The Campaign Trail (Open to mayoral candidates)

The following thread is for campaigning in the Moon Valley Mayoral Election by role playing television ads, online promoting, newspaper articles, speeches and anything else to do with your campaign. Others who want to announce their candidacy and join in with their own campaign may do so provided they have a character native to Genesis or has been in Moon Valley long enough to be well known.

Tori was hard at work with her friends in the barn which her father had allowed her to use as her Campaign Headquarters during the afternoon after most of the work was done during the early morning. Shinta and Mary were setting up a website on the computer and registering on social networks and video-sharing sites for Tori to use to campaign in addition. Up in the loft on the barn's balcony Lily and Nex was setting up a video camera to record Tori who was waiting on her chair to be recorded so she could speak. Tugging on her shirt collar lightly as she began to feel herself get nervous the closer they got to actually recording. Going over what she was going to say one more time just as Lily looked up from the camera to look in her direction.

“Ready?” asked Lily.

“Y-yes!” replied Tori.

“Just remember if you mess up we can edit it out or do a second take.”

“All right.”

“Don't worry, Tori, you're gonna be great,” said Nex.

“Thanks.”

“And three, two...”

Lily hit record and Tori saw the red light on the video camera flash on as her signal to start.

“Hi everyone. My name is Tori Jacobs and I'm running for Mayor of Moon Valley. I am not a politician I'm a farmer. I lived here at Jacobs Ranch all my life helping my father and my brother take care of the animals here. So I know and understand the value of hard work and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty, just not in the way that politicians has been known to get their hands dirty.”

“Ho, ho!”

“Be quiet, Nex!”

“Sorry.”

“You're doing great, Tori. Just keep going let us worry about the rest.”

“I'm running because I care about my home and I don't want to see the mistakes of the past revisited. I, like so many of you, watched the battle between Superwoman and Doomsday with uncertainly and like so many of you I was terrified. I had to sit back and watch my home be taken over by an oppressive government when Mayor Carari Grey signed us over to General Vulture. These are things I never want to see happen again. I am not oppose to free trade with Isafaro but I will not under any circumstance allow another country to come in and tell us how to run our lives. Nor would I have been irresponsible enough to leave something as dangerous as a demon seal unguarded. I never would have even kept that secret from you all. So right off the bat I am offering one-hundred percent transparency there will be no more secrets in City Hall if you elect me Mayor.

“Now there's a big concern on the security of our nation. With travelers from other worlds popping up in random spot securing our border is a challenge. What we need to do is strengthen our police force and create a more modernized and efficient military. How do we get the equipment to make this happen? By opening free-trade with our neighbors in Kari, in Hallowton and going across the ocean to places like Xanarnis over in Elim, we can get these things. And by opening free trade to these places we are, in addition, developing a relationship with these countries and creating a trust between us. So we're not just looking out for our own interests but we're also promoting peace with our neighbors and that's something I feel very strongly about.

“When it comes to the actual issue of foreigners I do not believe we should turn them down. A lot of the destruction that has happened throughout Jherra was the cause of foreigners there's no disputing that, but at the same time a lot of good has come from foreigners too. Arix in Hallowton, Constantine Harker who aided Kari and Hallowton in fending off the Netherrealm, Demetrios. We can't know who's going to be good for us and who's going to be bad. We can't read people minds and know that. But assuming everyone is the same is a dangerous road to take. What we can do is identify these people and give them a work visa which will benefit us as well as them during their stay and from there promote the path to citizenship if they want to become a citizen of the city.

“That said the growing problem of people coming here from other worlds is not something we can tackle alone. We need to work with our neighbors here in Jherra to help monitor this phenomenon and protect Jherra from any more invaders who would wish to cause harm to all our nations and if elected I'll sit with the Queen, I'll sit with Kain, I'll even sit with Vulture if he'll have me on what we can do to defend our continent and our world in the future.

More images of Lex helping citizens out of the city while it was being attacked and helping less fortunate members of Moon Valley through the desert became viewable as more words appeared on the screen.

Tori wasn't the only one with a website, nor Lex the only one with ads showing on TV. Shannon already had her website with her stances on the issues already readily available as well as several ads on TV noting her vast accomplishments and qualifications for the position. On top of that she also held a press conference outside of her office for her to answer questions and air throughout all the televisions in Moon Valley to spread her message across the small mountain town. Flashes of light coming from the cameras as she stood behind the podium to give her speech.

"Thank you! Thank you all for coming!"

Shannon said loud and clearly so everyone in the audience could hear her.

"We have a lot of problems facing our nation that's why I wanted to set this up and give you all a chance to ask me your questions."

Everyone started talking at once trying to get the candidate's attention. Shannon held out her right hand and pointed with her index finger towards a person standing in the second row of the audience.

"Yes, you."

"What is your plan to stop the flooding of foreigners of other worlds?"

"Good question. This is a big issue that's currently facing our world. Aliens from other dimensions are coming through creating the largest security risk we have ever known. Even some who are among us right now are alien to this world. Our last mayor was able to slip through the cracks and get elected although she was from another world entirely and look what happened. It was hell on earth and we became slaves of the Isafarian government.

"We have to secure our border. To do this I plan to build a fence along the border and post guards on every hours of the day and night. We will search and locate any illegals currently hiding out in Moon Valley and kick them out. We will also promote the path of citizenship that is already on the books for people from other nations and even other words to become legal citizens of the state. We will also penalize any business caught hiring illegals in the state. Next question?"

"Will you increase military spending and if so will you have a tax raise to pay for it?"

"No. I don't want to increase military spending and I don't want to decrease it. My plan on taxes are to lower taxes on low income families and help improve small businesses. Our military and police force are coping with their workload. The problem is not money or equipment, the problem is lack of leadership. With the proper leadership the military and police force we have now can sufficient, and effectively, defend our city from natural and supernatural threats."

"How can you be so confident after what the Netherrealm did to half of Jherra?"

"We were caught by surprise and at a time where Moon Valley was without a leader. The demon army was defeated when it finally reached Kari and there's a reason for that: proper leadership. Proper leadership is what this country needs and proper leadership is what I will provide. Thank you."

West was at his campaign headquarters in Downtown Moon Valley where people have gathered to show their support for the prosecutor. They entered the front door and into the lobby where West Arcane was located. Waiting for everyone to gather around and take a seat as he stood in clear view of everyone, waiting for the last person to get in before beginning to speak:

"I want to thank you all for coming. We've heard a lot about Immigration. We've heard a lot about Foreign Policy and Free Trade. Defense and National Security. All important issues and I'm not here to minimize them. But what we haven't talked about is Health Care reform. What we haven't talked about is Education. We've talked about tax cuts for small businesses. But there are no small businesses. Neither of the other three candidates running have offered a plan to get Moon Valley back to work again. They haven't talked about the families still suffering from the Netherrealm disaster because they can't get the care they need or bringing back the schools. I'm here today to talk about these things.

"First and foremost right off the bat, let's get the obvious out of the way. Rebuild the hospital, our schools and our city. That's 100 construction jobs right there. After that we need to hire doctors and teachers for the hospital and schools built and give them the equipment they need to do their job well. So the next time we're faced with crisis our doctors will be able to handle it and our teachers will be able to prepare our children who could very well have to face these demons in their own life time."

Applauds erupted throughout the lobby and West waited for them to die down before continuing.

"Another thing you don't hear a lot of people talking about is Energy. Moon Valley is standing on top of the single most biggest mining cave in Jherra and we aren't doing anything with it. I think it's high time we harness that coal and made Moon Valley Energy Independent."

That was four issues the other candidates either overlooked or didn't think was important enough to touch on in their campaign yet. West was confident that beating them all to the punch would give him an edge.

"I also want to change the current tax code. Replace it with a Fair Tax and make it easier for all Moon Valley citizens. No more deductions and no more loop holes. Now as for the Immigration issue I disagree with Ms. Osborn about building a fence. I think the last thing we should do after the Netherrealm tragedy is cage ourselves in. We have all these soldiers who aren't being used, let them secure our border. Along the lines of Foreign Policy I am for Free Trade. I agree with Ms. Jacobs as far as that goes. I agree with working with our neighbors to combat the threat of the worlds merging as best we can. If elected Mayor I will work to do just that."
