History: Jonas Dawning is the son of Larson Dawning, a well-respected Military engineer, and Lareyne Dawning, a high-ranking Military Police Officer, both working for the UNSC Navy. He has a twin-sister named Linda, but he was often considered the elder sibling as he came out first. When the two were six years old, the local Insurrection attacked a privately-leased laboratory that their father was working at, and he was captured. His wife led a rescue and arrest, but as she was protecting him, a rebel fatally wounded her, and she died hours later in the hospital.
Due to how valuable the scientist was to the UNSC, he and his family were moved to the Planet Reach, where he became one of the most important chief engineers for the Office of Naval Intelligence's Section Three. He was put to work creating and designing prototypes for many weapon and armor systems, including working closely with Doctor Catherine Halsey on the beginnings of the MJOLNIR MKV. As the years went on however, it became known that their relationship became more personal, Halsey becoming very attracted to the twins. The boy and girl began looking up to her as a second mother when their father was out of town on business trips around Reach, a comfort for her after going out of contact with her own child, Miranda. The two became apprenticed from in their early teens to their father and Halsey, soon assisting the two in bringing many important objects off the ONI drawing board into production and branch-wide use by the UNSC. Their intelligence was contributed to hereditary genes that Halsey found matched her requirements for the highly successful but expensive SPARTAN II program. She schemed under Larson's nose to try and conscript the children, but she couldn't bring herself to it, the thought of breaking the widowed man's heart made her question the use of specially selected children after fallout of the second class of soldiers she wanted to augment.

This project would become known as Project: FREELANCER. After the selection process, Leonard himself eyed the two teenagers, regaining the trust of his old friend in order to try and conscript them into his project. When Leonard was finally killed by a saboteur cell on Reach during a business trip, Leonard was about to achieve his goal, but the Doctor stepped in, attempting to sue him as she gave the twins time to escape out of his eye. Without anywhere else to go, Jonas decided to take his sister to New Alexandria, where they signed up at a recruiting station to become ODSTs. When the young man woke up, he found himself sore, unable to remember many parts of his past, specifically family and the events leading up to that faithful mission. He was greeted by Halsey, his situation explained: He had been augmented and was now classified as a SPARTAN, the premier super soldiers of the UNSC. With war escalating, she sent Jonas out with her Spartans as an additional squad member, and he would go on to serve in several operations before ONI’s Section Zero, with Halsey’s suggestion, hired him to go spy on and possibly apprehend Leonard Church, who was left in autonomy with Project FREELANCER for much of the war since its creation. During his time with the other Spartans however, he regained some parts of his memory, mainly the fact that he had a sister, and upon hearing that he could possibly find her and the answers he seeks by going into the project, he accepted, and was offered as a “gift” to Church for his work, the Spartan given the title Recovery Agent Seven, and unofficially, North Carolina.
A year or two after his deployment, the war came to its climax, the Halo event and the finial battles missed by him, but the eventual downfall of the project and the recovery of potential new soldiers for the fourth generation of super-soldiers was what he contributed to in the spring a year after the Great War’s end. With the project gone, his family recovered his friends and allies safe and sound, he was planning to retire, but ONI had different plans for him. He was drafted into a research deployment as the head of defense operations. He was stationed aboard a new frigate, named the UNSC Alpha. It had been modified with forerunner technology, allowing it to travel through slipspace with relative ease. It became one the most advanced ships in the fleet, second only its big (or really gigantic) brother, the UNSC Infinity. During one of the ship’s test runs however, it entered a slip-space anomaly, and to the UNSC’s horror, it phased out of existence. The ship was considered lost with all hands, but this wasn't the end of the story. The ship entered space in an unknown dimension, soon coming to rest on a planet not unlike earth in a barren landscape outside a massive city. With the lost of contact to the UNSC, Jonas and the forces aboard the ship decide to fly out to the city in Pelican dropships, a whole new adventure awaiting them in this unfamiliar world.
