Personality: With a nearly narcissistic-aggressive personality type, Sebastian Shaw is utterly convinced of two things: his domination and power. Even at a young age, ambition for more was the defining them in Shaw's life. Though impoverished, his intelligence and drive allowed him to both be accepted to and graduate from engineering school, and later to found Shaw Industries, Inc, which he turned into a multi-national, multi-million dollar corporation. Shaw is also the definitive "life of the party," sure to dominate any conversation, but always quick with a joke and a laugh. He is never short of charm or sex appeal, and indeed places a high premium on sexuality in his life. He enjoys the finer things in life - expensive cigars, fine wines, beautiful women - and takes none of them in moderation. Stable relationships are rare for him, his drive for more and better and his unquenchable need to be the dominant squelching any real chance a relationship - be it romantic, friendship, or business - may have. The easiest of these for him to continue, however, is a business relationship, because it is rare that his dominance is truly challenged in this arena. Special Abilities: Shaw is a mutant with the unique ability to absorb kinetic energy to increase his strength, speed, and stamina to superhuman levels. This makes him extremely difficult to defeat in battle, as every blow struck to him only makes him stronger. Unusual tactics must be used to defeat him, usually by incapacitating him or by attacking him psionically. He absorbs the energy of any blow he is struck by, not just punches, but bullets, and to a less successful degree, electricity and physically based energy beams, notably Cyclops' optic blasts. Without absorbing energy he is merely a strong ordinary human, but normally Shaw works to keep his strength at a superhuman level. For example, in one instance, he was shown to spend time hitting a wall after waking in order to build up his power reserves.
Weapons: Sebastian is his own weapon. The pure strength he can create, along with his need to appear to the outside world as simply a businessman make weapons unnecessary. He is a fairly skilled fighter, although the blows inflicted by his words and political and business influence may be even more damaging.

He eventually became the head of Shaw Industries, a multinational corporation which is heavily involved with United States defense contracts and the production of munitions. Shaw was invited to join the Hellfire Club, the leading organization for the elite of society. Soon after joining, Shaw learned of the Club's secret Council of the Chosen, a group of members who, unknown to the others, conspired to achieve world domination through economic and political means. Through the force of his personality, Shaw became a probationary member of the Council, rising to the rank of Black Bishop. The leader of the Council, White King Edward Buckman, had the Council give considerable financial backing to Doctor Steven Lang's attempt to create a new series of mutant-hunting Sentinel robots. Upon the collapse of Lang's enterprise, Shaw seized the opportunity to turn the White King out of office. Shaw then became Black King, leader of the Council of the Chosen, which he later renamed the Inner Circle, and master of the entire Hellfire Club. As leader of the Inner Circle, Shaw worked closely with another leading member of the Circle, its White Queen Emma Frost. Shaw survived an attempted challenge to his leadership of the Circle by its renegade then-White Bishop, Donald Pierce. Shaw also survived an assassination attempt by his own son, Shinobi, at his Swiss chalet. Shinobi had long coveted his father's position in the Hellfire Club, and sought to usurp his father's role as the Club's Black King. Shaw was believed dead by the Inner Circle. As the Black King, Shaw continues his own plans to dominate the world through force, money, and power. His connections to top officials of corporations and government, acquired via the Club and through his position as Chief Executive Officer of Shaw Industries, make him a powerful enemy.
