The .50 BMG got him right in the head. Blood splattered to his partner. He freaked out. Like he never saw blood before. Started shooting at nothing, ignoring orders from superiors to protect the shipment of goods scheduled for deployment in the south-western base of Isafaro. Kragen hid in wait reloading near a window. High up. He could hear the bullets from all the way up and the screams. The scope of the DSR 50 lined up towards the freaked out soldier firing in the dark and wasting ammo. He squeezed the trigger and watched as yet another man died right before his eyes. Never saw it coming but his position was compromised and the rest started shooting up.
Bright side? Isafaro's weapons were failing them. Weapon and equipment on the soldiers were falling apart no thanks to Kragen who spent the last couple of weeks sabotaging them as he did with the US troops in Iraq. All those hours of work and patience finally paying off. He looked through his scope one more time and fired off another shot, causing the shipment of explosives to go off. The blast powerful enough to rip apart the men nearby and knock the farther away soldiers off their feet. Setting them up for the army of hacked heavy mechs now moving in on their position. Justice. These men raped and killed several innocent civilians, now they were finally earning their dues.
The mechs slaughtered them all. Kragen now laid in wait for anything he could scavenged when he heard a noise coming from the lower levels of the building. Switching from the DSR 50 to the G3A3 he quietly and carefully made his way down to search for the source of the noise.

“You can put your weapon down I’m not looking to start a fight. Not with you anyway….”
The source of the noise was a barrel in the room that the woman had knocked over while changing position. She stood next to a nearby window going unnoticed by the soldiers outside who just had all out hell unleashed upon them. Good. The noir-haired female smile at their suffering before looking back over to the stranger.
“Nice work. I’m guessing their weapons falling apart wasn’t just an act of dumb luck either. My name is Imai, Imai Katayo and judging from your git-up you’re not a civilian.”
Imai looked back outside through the window.
“And you’re definitely not Crimson Vulture. I take it you’re new around here. What’s your beef with Vulture?”

Civilian wear but mind of a soldier. She was too calm in the face of bodies being torn apart and bullets blasting through mech shields and armor to be regular. Kragen didn't answer straight away and instead crouched down near another window on the opposite side of Imai and peaked out through it with the DSR 50's scope. Reinforcements had arrived but by the time they would be through cleaning Kragen would be long gone and they would find no traces of him asides from the .50 BMG which will be used to hunt down his weapon and him. He didn't plan to wait for them to finish that before making his next appearance. Kragen turned back to the Asian and answered her earlier question. "Oppression."

Clearly a man of few words.
“You and I have something in common then.”
Imai Katayo was born and raised in Isafaro, born and raised in darkness. From what her parents said this place used to be beautiful before General Koma Iz Vulture arrived and plunged everything into the blackest pits of hell. A place where everyone was oppressed in one form or another, the people with the most freedom were soldiers who proved themselves useful to the General. She herself was experimented on at a young age, something Vulture’s Research Team called a “Biotic” an experiment that manipulated dark energy in such a way they can lift them into the air, generate gravitational vortices to tear obstacles or enemies apart, or create protective barriers for themselves and so much more.
It was a feat made possible by nodules embedded in body tissues from the element manipulated by the energy. Bio-amps did the rest. It was their way of breeding a new evolution of modern day soldiers into their army but they were a failure. Many died of health problems, others went insane and ran off and the rest turned against their creators. Vulture and them soon found what they thought to be more worth while projects, dealing with the Biotics only when they caused problems. This Biotic was about to cause a lot of problems.
“What matter of oppression do you hail from, stranger?”
Imai was half-joking, with the ruthless tactics used against those men it made the Biotic think he was no stranger to oppression.

"America." Little emotion given in the answer. What little there was hinted at contempt. Kragen turned around while placing the sniper rifle on his back next to the G3A3 and walked over to Imai. Eyes of the gas mask looking down upon her concealing the old man underneath. It was his turn to ask questions, regarding Isafaro plans should she know anything of use. "Isafaro focus their stock to the south-western regions. Why?"

“America. Is it worse than here?”
Imai wouldn’t believe him if he said yes as it was hard to imagine anything worse than Isafaro but she was interested in his answer nonetheless. The Biotic turned her head just in time to see the man took a couple of more steps closer to her, asking questions about The Crimson Vulture’s latest plans. Imai could only think of one possible explanation.
“General Vulture is preparing for war. An opposing nation called Jherrazad could potentially get a footing into invading Isafaro if they take over the south-west. Increasing defenses in that area could hold them off long enough for their more “elite” soldiers to force them back. Something you’ve made more difficult with your sabotage.”

America better or worst? Depends on a few deciding factors: age, money, skin color, gender, sexuality, religion. He wouldn't go into all of that. Kragen merely said, "Selective oppression." and carried on. Meanwhile the soldiers outside was racking up the body count and investigating the area for any signs of what may have caused this. An inside job? The thought did cross their minds as they found the bullets belonging to the DSR 50. "Jherrazad?" Kragen repeated. "Friend or foe?"

Selective oppression? First time she ever heard that term used but it sum up what he meant nicely. Only a few people were oppressed due to particular qualities so in essence, better than here. In Isafaro you were oppressed all the same. Equality in oppression, how touching.
“If I had to choose which thumb to be under I’d choose Jherrazad every time but I’d rather have neither.”
Imai finally stood up from her seat, staying clear from the windows in case any of the soldiers outside looked up in that direction.
“My people have been oppressed for too long. It’s time somebody took a stand and be the voice for freedom. You’ve already expressed desire to help. Would you join me in fighting this oppressive government? I’d be willing to pay you for your services.”

Most recruiters asked for background information, this one didn't even ask for a name. They must have been really desperate. Understandable. Their position was a frustrating one. "Don't need payment. Need a way home." That was all he'd ask for, like she said he already expressed interest in helping. Why she offered to pay him anything was beyond him but he appreciated the offer. Their currency however would mean very little when he returned to his home in Iraq. "They'll be up here soon. We should leave."

“We should be able to arrange that. The tower north from here is said to be a gateway to other worlds if we secure it we should be able to get you home.”
Intelligence on the tower was very hush, hush, for obvious reasons no doubt. Even some of their best field agents didn’t know what the tower was, but information couldn’t be kept secret for very long. The other nations were well aware what it was and while many of Isafaro’s natives lived in the dark (no pun intended) it was only a matter of time before they also learned what that tower could do. Especially if they accepted Imai as their leader. Kragen suggested that they should get out of here and Imai had to agree but before she could utter a single word, a bullet flew past her and hit the wall. She turned her head in time to see a small squad of Isafaro troopers had found them and were firing.
“Damn!”
Imai quickly took behind some crates for cover and used her biotics to send one of the soldiers hurling into the air, they floated there for a bit, allowing someone like Kragen to get several shots in should he choose to before being thrown out the window.
“Looks like we’ll be a little delayed!”

Talked too long. Their mistake. Kragen fired off another .50BMG as the soldiers up ahead exploded and parts of the wall behind them went along for the ride. After that the ex-soldier went around a corner and pressed up against the wall for cover switching from the DSR 50 to the HK 45 and coming back around the corner unloading two .45ACP getting two more soldiers in the head.

Imai wished she had a weapon that could do that much damage which didn’t need the power of her biotics. It would be a nice way to reserve energy in a fight but for now the basic 9mm pistol in her pocket would do. As long as the bullets hit their mark. She quickly drew it and started shooting down more soldiers alongside Kragen as they crossed the threshold into the room but it seems every time they took one down, two more took their place. At this rate they were just wasting bullets and reserves.
“There’s no backdoor to this room. We’ll have to make a break through it while their defenses are weak. Just tell me when you want me to hit them with the good stuff!”

Make a break for it while their defenses are weak? Hit them with the good stuff? Kragen pulled out a grenade. This should do it, no biotics needed. He pulled the pin and then tossed the grenade at the entrance to the room right in time for the next batch of soldiers to be blown away. The ex-soldier pushed off the corner he took cover behind and made his way through the exit/entrance of the room before more soldiers could flood in on their position.

It turned out Imai should have asked him to use the good stuff as the grenade wiped out t he next portion of soldiers that were heading for their part of the building before making a run for it. With her 9mm pistol still tightly in her clenches Imai jumped over the crates and followed him out of the room and down the halls.
“I have a place not too far from here we just have to---!”
Her words were interrupted by the appearance of a chopper flying right outside the building, firing it bullets towards the two from one of the windows and forcing Imai to immediately take cover by jumping into another room and staying clear of any windows inside.
“Fuck my life!”

Kragen followed suit by jumping into the room on the opposite side of Imai. So the Vulture troops decided to bring out the big guns? But even for them this felt like overkill just to take down two foot soldiers, unless there was something about the biotic he didn't know about. Questions can be asked later. Now was the time to act. A chopper was only as good as its pilot. If Kragen could get a shot at the pilot then it would be all over. That was easier said than done however. While taking cover behind another wall, staying far away from the windows in the meanwhile, the ex-soldier began to think of a plan. It was insane. But it could work.
Kragen waited and when he heard the chopper moving in closer, the ex-soldier came out from the wall and jumped out the opened window, grabbing onto the ends of the chopper and hanging for dear life as the chopper tried to shake him off. No good. Kragen managed to get inside and it left the pilot defenseless, forced to put it on auto-pilot as now a hand to hand combat between soldier and pilot has begun.
