The blast hit home, knocking him out of the air to collide with the ground with a dull metallic clanking. The labcoat he had worn was shredded to nonexistance by the blast, and one of the lights on his faceplate destroyed, but elsewise he remained intact. He hauled himself up, lifting his unblinking gaze on the super soldiers advancing on him. He hadn't dug deep enough to run into any information on whatever just hit him, or on the nice gentlemen with the chainsaw rifles. It was cause for a disgruntled sigh to be synthesized from him, before he heaved himself to his feet, quickly leaping back from the first of the soldiers as they neared him.
"How unf--rt--e fo--u." With a momentary spike of irritation he discovered his voice synthesizer had been damaged in the blast. In response to this development, the two remaining lights on DAVE's faceplate lit up, and in an instant, he sent a signal to a backup body he had created just in the eent of something of this sort. As it activated, he downloaded a backup of the information he had acquired since his last use of the spare body, before terminating the connection, leaving it autonomous.
On the current scene, DAVE merely let out a strangled laugh, parts of the syllables being left out due to the damage done to his vocal synthesizer. He merely stood there, awaiting the inevitable chainsaw that would tear into him, and when it did...the stick-thin robotic body detonated with a massive blast. The so-called Ultimate Criminal Mastermind had voluntarily conceded the first round to Vulture's toys.
But he would be back.
The newly-activated body of the robot, standing well over a mile from the conflict, perched on a rooftop, turned away from the smoldering blast crater his former host body had left. "Exactly as predicted...and I have a new topic to look into." And he dropped down from his rooftop perch, vanishing into the shadows of the city.

Garrus found himself in another tight spot between tank and super soldier as he had barely just enough cover for him and his team to hold out here until reinforcement could arrive. Three of his men on one side firing against the super soldiers to at least keep them at bay while the others saw to what ever kind of damage they could inflict to the tank. One keeping an eye out for that dreaded little red dot in the sky as the Rebel Turian himself launched a grenade on the side of one of the Predators and detonated it. He could see the building overheard that was destroyed and quickly looked at his radar. Only two dots remained from that location. Garrus had confidence Kragen and Imai had survived but he wanted them to confirm with the sound of their own voices. Garrus Vakarian Imai, Kragen, do you read? That looked like a nasty blast. I'm sorry for what happened to your men but we're kind of in a tight spot over here and need help ASAP.

Chainsaw sounded off behind Imai and Kragen's position as another thirteen super soldiers emerged from the ruins of the now destroyed building and charged towards the two looking to finish them off while the Predators and first set of Super Soldiers closed in on Garrus and his team. The grenade tossed by the Rebel Turian was enough to blast the tank but it did little in the overall scheme of things as the Super Soldiers took the shots and kept coming with bullets of their own, firing five shot bursts per each second that passed and not about to run out any time soon. Their auto-targeters matching the speed of their enemies as the armor piercing rounds threatened to break straight through their cover and their armor to finally rid of them.

“I don't think so.”
Behind the position of the 13 super soldiers closing in on Garrus' position came an army of tanks. The roars of 120 and 280mm cannons could be heard as M1A1s, Goliaths and Rhinos entered the area hammering away at the super soldiers and the opposing Predator tanks while more aid came from above in the form of VTOLs unleashing their air to ground missiles on the Vulture presence around Garrus.
Imai pushed as many of the super soldiers as she could with her biotics, but she only managed to push back a few and only by a few inches as they kept coming. Her only alternative then was to place up a barrier to protect Kragen and herself, giving Kragen time to do something as another VTOL came into their position and launched a missile at the super soldiers. Imai could hear a psst and then turned to the right to see 201 peeping out of the manhole nearby and motioning for them to come over here. Seeing that Garrus team had finally received aid Imai made a run for it towards the manhole where 201 was, making sure Kragen was closely by her side.

As expected neither would be given much room to grieve. It was foolish to pick this time to perform such a deed in the first place. Kragen switched back to the HK45 for more precise shots until their attention was drawn away by 201. The VTOL in the air giving them time to escape and Kragen followed behind Imai with his weapon still at the ready.

Relief finally came in the form of more tanks and VTOLs, allowing Garrus and his team a path around the super soldiers and retreating towards the tank aid, riding on the tanks and now taking advantage of the cockpit by literally ducking under cover when shots were fired their way before they resumed their attack. Garrus unloading another five shot burst from his assault rifle towards the remaining super soldiers.

The super soldiers in an amazing display of strength and endurance, withstood the main tank cannons of the Resistance reinforcement as the Predators backed away from the missiles being fired from above before Vulture's own VTOLs came into the scene engaging in a dog fight above. After Garrus and his team retreated into the tanks they would be met by yet another little red dot and a large explosion to follow from the resulting warhead to devastate the tanks that were now on the ground.

The tanks in the front line was instantly obliterated by the space platform railgun as the middle and rear parts of the tanks backed away from the blast. The ones in the middle being badly damaged but still functional while the rear tanks were perfectly fine and continued to fire towards the Predators and super soldiers down the street from them. Releasing guided missiles, swarm of stingers and charge shots towards the two.
“What are we doing down here, 201?” asked Imai as she traveled through sewers sewage.
“You need to give the order to retreat. From here we can get to the other side of the sector without any trouble then head back to base from there.”
“What? No! I won't let Vulture take back what we worked so hard to gain!”
“We? Spokesman is the reason we got this far. The soldiers will still be there but if you persist this losing battle they won't be for much longer. It's clear we have to find a way to combat that space platform if we want to even the playing field.”
“Kragen, you're a part of this team too. What do you think?”

Kragen only listened to the back and forth between captain and commander as he could still hear the sound of gunfire and explosions coming from the surface above. He agreed with 201 that this was a losing battle as long as Vulture had the Novalith Cannon on his side but it wasn't the Ex-Soldier's place to say anything. That was until Imai requested to hear his thoughts on the matter and he would oblige. "Retreat."

Garrus saw that familiar red light from above and immediately leaped from the tank's cockpit, barely missing the explosion that followed as he was hurled through the air and landed against the street. Looking back to see the tanks remaining that continued to fight but the rest of his squad didn't make it. Garrus Vakarian Dammit! Vulture was going to pay. He didn't know how but he was going to make him pay one way or another. Until then it was time to save the lives that were still living. The Rebel Turian didn't have command over everyone like Imai and 201, but he did have enough influence to get this secondary squad to safety. Garrus Vakarian Fall back! We have to fall back!

A couple of the Predators were taken out, as well as the super soldiers. But more Predators entered the battle and the leader of the super soldiers remained keeping the unit afloat. To make matters worse another red dot appeared behind Garrus and teleported thirteen new super soldiers to the field to box them in. The one at the front of the tanks jumping up on top of them and firing in the cockpits with their weapons to take out the drivers inside as the second unit fired up their chainsaws and split up, one half sawing down the rear end of the tanks and the other half going after the Rebel Turian.

"Retreat."
That was the one word Imai didn't want to hear from Kragen. It was frustrating that after all they've gained to fight the Vulture with they were still terribly outmatched in every way. Looking between Kragen and 201, who were both in favor of retreating, Imai picked up her radio and set it to all Resistance units.
“This is the Commander to all Resistance units. Fall back. I repeat, fall back.”
After the order was sent Imai put the radio away and 201 comforted her with a light pat on the shoulder before leading Imai and Kragen back towards Resistance new HQ.
More VTOLs entered the area where Garrus was. Firing down upon the super soldiers and Predators while one of the VTOLs dropped down a ladder to Garrus' position to get him out of the area before Vulture overran the place.

The Ex-Soldier nodded towards the pair, feeling that Imai was definitely making the right decision. It was always good to know when to attack and when to retreat. When you were in a battle you know you could not win, then retreat was not the same as running away. It was acknowledging the obvious and saving what you could. Kragen followed the two through the sewers and kept an eye out just in case. Whether it be Isafaro or someplace else altogether, one could never be too careful.

Garrus fought off the super soldiers as best he could, fortunately though he wouldn't have to hold out for too much longer as the order to retreat was heard from his radio and a VTOL came to his aid. Dropping a ladder that he instantly grabbed a hold of and started to ascend as the VTOL continued moving through the air and back to HQ.

Red Queen allowed for the Resistance to retreat as the rest of her firing squad began to take over this part of the sector. The people who had hoped that either the Spokesman of Insanity or the Resistance would save them had their hopes crushed when the bullets came into them. With no Resistance presence to slow them down anymore the northern part of Sector 4 was theirs for the taking and after that it was only a matter of time before Vulture took back what was rightfully theirs.
The war for the liberated sector has begun.
