Tori and the others couldn't believe it. Not only did the trees talk but they had eyes, noses and mouths so they could see, smell and speak... English!?
"Sorry. Didn't mean to wake you, we were just passing through. I'm Alexis Malaware history professor and these are my students; Jacobs, Greenaway, Mayweather, Nex and Thomas. Say hello to the trees class."

Tori turned her head over to where The Professor were standing.

Alexis looked over to her students confused why they were upset. Lily summed up what she was going to say and The Professor didn't stop to think they may take issue with their minds being altered to understand other languages. She thought they'd be happy.
"I didn't mean any harm by it."
“Do you have a name?”
"We are the Silva. We have no other name."
“Um, Professor... Doesn't speaking with the trees alter history?”
"We're fine, Ms. Thomas. Don't worry."

"I'm certain. If we were to disturb their habitat we'd be in trouble but as we're just talking there is nothing to worry about. Now relax and enjoy yourself."

"I imagine so we can communicate with species like yours that we cannot sense and defend ourselves when necessary."
“Can you move if you wanted to?”
"Yes. If we needed to travel to a new home we need only to pull our roots from the ground and begin walking."
“Carry any little people of late?”
"If you mean the little creatures of the ground and air, then yes. We allow the creatures of the air to build homes for their young in our branches and the creatures of the ground to live inside of us. They are a part of nature as are we."
"The beginning of trees long lasting relationship with birds and squirrels. Enough to hit you right here," said The Professor bringing a closed fist to her heart. "And here," she added bringing her fist to her second heart.

"There are the natural predators of the creatures who live among us but we have not been targeted directly. However, the Creator has provided us with the means to defend ourselves regardless so that if the day comes we will know what to do."

Suddenly, Alexis clapped her hands together to get the class attention.
"As much as I love this conversation I am afraid we have to get moving. Come on, class! Chop, chop!"
Alexis turned around and began to lead her class through the rest of the forest.

Tori and the gang waved at the trees and said goodbye before following the professor through the rest of the forest, quietly going over what they had just learned from the trees as they went along. Mary always thought that a deity spoke through you in such ways she just always thought that it was Yahweh. Tori, Shinta, Nex and Lily, on the other hand, always thought it was hogwash, but it was apparent that they had been wrong all these years. It made the four wonder what else they have been wrong about. |

Alexis led the class out of the forest and into a herd of Triceratops that stood near a lake made complete with a waterfall. The Triceratops were twenty-six feet and tanned with the children being much smaller in size when compared to their parents, and the herd paid them no mind as they continued walking.
"Say hello to the first herd of Triceratops to have ever existed, class. Beautiful creatures from their long, narrow beak-like snout to their three horns and all the way down to their tail. Those horns weren't just for show either, no sir. They defended themselves from predators by ramming those suckers right in the beast threatening them as hard as they could penetrate their skin, not a pleasant feeling at all even if you're a T-Rex."
The second Alexis said that a loud roar from that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex echoed across the air alerting the Triceratops which began moving along down the path escorting their children to safety.
"Speak of the dinosaur. Looks as we'll get to see a real life T-Rex after all, class. Isn't this exciting?"

Tori and the gang looked up in amazement at the herd of Triceratops wondering what other kind of dinosaurs were nearby for them to see. That one thought that seemed innocent enough was interrupted by the sound of something closing in from the distance even causing the Triceratops to run.
"Speak of the dinosaur. Looks as we'll get to see a real life T-Rex after all, class. Isn't this exciting?"
“T-Rex? Did you say there's a T-Rex coming?”
“It's all right, I know what to do.”
“You do?”
“I watched Jurassic Park. All we have to do is stand perfectly still, and it can't see us.”
“I have a better idea. Let's get the hell out of here!” |
