William remained silent as the casket was lifted up and opened making way for his most powerful servant to enter the fray. Watching the smoke leak out of the coffin and cloud the room, almost shielding them from the approaching Las Plagas who were just ordered to release everything she had against the small group. It was now turn for Drake to give his order.
“What a lovely nap...”
William didn't respond to the sarcasm. His eyes also never wandered far from Las Plagas and her surroundings. Watching how the parts of the floor was lifted up and then shattered. How objects fifteen feet away turned to ash with each step. He wondered how far that barrier could go. Soon they'd have to back away but there was only so much space in this dungeons to begin with. If they weren't careful they could find themselves cornered and at the mercy of the demon child.
“What's this? A present?”
“A test of our employment. You're to apprehend this creature alive. Understood?”

“To be dragged around in such a small cramped space. How's a girl ever to get her beauty sleep?”
Maricul mused to Drake. Not expecting an answer from the yellow-white headed man as he was all business. Like usual. The vampiress took a whiff of the air around her. In addition to her master, the slave and the demon there was one more scent in the room. That of another woman who's blood felt as strong as her master's. A smile creeping up on her lips while brown eyes looked the female over from head to toe. Needing only but a second to record her image and smell to memory before listening to her master's command.
“A test of our employment. You're to apprehend this creature alive. Understood?”
“As you wish, Master Drake.”
Maricul took a step forward towards the demon. She too could sense the barrier that stood around the child and her eyes observed what it did to the ground it passed. Still being a moderately good distance away from the child the vampiress came to a stop in her walk. Arms at her side and a small smile still on her lips. Eyes flashing between brown and blue in her excitement as she waited for the being to make a move.
“A demonic barrier that eats away at everything and anything it touches, forcing your enemies to stay at a distance. But even fighting you at long range is a futile effort as all your enemies attacks will crumble into dust and all you have to do is walk towards them making creepy faces from your tiny little bubble. You are without a doubt...
The laziest demon I've ever encountered.”

Las Plagas watched as the casket nearby was hoisted and opened, releasing a young looking woman clad in black and blue to face her. Still the demon child's advance showed no signs of slowing down until it saw the woman stop and heard the woman talk. Causing the demon child to stop in turn and tilting her head at the vampire. She wasn't showing any fear or any signs of intimidation towards her. It has been eons since the demon has had anyone mock her, to take the unique abilities that made her what she was today and throw it back in her face. Whether the vampire could back up those taunts, or they were just empty threats from another target destined to fall, one thing was certain to the beast now.
This was going to be fun.
From the sides of the dungeons came a group of chains that were once used to bind other prisoners that rotted away in this dungeons in the past. They came towards the vampire's feet and in an instant wrapped themselves around the arms and legs of Maricul, taking a firm grip of her chest and waist and hoisting her up into the air as if she had just been crucified. The bars that rolled across the dungeons floor shot up through the air by force of will, impaling the vampire that was being suspended in the air. To make matters worse the bars themselves were made of pure silver and blessed by the Xanarnis' church. The President didn't mess around when it came to imprisoning her monster.

Maricul could deduct that from the chains now wrapped tightly around her limbs and waist and the cage bars that now impaled through her body like a bunch of spikes from Dracula's castle that Las Plagas didn't take too well to being called lazy. Anyone else would have been a goner if they found themselves in this position but Maricul wasn't like anyone else. While she hung suspended in the air by Las Plagas' power like a Christmas decoration a cackle escaped the vampiress' throat, that cackle soon turning into a dark, twisted chorus of laughter as she broke through the chains and landed back down on the dungeons floor. The bars being pushed out of her body by her regenerative abilities and the wounds quickly healing over in spite of the extra damage caused by the silver and the blessings.
“You're gonna have to do a lot more than that if you want to put an end to me!”
Maricul lifted her right hand up into the air and materialized a Dark Scythe in it through her power. Grabbing a hold of the handle with both hands and charging towards the demon. Stopping exactly where she felt the barrier to be and then twisting around – one would have thought that given her height the vampire would be unable to accomplish such a feat, that the polearm wasn't her weapon and yet here she was, twisting her body around as if she was the right height and not slowing down an inch – bringing the back end of the scythe towards the entrance point of the barrier to watch what it would do more closely once it came into contact with it.

Las Plagas silently observed the creature as she cackled in spite of the pain now surging through her unholy body at the presence of the pure silver blessed bars of the demon child's cage. Her eyes scanning over the wounds the bars had created, watching them force out the steel bars as if the body had a mind of its own and then closed the opened wounds. The blood pouring back in beforehand. It was an interesting sight to behold for the demon child. She wasn't used to facing creatures that could regenerate. While Xanarnis' enemies were strong foes once you got a scratch on them they couldn't just shake it off. Such fragile things they were at the end of the day. Not like this vampire. The demon didn't even know if she was capable of healing. No one has ever managed to touch her. The barrier had made certain of that. And nothing could pass the barrier. In a way it was a pitiful boring existence. Never knowing pain, never being able to be freed of the shield all around her. Would that freedom come with Maricul?
Las Plagas continued to only observe while Maricul charged with a scythe in hand. Twisting her body around as if she were fit for such a weapon. Intriguing. That was another thing Las Plagas has never used. A weapon. She had no need for one with the barrier in place. To think of all the things she has never came to experience. And she was no young demon by any stretch of the imagination. A sense of envy could be felt coming off of the demon as her eyes watch the end of Maricul's scythe pass the barrier. A part of herself wanting the vampire to defy the barrier and inflict damage on her. But it was not to be. The demon only frowned as the scythe began to crumble and turn to ash. The ashes of the scythe's end touching the floor by her feet. Her eyes gazing hauntingly into Maricul's while moving the barrier forward. If Maricul didn't retreat now she would not only lose her scythe but her entire body to the barrier.

Maricul observed the end of her scythe turning to ash and falling inside the demon child's bubble. The ashes remained and did not dissolve while inside the barrier as the vampiress had thought it might. She was quick to move backwards to remain out of reach of the barrier. Reaching her hand up to the sickle on her polearm and detaching it, turning the scythe into a hand sickle as she discarded the polearm.
“Come on then. I haven't got all day. Show me what else you can do.”

William never moved from his spot by the casket and his servant. Maricul insistence with using a scythe and wasting energy to wield it as if she was the appropriate height had irritated the man but at the very least she would reserve energy by using a polearm with a detachable sickle and he couldn't argue the results when she could go all out with such a deadly weapon. Doing his own observation of Las Plagas' barrier Drake had a good idea what Maricul was leading up to and made his next command accordingly.
“Maricul, execute level two release.”

Maricul would feel the cool air of the dungeons wash over her where she stood. The air soon freezing as the demon child continued her walk. Layers upon layers of ice began to form around the vampiress' body quickly. Threatening to conceal her within it and freeze her in place where she could do nothing but wait and watch horrified as Las Plagas came for her. The barrier inching ever closer to her feet.

“Maricul, execute level two release.”
“Already, Master? Very well.”
The blue pentagram on the back of her gloved hand glowed acknowledging Drake's approval as more of the vampiress' power was released into the air. The same air that was now being used as a weapon against her. Maricul only smiled towards the demon as she was frozen solid in ice. The water inside being drained through the vampiress' magic and then the ice itself cracking and crumbling into pieces. With no water there was nothing to flash freeze and the shard of ice was soon hurled into the barrier being reduced to ash.
“Un uh. Not this time.”
Behind Las Plagas, in her shadow were a pair of dark blue eyes. Blue eyes belonging to an ink black cobra that emerged from the child's own shadow. Its body becoming as sharp as a blade and slicing through the flesh of Las Plagas from within the safety of her own barrier.

Las Plagas was taken entirely by surprise when the shadow sliced through her flesh and blood came spilling out of the wound. A shallow scream. No one in Xanarnis has ever heard her scream before. Cries of agony bounced off the dungeon walls and those present would be granted the honor of hearing those cries as pain shot across the demon's body for the first time in only God knows how long. But as quickly as the cries left her throat, laughter soon followed. A laughter so innocent in design that any who heard it never could have guessed that it came from a monster amidst the battlefield had they not seen it with their own two eyes. A laughter as beautiful as it was terrifying.
Maricul bestowed Las Plagas with the greatest present of all. The gift of pain. She would never forget it. This moment would remain locked away in the demon child's mind for all time. She would look back on it with a smile while remembering how the shadow had cut through her flesh like knife through butter, remembering the blood that exit her wounds and stained the cold dungeons floor. And remembering how the shadow was destroyed as soon as the barrier closed in and reduced it to ash before stretching back out. The wounds created by the shadow healing over as now the child was more alert. So she could heal. Las Plagas had learned something new about herself and assuming this battle carried on she was curious to see if she'd learn anything else while continuing her walk towards the vampiress that opposed her.

“Don't tell me you've had enough already.”
The vampiress watched as Las Plagas felt pain for the first time in her demonic life, she watched as the wounds created from the shadow was healed over and the shadow was destroyed with the closing in of her own barrier. Maricul had found a loophole around the demon nigh penetrable barrier and that was all the vampire needed.
“Good. I see your body hasn't forgotten how to heal.”
More shadows formed from inside Las Plagas' barrier, taking the form of blades and slicing through her body, this time not giving her enough time to heal as Maricul kept her distance from the barrier.

The shadows slashed through her flesh but she kept moving, it was all she knew how to do. The barrier had acted as her defense for centuries. She didn't know how to fend against an enemy that could breach her barrier. Other than what she did before. Bringing the barrier to just a few inches around her body, she destroyed the shadows that came through and left little room for anymore to be summoned. Allowing more room for Maricul to maneuver as Las Plagas froze the air around them, creating pillars of ice that were hurled in the vampiress' direction. Screaming at the vampire.

William drew down the exact rune he had memorized while Maricul did battle with Las Plagas and then held it up above his head, using his own alchemy to cause the rune to glow and threw it like a seal towards Maricul for her to catch and use on Las Plagas.

Maricul charged head first into Las Plagas, which for all intent and purposes were insane but the vampire was already one step ahead, evading the pillars of ice that was thrown her way with her speed as the seal by William was caught in her hand and she swung it out like a weapon against the barrier of the demon child.

Las Plagas continued to walk forward, not caring that her ice pillars had missed the target. The vampiress was insane to charge head first, even without the barrier that was a dangerous and reckless move to perform. The demon spread out her barrier and looked to end this battle right here but that was when Maricul took the seal drawn by William. Las Plagas thought nothing of it at first until she recognized the symbol and her eyes grew wide in shock and amazement as the barrier was breached and Maricul came in cutting through her flesh with the hand sickle making the child scream in pain.
