Genius saw the blip flash on her radar screen showing the Vertigo Bombers that were moving in towards the locations of the forged IP addresses.
“Frustrated, are we?”
Genius opened up communications with the rest of the Resistance members spread out through the sector while never letting up on her hacking attempts against the Red Queen.
“This is HQ to all available Resistance units. We have Vertigo Bombers moving in to these coordinates.”
In a demonstration of her multitasking abilities, Genius sent a map of the Vertigo Bombers coordinates to the Resistance units while managing to break through the second firewall and onto the third.
“VTOLs, you're to intercept the bombers. All ground units are to perform evacuations of the targeted areas. My apologies, Queen. But you won't be taking any more lives today.”
“Get back now!”
With no time to waste Imai used a mass effect field with her biotics to push her own troops back down the stairs out of range of the blast just as the C4 down the hallway exploded. Unfortunately it was too late for her to get out of the way and she fell down to the floor below the hard way. Not entirely helpless however Imai cast her own mass effect field around her body to lighten her fall and land on her feet. But now they would have to find another way to the second floor.
“That's how it's going to be, huh? All right then.”
The tank's shields were enough to hold against most of the rockets, allowing her to fire more missiles into the air at the VTOLs. As the last set of rockets came crashing down 201 teleported out of the way just in the nick of time. Reappearing on the other side of the road and launching a guided missile at them. This time if she missed she could turn the missile around and give chase. Trusting Garrus and the rest of her unit to take care of the railgun wielding Predators nearby. |

Kragen moved back when he saw the C4 explosives. His other men didn't have time to step back but thanks to Imai they were able to avoid the blast as she crashed landed to the below level, her own biotics coming to her aid as well. Kragen told his men to go down and check on her as he broke the window just off to the side where the first level connected to the second and held up his DSR 50. Sending a .50BGM to the man wielding the detonator.

Garrus and the others also used their tanks teleporting feature to escape the wrath of the railgun and began open firing as soon as they reappeared to the left and right, out of the railgun's reach which went straight forward on the Predators. As they would turn to get another shot at them Garrus unleashed another powerful charge shot from the upgraded tank's main gun.

The third firewall was extremely difficult to break through even for someone of Olivia's genius. There were hundreds of different obscene inscriptions. Each one tougher to solve than the last and the slightest mishaps on her part would lead right back to the second firewall giving Olivia no room for mistakes. The opposing VTOLs all took educated guesses where the Vertigo Bombers would show up, some hit but many more missed their targets. The ones that missed being assaulted by the Vertigos rear gun turrets as they continued on dropping their groundpounder bomb to the designated site below.
Mr. Detonator took cover behind the nearby wall, the .50BGM flying by and breaking through the wall behind his position into an empty room. He then came back around from the wall with a 50 caliber sniper rifle and unloaded his own .50BGM tearing right through the wall where he knew Kragen was standing behind as he had to peer around that position just to get a shot at him after the destruction of the second floor.
The guided missile hit and the VTOL fell into the street and crashed. The Predators were next as Garrus charge shot ripped right through them setting the tanks ablaze. |

The Vertigos that got shot down allowed the Resistance ground troops to evacuate the site they were ordered to destroy. The Vertigos that shot down their VTOLs however destroyed their targets and took many lives with them. The ground forces in those locations not being able to move fast enough to get the people out and being caught up in the blast with the civilians. So much for making sure Red Queen wasn't going to take any more innocent life. Perks to having no soul was the fact Genius didn't care about the losses. Other than the fact her pride didn't want Red Queen to be able to take out any of her men on the field. Genius never broke a sweat as the inscription codes appeared on the screen and cautiously began to decode them as she was determined to get past the third firewall as well.
“I'm fine. Really.”
Imai slowly pulled herself back up to her feet and dusted herself off as she looked around for Kragen. Hearing the sound of gunfire and walls being smashed through up the steps that led to the now wrecked second floor. In a panic, Imai ran up the stairs and looked towards the broken wall and top of the staircase where she could see...
“Another one bites the dust.”
201 observed the VTOL fall into the street and then looked back to Garrus and the others before communicating with them through the radio.
“Follow me, boys. There are more where that came from.”
201 then led Garrus and the group down the street, anti-aircraft missiles at the ready for anymore VTOLs in the area as she also had her men keep an eye out for anymore snipers or rocket militants. |

Kragen dropped down and grabbed onto the ledge of where the second floor had been blown to hell, now hanging down above the damage on the first floor as Imai reached him just in time to see the blown out wall and Kragen's hands. Hanging on with just one hand now he fired another .50BMG at the ground of the man in the building across from them blowing it up before dropping down to the rubble below and calling up to Imai. "Down here."

So far so good on their end. They managed to punch through the Predators in this part of the city but like 201 said there were a lot more where they came from. And it was going to take more than just the destruction of a couple of units to get rid of PLAGUE. Especially if they were under orders from the returning Red Queen, the AI that took away their former base and was now trying to do it all over again with the new ground they recovered inadvertently thanks to Spokesman. Just when it looked like Genius would make it through the third and final firewall of the Red Queen big, bright, red letters would flash across the screen telling her otherwise:
ACCESS DENIED!
And just like that Genius found herself back at the second firewall which was already modified to better defend against a hacker's attempt as now more inscriptions ran up and down Olivia Hart's monitor.
The ground beneath the enemy sniper collapsed and he fell to the floor below. Soon after more enemy entered the building from where the Resistance had come through. Yet another wave of PLAGUE Shock Troops now open fired on Kragen and the soldiers coming down the stairs to meet up with him.
A Vertigo Bomber appeared above 201 and Garrus' position on the road, unloading a single groundpounder bomb to end their trail on the streets. |

By now somebody else would have allowed frustration to get the better of them and let out a couple of swear words to express that frustration. But Genius kept her cool and continued to work on hacking Red Queen's systems until she had reason to believe that it was a lost cause. Being a member of the undead made you patient since you knew you had all the time in the world.
“Dammit!”
Imai unleashed joint fire with the rest of Kragen's squad as they ran down the steps, a couple of men being shot down before the rest took cover behind the rubble from the second floor. Waiting for the bullets by the Shock Troops to dive down before coming back up and firing at them. Imai checking up on Kragen as the firefight was going on.
“Are you okay? What happened up there?”
“MOVE!”
201 shifted into turbo in order to out run the groundpound bomb that collided into the street and caused major damage to the road completely cutting off any tanks that were still on the other side as 201 spun her tank around and released a swarm of missiles into the air to take down the Vertigo Bomber that attacked them. |

"I'm fine," replied Kragen as he pulled out a stun grenade from his pocket and threw it at the Shock Troops. Looking to stun them all momentarily so his men could blast on through. "There was a sniper across the building from us holding a detonator in his hand. He set the explosion off but he didn't look to be a part of the PLAGUE unit."

Shit! Garrus and the others weren't able to activate their turbo in time and instead had to move backwards to avoid the explosion. Unfortunately the edge of the blast was enough to damage their shields and take out their transporters so they couldn't just teleport to the other side of the blast. Even if they could the transporters were unpredictable in where they ended up. There was a chance they could have teleported right over the newly punched hole in the ground. Garrus Vakarian

Red Queen's systems continued to adapt to Olivia's hacking attempts, the more she persisted the more her systems adapted and became even harder to crack. At the rate they were going the two would be at this for an eternity and neither one required any sleep.
The floor below the sniper across the building from Imai and Kragen gave away and the man went plummeting to the floor below. Meanwhile the stun grenades was successful in stunning the Shock Troops momentarily, however the flash that came blurred the soldiers vision keeping them from getting a shot at their visors which acted as the only weakness in their armor. The bullets were stopped by their armor and when the effects of the stun grenades wore off the Shock Troops open fired again, their bullets beginning to break through the Resistance's cover and onto the soldiers.
More Vertigo Bombers entered the area dropping more bombs in the direction of 201 while a new set of Predator tanks moved in on the damaged unit led by Garrus unloading their 120mm cannons at the group while they were trapped where they were where the road had been split. |

Seeing that her attempts were now only strengthening the Red Queen's defenses Genius pulled back from hacking her systems and shifted her focus back to the ground troops they had in the sector. Opening communications so she could speak with them from where she was.
“This is The Genius to all Resistance infantry. What's your status?”
"I'm fine. There was a sniper across the building from us holding a detonator in his hand. He set the explosion off but he didn't look to be a part of the PLAGUE unit."
“Rogue? Or some kind of independent contract perhaps?”
There'd be no time for an answer as the Shock Troops came at them hard and their cover was starting to be blown through as the stun grenades backfired on them.
“This is The Genius to all Resistance infantry. What's your status?”
“Genius! We're in a lot of trouble over here. The second floor of the building is down and our exit is blocked by Shock Troops. We need another way out.”
“One moment please.”
Genius looked over the area they were in as Imai pushed back the Shock Troops with her biotics before moving with the rest of the team into stronger cover that would hold at least long enough until Genius could get back with them.
“Continue left of your position and go on straight to the end of the hall and make a right. That will lead you to the back exit and to a fire escape you can use to bypass the damaged floor. Allow me to provide a distraction.”
Genius hacked into the gun cameras near by and aimed them at the Shock Troops and unloading upon them to get them off Imai and Kragen's case.
“Let's move!”
"Captain! We've been hit. Shields and transporters are down. We're going to have to go around the blast site and meet up with you at the next intersection."
“Roger!”
201 saw more Vertigo Bombers appear out of nowhere to drop another set of bombs above her position.
“Not this time.”
201 teleported to avoid the groundpounder bombs that wrecked the street up even further as more of their own VTOLs entered the area and launched their missiles at the bombers followed up by their attached miniguns. |

"Perhaps" Kragen moved to stronger cover, waiting for an opening before using the HKG3 rifle to fire back. But that wouldn't be needed as after Imai's short conversation with Genius they were given another way out and the gun cameras was set off against the Shock Troops. Kragen and his men followed Imai out of the building and then up the fire escape but not before setting some claymores near the exit in case the Shock Troops decided to follow.

There was only one way out of this, punching their way straight through the Predators. Like they say, the best defense is a good offense. Garrus and the other tanks fire all weapons, glad that these tanks didn't have the railguns upgrade like the previous Predators. Garrus took damage but the tank's armor held but a couple of his men weren't so lucky as their tanks exploded with them inside. Prompting Garrus to slice the opposing Predators in half with his laser.
