The captain couldn't stall any longer, after repairing the damage from the previous battle with the Crimson Vulture Yalea and her crew returned to orbit around Genesis so Yalea and an away team could beam back down to the tower to discuss what Q would have them do next. When they arrived however...
“Captain, I'm detecting a powerful abnormality coming from the planet surface,” said the pilot.
“On screen.”
Yalea stood up out of her chair while looking at the wings of light shooting out of the planet and through the nearby moon.
“What in all the galaxy is that?”
“Whatever it is it's coming right for us, Captain,” said the operations officer.
“Impact in ten seconds,” said the tactical officer.
“Evasive maneuvers now!”
The ship dove down to avoid the stream of light that almost touched it and then flew out a safe distance away from the planet while the officers on the bridge continued to scan the abnormality.
“Can we beam down from here?”
“No, Captain. The ship is too far away to beam down to the planet surface.”
“We can't get any closer without risking more damage to the ship. I'm taking an away team in a shuttle craft to land on the surface. Keep me posted on any findings you get from the scans.”
The Captain left the bridge and went down to the hanger where the shuttle crafts were. They entered and then set out from the ship's port and maneuvered their way through the streams of light and down to the planet below. Landing on top of the Downward Spiral and opening up to allow Yalea and the away team to exit. She looked up to the sky able to see the lights all the way out here. Something was wrong with the world and she needed to find out what.
“Q!? Q, we're here! Show yourself!”

Q appeared in a flash of light, still in his usual attire of a 24th century Starfleet command uniform, in a Galaxy-class Captain's chair. He grinned and smiled at Yalea, obviously still elated about her decision.
"Hello again, my captain. Did you have fun up there with that ship? You quite clearly made it out in one piece. Though I was somewhat hoping you didn't. It would have been spectacular to watch what would happen to your ship with those light beams eschewing out to embrace your ship.

“Q.”
Yalea approached the alien while the rest of the away team wasn't far behind, remaining alert of both Q and the streams of lights that appeared to be everywhere on the planet.
“What are these beams of light? What's happening to the planet?”

"Beams of light? You mean these?" At a snap of his fingers, a disco ball appeared in the room, and the Bee Gee's kicked in at full. Q suddenly had an afro, was in platform shoes, and had a proper hangglider-collar, bell bottomed, spangled and shiny disco outfit. He danced for a bit, then everything returned to normal, and he back in his captain's chair. "I have no idea."

"Beams of light? You mean these?"
“...”
The captain could only stand there and watch irritably as Q traveled back to the 1970s. Waiting for him to be finished with his games before continuing. Based on everything she read about him this was the norm.
"I have no idea."
“Then let's get down to business. What is it you want us to do first?”

First off, I want you to figure out who is in power and what their intention is. Find out who and what is the most powerful being in this sector. I've felt a lot of strange nuances from the area. In fact, several that I knew were already quite powerful. Be on your guard, Captain, and please don't get into fights every moment. There are things that might even rival me in power. The more you learn, the more I can figure out what goes on here. Eventually, I may be able to provide you with the necessary tools and plans to be able to counter things here and keep yourselves and your ships intact. I just... don't know what's here yet. His tone was completely serious, as if the Disco Inferno hadn't happened at all.

Yalea turned her head and looked out to the overview of the continent below. Seeing the many different skyscrapers of Kari and Isafaro further out in the distance, as well as what appeared to be a crystallized area next to a desert and when she turned to her right she saw a slightly less advanced city with a cathedral among other things and then mountains when she turned around from there. There was a lot of ground to cover but luckily long range sensors should be able to make what would have been a long search go a lot smoother.
“Anything else?”

"Yes, actually. I noticed your ship is... not equipped well for this kind of mission. I mean, even for Federation standards. If I recall, they were used even during Kirk's time. As great as that must've been then, you're out gunned here. I think you need a better ship. What say you?

“She held her own fine so far.”
There was a taste of offense in the captain's mouth when she said that, over time she had grown certain attachments to the ship she had been given by Starfleet command despite its dated use. But she quickly pushed that aside as now was not the time to let such attachments get the better of her. It'd be illogical as a certain Vulcan in her crew would say.
“What did you have in mind?”

Miranda-classes are incredibly outdated. I was thinking with a bit more... umph. At least a Galaxy-class. You don't have the sensor packages nor the firepower to really survive. That thing you fought was... not that strong, surprisingly enough. I mean, not even Jean-Luc could handle a single Borg Cube. What makes you think your flimsy little can will do much better against other ships here? I mean, even that little speck of a fighter had more relative power.

“I get it – the ship's no good. If you have it in your power to equip us with a vessel that is better suited to the mission you have assigned for us then please feel free to deliver it.”

Excellent. Though, you will have to get crew. Messing with the actual existence of living things is why I can't do much. How many do you have on your ship, or would you rather me ignore the numbers and just give you something fun?

“There are two-hundred crewmen aboard my vessel.”

Excellent. Exactly what I was hoping for. Q snapped his fingers, and nothing happened down on the planet. Your ship is now an Intrepid-class Science vessel. Should give you the abilities you need to endure for now. Work on getting more crewmen, or less should things happen, and I could give you something different. Oh, and, Again his fingers snapped, and Yalea's uniform became that of Janeway's of the time. I think that outfit makes you look pretty.

"Excellent. Exactly what I was hoping for."
Yalea watched Q do his infamous snapping of the finger trick and of course nothing happened down here, but she was sure the people waiting for them back in the stars above were taken by surprise by the sudden change in ship design while they were still inside of it.
"Your ship is now an Intrepid-class Science vessel. Should give you the abilities you need to endure for now. Work on getting more crewmen, or less should things happen, and I could give you something different. Oh, and,"
Before Yalea knew what hit her she was suddenly in a different captain's attire with a more red color scheme, which honestly went with her hair a lot better than the gold did on her previous uniform. The captain didn't want to admit it with Q standing right there but...
This was an improvement.
"I think that outfit makes you look pretty."
“I feel like a Barbie doll.”
Yalea pressed her combadge to contact the ship's bridge to ensure everything was running on the up and up.
“Captain to Midori.”
“Yes, Captain?”
“Is everything all right up there?”
“It's the ship, Captain. It's completely changed.”
“Intrepid-class Science vessel, am I right?”
“Yes, Captain. How did you–?”
“Q. As you were.”
Yalea pressed the combadge again to end the conversation.
“I'd say the people behind that Vulture ship that attacked us in orbit will be a good place to start. It seemed the entire ship was run by an A. I. despite the crewmen on board.”
