Physical Appearance:
Standing at only a little over five feet tall and extremely slim, Kenshin is often considered insignificant to others. With brilliant red hair that flows to his waist and bright blue eyes that oft hold a carefree and whimsical look, makes him seem only that much less intimidating. When in combat however, he’s been known to give his “death glare,” which terrifies many enemies from the sudden change from pacifistic to murderous rage. His most notable mark on him however, is the cross shaped scar on his left cheek, and it’s mystery has puzzled many people on his world.
Personality:
Carefree and fairly pacifistic, Kenshin is a kind hearted soul who would prefer that everyone just get along. He goes out of his way to help other people, and is fiercely loyal. Should the occasion demand it of him however, he will draw his blade and defend those that need his protection. He goes out of his way to also give his opponents a chance to surrender or walk away, because he doesn’t like hurting people or fighting them. He does enjoy long walks to enjoy the peace and quiet, reading and cooking. Living on the road for several years, he’s become a fairly proficient cook.
Special Abilities:
Planeswalker- A Planeswalker is a type of being that exists as pure thought, and takes on a physical form for convenience sake, to communicate with others. In order to become a Planeswalker, one must be born with what's known as a 'Spark.' This alone isn't a guarantee of becoming a Planeswalker, as that spark must be ignited somehow, usually through a vast magical explosion or catastrophe, which mingles the two energies and gives it a jump start. During the transformation, the physical body of the original person is destroyed and burned away, while the mind instinctively planeswalks away to safety. They reappear in solid form because that is what they expect to see when they do so, and it prevents them from scattering apart. Usually years are spent learning away from others while the Planeswalker travels and learns the full extent of it's abilities, each one usually becoming much more powerful at a certain aspect than other Planeswalker. Kenshin, as a warrior who was heavily grounded in speed and reaction times, was only further enhanced when he became a planeswalker, dramatically increasing his speed and reflexes. However, due to his immediate arrival on Genesis after his spark igniting and his ascension, he has yet to learn the full length of his abilities.
Hiten Mitsurugi Style- An ancient sword style that pits one against many, relying on extreme, “God-like” speed. There are multiple attacks to the style to suit almost any situation.
Phasing- The ability to become intangible. Physical assaults and barriers pose no threat or obstacle, but magical attacks are extremely effective.
Edit: This was a magical ability he picked up during his travels that he can use at will. It acts by removing him from the material realm for a duration of time that he chooses. Phasing basically removes one from existence while still being aware of what's going on around him, allowing him to return to reality in relative safety. The only thing he has to watch out for would be overlapping with a physical object which becomes fused with his body.
Life Blessing- An ability granted to him by a paladin order that increases his body’s natural regeneration, regrowing lost limbs if needed and sealing most wounds immediately.
Planeswalker Abilities-*Currently Sealed* Being a planeswalker grants its own special perks, however, Kenshin’s abilities have become sealed. They are the ability to planeswalk, to memorize anything just by looking at it, draw upon vast oceans of mana, change his shape and form, and incredible regeneration.
Edit: Planeswalking is the most common ability used by Planeswalkers. It allows them to travel from one point to another within the span of a thought. Not limited to a single point on a world, they use this ability to traverse the multiverse quickly and easily, unhindered by things such as dimensional locks. The ability to memorize anything is rather simple, it's the same ability as an Eidetic Memory, however he only requires a simple glance at something to memorize it. Planeswalkers also have the ability to draw upon vast oceans of mana to fuel spells or abilities. Normal, mortal mages have a certain amount of mana within their body that they can draw upon to use for the spells, and usually store more within specially enchanted items. However, as Planeswalkers are beings of pure thought that only take a physical form for convenience, they can draw upon much more mana than any other creature, especially given the nature in which they are created. Changing Shape and Form is another basic ability for them, since their form is malleable to their whims. As beings of thought, they can appear as any size, shape or creature as they choose. The final ability, the Regeneration, is also a by product of being a creature of thought. It isn't so much a regeneration as it is they merely replace the appendage that was removed, because there isn't any blood flow or anything to be worried about, merely keeping up appearances to make others more comfortable.
Dragon Blessings- Granted by the guardian dragons of Kamigawa, they allow Kenshin to increase in size and create a gravity hammer effect when he attacks.
Red Magic- A master of fire magic, Kenshin is extremely powerful with them when he chooses to use them, preferring instead to rely on physical strength and ability. Examples of spells are Fireball, Volcano, Laser Beam, etc.
Weapons:
Ragnarok- The Runeblade that Kenshin crafted on the Mori Tumulus Leyline in the heart of Yavimaya. This sword has seen him through countless battles, and has lived up to its name. It has many abilities, not the least of which is it’s extremely sharp edge which allows it to cut through any substance. Upon his arrival on Genesis however, the sword has vanished.
History:
Born almost three decades ago in the Sokenzan mountains, Kenshin was raised by his father, a local Yamabushi, a fighter specializing in combat against spirits, until his father’s death. He then raised himself alone in the mountains, before deciding that he needed to expand his horizons. He left the mountains sixteen years prior to the modern day, and has seen many adventures since then. As he descended from the mountains, he encountered a goblin tribe, and was forced to fight for his life. He proved successful, and resumed his wandering. Shortly thereafter, he came upon a small village being raided by ogres, and he set off in quick pursuit, determined to help the villagers. Little did he know the folly o that choice!
He followed the ogres back to their lair, where he crept along quietly, before coming into the open cavern, and freezing in his tracks, for when faced with a massive red dragon, it is a quite natural response. The dragon was the first to notice him, and he was once again forced to fight for his life. As luck would have it in his already strange life, faeries chose the time to raid the dragons den, and retrieve stolen items from their court. As they began to retreat, and definitely not wanting to be alone with a pissed off dragon, he dove through the portals behind them, coming up in the high city of the fey. Feeling merciful, they merely chucked him through a portal back to his homeland, popping him out in the land of Kitsune in Northern Kamigawa. He then wandered to the capital city, wanting to try his hand at becoming a samurai.
It was here in Eiganjo that he began his ascent to power and prestige. A chance meeting with one of the personal advisors to Emperor Konda, and a slight misunderstanding, gave him the opportunity to prove himself. For you see, slightly before this, he had met a man that was considered strongest among the swordsmen of the land, Seijuro Hiko. Master Hiko was willing to train Kenshin, only on the condition that he must find and return the Emperors stolen Jade Seal. Kenshin eagerly accept, wanting to learn the ways of the Hiten blade to defend his home. He was however, sentenced to death within a week unless he found the seal, as the advisor was quite unpleasant. With his life on the line, he was quite motivated to find the seal, and as the final day descended and with many questions behind him, he revealed the culprit and recovered the hidden seal. The thief was none other than Oda Nobunaga, the chief advisor to Emperor Konda. Oda was beheaded, and Kenshin rose to sit beside the emperor.
It was now, after proving his worth, that Master hiko was willing to train him. However, Master Hikos life was fast drawing to a close, and he would be unable to teach him all the ways of the Hiten. Thus, Kenshin set out once more, to ensure that he was able to recieve the proper training required to truly master the Hiten Style. He journeyed far and wide, before coming to Ashen vale forest, hearing of the Dragon Aspect Ysmira the Dreamer who might be able to help him. He was granted passage, and he presented his request before Ysmira. Touched by the selflessness and honesty in his request, she agreed, and summoned master Hiko. With her help, Master and Pupil entered the Emerald Dream, where they were able to devote twenty years of training, into a single night of rest. After the intense training however, Kenshin was mentally exhausted, and was bedridden for weeks, before finally being able to move once more.
With his unconventional mastery of the style, the previous Master was not slain, as is custom, but instead lived on, dying a few years later of old age. With his new found power, Kenshin remained for a time in the home given to him by Emperor Konda, a mile outside the capital city, and devoted himself to training. After a few weeks alone in his home, the Emperor summoned him, and bade him to use his home as a hotel for visiting dignitaries. Kenshin naturally agreed, and proceeded as thus for several months, until a set of incidents. Whilst out adventuring, Kenshin was captured by some Dragonborn Paladins for the slaying of a dragon, and deatined in a jail cell, devoid of his equipment. One of the Dragonborn was not as pure as the rest however, and took Kenshins sword, smuggling it away to a Pandaren ally, who after purchasing a few polymorph scrolls, invaded Kenshins hotel, and killed a dignitary.
When Kenshin returned home, he was immediately arrested, but given one week to prove his innocence and bring in the true culprit. Kenshin charged forth with a fury, and tracked the Pandaren for three days, before finding the city he had become holed up in, but circumstances prevented his capture, and Kenshin was exiled from Kamigawa. From there, he adventured far and wide across the other continents, meeting many people, and saving many towns. The highlights of his career involved the saving of Lut Gholein, a prosperous port-town from marauding bandits, (He was already a personal friend of the prince's from having saved him once before whilst he visited Kamigawa), finding a cure for the plague that had troubled Azeroth, creating a new city in the Moonsheas which he continues to govern, populating it initially by refugees fleeing Azeroth and all the strife. After a few years, he found love in a local woman who resided in Kamigawa. They met several times on neutral ground, before agreeing to be married. Through a nice little legal loophole, he became a citizen of Kamigawa once again, though he was generally disliked wherever he went.
A few more years passed as he adventureed and ruled his peacful trading town, before encountering a sun elf, and the two became firm friends. The elf was given lordship over the city of Vergessen, and ruled benevolently, when he was there. More often than not, the Steward Avec the White, companion of Kenshin, ruled in their stead. After yet a few more years, and much public service, Kenshin was requested to retrieve and artifact of some power for a mage of Dalaran in return for some golem sentinels for the city walls of Vergessen. Kenshin recovered the artifact, only to have it explode in his hands, and almost killing the noble warrior. He was snatched from the jaws of death by the mage known as Horazon, a powerful Horadrim mage. It was he who first recruited Kenshin into the Order of Light, a secret group of powerful mages, warriors and leaders that defended Dominaria from all that would do it harm.
Kenshin returned to his wanderings after his encounter, knowing that they would call upon him when needed. A whim sent him back to Kamigawa, and it was there that he learned that Emperor Konda had passed away. Kenshin stayed on to attend the funeral, as was requested by Machiko Konda, the soon to be empress. It was fortunate that he did, for in the midst of the ceremony, the capital city itself was attacked by a powerful mage leading four armies. Kenshin took up the fight with glee, utilizing many powerful artifacts that he'd accumulated in his travels, the elemental rings. He controlled thre rings at the time; Wind, Water and lightning, and he used them all to maximum, effect. Many soldiers were laid low by his furious onslaught, and he defend the royal samurai as the retreated to the castle to regroup. Kenshin himself fell back, needing to rest in the castle after such a furious magical assault, before setting out once more with the samurai to reclaim the city. After furious combat, Kenshin engaged the leading mage himself in combat, and had to battle for his life. The mage was like he, a warrior mage, a spellsword. Attacks both physical and magical flew, the mage having the upper hand from his powerful weapon, containing the spirit of an elder demon.
As the death blow descended towards Kenshins heart, an act of desperation saved him. Adrenaline surged him to new heights, and he managed to deflect the blade, countering with his Hiten style, slaying his enemy. As the mage fell, so too did his powerful magic over Eiganjo, and the four armies quickly retreated from the field, having already suffered heavy losses. Kenshin, along with one other samurai who had been of great help, were recognized as great heroes. Kenshin was granted an increase in land, a horse ranch, and given the title of Ishi-Nari, the right hand of the Empress. From there, he continued a long and illustrious career until modern day. The highlights being the Battle of the Lich, where he and his sun elf companion held off the legions of the undead, his accidental release of the spider queen Lolth and subsequent resealing of her. He traveled to other planes of existence and back again, bearing new tales with each passing day. He had become single along his road however, his wife dieing in the battle of the Lich, and continued his solitary trek. He saved the realm of Celestia, contained within the artifact known as Tempest, the former core to the skyship Weatherlight. He battled demons alongside Angels, and joined forces with the forest of Yavimaya to do battle against the Phyrexians who were planning a mass exodus. He will occasionally return to the plane of Phyrexia, now a great nuisance to his once close elven friend, who is now a powerful phyrexian creature. He saved the city of Ogrimmar, resurrected a planeswalker, battled drow and unholy creatures of all nature. He continues his illustrious career, currently defending Dominaria, a lonely guardian with no true home to call his own. He has cut ties with most of his lands, and now fights to protect the world from all evil, as his former comrades in the Order of Light have begun to disappear.
Most recently however, he was forced out of his somewhat peaceful retirement, having at long last settled down in his estate outside of the city of Eiganjo. The Order of Light had contacted him, revealing that they were not in fact gone, but had been working diligently. They had word that Yawgmoth, dark god of the Phyrexians had been reborn, and was moving his forces to invade Dominaria. Immediately he took up his sword and warned his Empress of the impending war, and charged forth across the continent, heralding the dark armies advancement. Some listened, others ignored him, and when the day for battle arrived, no one was prepared. The advance force was ten thousand battle cruisers strong, hoping to just obliterate life from orbit. This was new technology that none of them had ever encountered, but with the help of a few friends, and quite a bit of luck, Kenshin managed to decimate the advancing force, before being forced to the ground, in which the main army of biomechanical horrors had begun their destructive sweep.
He battled long and hard, watching countless friends and allies die. His country went down in flames, consumed by the dark army as one of its greatest heroes gave his life to destroy the army on their soil. Yavimaya was burned and rotted out, the ancient forest destroyed and blighted, the spirit of Gaia sacrificing his life to help transport more refugees onto a new plane where they could rebuild. He travelled to the Shard, the center of the multiverse where the planes travelled, and stopped Yawgmoths plans to destroy them all. It was then learned that even if they had stopped that plan, another close friend dying in the process, their plane was about to collide with another that would destroy it. The angelic realm was sacrificed by the angels in order to save Dominaria, and Kenshin had finally had enough.
The deaths and blood had taken their toll on the warrior, and he went into a rage. He laid siege to the might fortress of Yawgmoth himself, slaughtering the forces between him and that dark god. His one time friend was there, who’s life he’d saved countless times and who had betrayed all of them to these monsters for power, and he stood at Yawgmoth’s right hand. His eyes burned with anger as he challenged Yawgmoth to a duel for the fate of his world, and laughing, the dark god accepted. He arose in the form of a massive black dragon, armored in diamond strong scales that blasted decay and rot from his massive maw. Unafraid, Kenshin charged forward, Ragnarok, his mighty blade, flashing in the fading sunlight as twilight fell. He gouged a furrow across the dragons back, barely avoiding death from fangs as big as swords, rising up beneath the massive jaw with a fierce roar, slamming his blade up from the base of Yawgmoths jaw and into his brain, his planeswalker spark igniting within him, fueling him with even more strength. However, knowing that Yawgmoth could still escape, still slay him, he enacted his final, and only, option. He wore a pair of battered bracers on his arms, a gift from the late Lord Windgrace, and he activated their magic. Using his soul for its, now the soul for a full Planeswalker, a mighty blast destroyed Yawgmoth, scouring his army from the face of Dominaria in the process, and the blast would have cast Kenshin into oblivion. However, something happened at that time. Instead of his soul being destroyed, he was cast head long into a void to arrive on a new world of Genesis. He’d assumed he’d been rescued somehow by his Order, but it was not to be. This was a new world, full of new people and threats. He was heavily battered, his sword had gone missing, and he was so tired. He rose to his feet however, and began his journey once more, into the unknown.
