from your past who isn’t a friend could recognize and blow your cover?” Your plan is moot by the fact that you grew up here and people already know what you look like.”

"Name one untrustworthy person who was aware of my existence before my superhero career..." Kara has always been virtually invisible outside their inner circle ever since early childhood, to the point where she felt like she really was invisible. No one would be able to make the connection unless they got a really good look at her and this place was filled with more new people that wasn't familiar with her than those that were so she wasn't worried. "I appreciate your concern but you can relax, Tori. It's my turn to look after you now."

Shades were lowered to reveal curious, chocolate brown eyes looking at sudden commotion that arose from a well guarded building. An alarm blared and guards were racing inside from the other side of the electric fence. A large bubble protruded from her red lips, popped and was brought back into her mouth. Whatever it was, it didn't concern this red haired woman.
Or did it?
After adjusting her small backpack, she began browsing through songs on her iPod while walking off. Shadows didn't exist when the sun was high in the sky and the sooner she got the files on the mayor, the better. The memories of Ranka helped her prepare for the situation; no evidence of her having been there will be found. What was stolen will raise alarms and increase security around the mayor. Fortunately the blame may shift to whoever was in league with that man with the absurd title.
Crowds were building and she blended in perfectly. Under an alias, 'Aleesha Mckennet', she rented an apartment and set up base there. To alleviate suspicions from any neighbors, she always made sure she returned home under this guise no matter the time, kept the curtains open during the day, often blared boy bands, watched TV, read books and just about anything a normal, care free girl would do in this town.
That was only during the day.
At night the curtains closed, she tuned into police radios but would hack into computers or other systems from other locations to keep her 'home' from being found. Newspaper articles about the mayor's speeches and other political moves were posted on foldable cardboard portions for easy hiding should anyone barge in. So, investigating the Spiral was she? Idiot. Fortunately this was in today's issue so she didn't have to be secretive about it.
Amoura sighed, rubbed her eyes under her sunglasses and lowered the newspaper to pull out a Snickers bar from her pocket. With most of her powers sealed off during the day, the need for blood was lessened and she required human food to keep her energy levels up. It was a nice change in pace for now.
Once night falls, there will be more work to do.

Why did so many of her friends have to be so stubborn? Nex, Lily, Mary and to a lesser extent Shinta. The redhead conceded, knowing there was no convincing Kara once she had set her mind on something. Hopefully no one will ever realize that Superwoman, which she had to admit wasn’t a terrible name at all, had a secret identity.
“So what’s the next step? Where does “Superwoman” go from here?”
