When did things turn for the worse, when did he lose faith in everything he had held close to his boyish heart? When did he become...so cold and more cautious of his actions instead of rushing into things head first like he used to? Adam sat in his room, staring out of the window to the land that stretched before him, his mind at peace for once to give him some time to think of what had come to pass from here to now. He remembered his life before, when he was finally out of his own as a devil hunter, when things were so much more simpler then. A young hybrid kid looking to show both the world and underworld what he could do by taking jobs whenever they came around. It was easy enough to do, receive the job and kill the thing he was assigned to kill then pick up the pay afterwards, everyone went home happy.
He used his money to maintain his vehicle as well as to replace any tools he used in his hunts to set traps. He even remembered the food he used to buy with it, which brought a smile to his face. A triple cheese burger with Slim Jim, Tabasco, and many other hot sauces that would pretty much make the burger combust in his mind but that was how he liked it. It made him subconsciously lick his lips while he dwelled on the thought for a moment more, before he moved on to the rest of it. He had felt invincible in his line of work, never once thinking that he would need help or be found in trouble until he ended up in Domino City, the once place that gave him the hardest punch in the face reality had to offer him.
It started off like an ordinary set up, even found himself a nice clock tower to give him the privacy he wanted for his stay in the city while he worked. The first assignment he was given was one that he would never forget, because it united him with one of, if not this most, influential person in his life's story at that moment. It was a simple enough mission, pack of werewolves that were in the city's park and needed to be cleaned out which didn't take too long to do and afterwards he ran into her, Amoura the Night Angel. She was the first person in Domino City to actually greet him, and they even spent time together talking about each other which was great for him since he didn't get to meet many other Devil Hunters.
The times with Amoura were probably the best times he had, because everything went completely downhill the moment he met the next person. He had gone out that night, a small argument had happened between Adam and hew new friend and he wanted to get some air and clear his head before he talked with her again. It was then he met the Seductress herself, Maricul on a long stretch of road that had seen its fair amount of damage. Fog just seemed to roll in from nowhere and every fiber of his being told Adam that he should have left, gone back to the clock tower right then and there but no, no he fell for her charm like many before him had done. That would cost him his friend Amoura for a time, for once she smelled the woman's scent upon him they seemed to grow apart.
They say things happen for a reason, but to this day Adam couldn't figure out why what had happened next had to happen. He was in the park again, when he met a shadowy figure he didn't know but it knew him rather well. He picked at Adam's mind, making him experience the most twisted fear he had ever witnessed, the horrid image of Amoura dying in his arms before changing into a blood craving monster who had been through complete hell by forces unknown. Whatever the reasoning the figure had for doing what he did, it left Adam cracked in on the inside and the cracks only escalated as time went on. For his worse fear came true in a sense when he confronted Amoura upon a roof top, which he tried talking to her on and it ended with her flooding his mind with even more twisted memories, her memories of what she had been through, or at least a fraction of it before shooting him off of the rooftop.
That was when he decided he needed to go to the one place where he felt he could go to get stronger or at least try to and that was Hell. So much had happened in Domino City with him that by the time he had gone to hell, he ran into Amoura again who was different than the other times before. She seemed more concerned, innocent looking, and happy unlike the normal Amoura he knew. That was one of the last conversations he had with her, the two of them apologizing to one another for the misdeeds they had done and that their friendship was still strong. After that, Adam disappeared from the grid, training, hunting, fighting, killing, all to get stronger and better so that nothing like that would effect him ever again.
Now he was here, sitting in another world's castle instead of the Clock Tower he had for himself in the one place that he could call home, that one dark twisted hell hole that made him feel at ease with everything.
“...I liked the simpler times.”, the half demon mumbled to himself before bringing his knees up to his chest, wrapping his arms around them in an embraced before resting his forehead upon his knees. “No more dwelling on the past...that's not like the old me. The future is still ahead of us and I intend to face it head on, no holding back.”, he said smiling a bit before lifting his head, his eyes gazing out at the night sky again as a soft breeze rolled by, fingers dancing around the small vial of blood that rested around his neck as he thought back to those beggining days of Domino city once more.
