"We have reviewed the evidence. We see no reason to prolong these proceedings." "Your client guilt is clear as day. She has betrayed the Vulture and now must suffer a most painful death." "Why would my client turn on her own men, leave them alive knowing full well they would report her and then be the one to call in the attack? It doesn't make any sense." Rose stood in a large silver court room where several judges stood across from her and Meryl. They stood behind a small table and to their right the prosecution and directly across from them were the judges behind a bench. "There is video footage of your client performing the crime." "You know as well as I do that cameras can be manipulated." "State of the line video technology? By who?" "By who? The one that did it!" "And who would that be if not your client?" "...."

Meryl couldn't stand this. Sitting in a court room, people watching from behind them. Two lawyers battling it out with judges arguing over the case. She was a soldier. She would much rather just be taken out back and shot. At least there was some honor in that. Meryl just sat quietly behind the table, sat down next to where Rose stood faced with the judges who fate were in their hands. And judging by their responses so far she could guess what they had already decided. "Bring it," Meryl said beneath her breath.

"Tread carefully, Mrs. Campbell."
On the far right of the judge's bench was a monitor that had appeared to have been left off for most of the trial but was in fact only on standby. When the black screen faded away the face of the Red Queen appeared on the monitor from the holographic projector being shown from HQ allowing her to communicate to those in the court, acting as one of the judges for Meryl's hearing.
"We wouldn't want you to accuse anyone innocent of treason. You know what the penalty is for that."

"Why would my client turn on her own men, leave them alive knowing full well they would report her and then be the one to call in the attack? It doesn't make any sense."
“Maybe she thought her father's name gave her special treatment.”
Footsteps approached from the side of the room in the open space separating the judges' bench from the tables and the rows of seats behind them from the crowd that came in to watch these proceedings as General Vulture himself stepped into the room.
“Maybe she thought her men would fear death and not speak out against her. Or maybe, just maybe, she wanted to be caught so she can die and be free of her obligation to the Vulture. Something I would be happy to deliver if that is the case.”
Vulture smiled towards the redhead and took his place at the center space behind the bench where the other judges stood.
"There is video footage of your client performing the crime."
"You know as well as I do that cameras can be manipulated."
"State of the line video technology? By who?"
"By who? The one that did it!"
"And who would that be if not your client?"
“Who indeed.”
"Tread carefully, Mrs. Campbell."
Another smile crossed the Vulture's lips as he looked over to the artificial child who decided to wake up and join them in these proceedings.
"We wouldn't want you to accuse anyone innocent of treason. You know what the penalty is for that."
“They will suffer the same fate as any traitor would. Death!”
As if it was already evident so far, the Campbell name alone wouldn't save them.

Rose bit her bottom lip. She wasn't expecting the General himself to be present at these proceedings. Meryl may have been related to an honorary war hero but she was still just a lowly Private. When the monitor came on Rose looked surprised to see a red hologram of a child was actually speaking through it. "W-what is this?"

Meryl raised her head up and narrowed her eyes at Vulture as she spoke of her father. Did he know? Did he know about the Colonel's lies or did he speak of the man who was her father on record? Meryl shook her head, running her hands across her eyes and wondering how she could think of these things at a time like this. When she got done it was just in time to see the appearance of Red Queen on the computer monitor. The insanity never ends.

"A fully functional self aware Vulture artificial intelligence."
Came the child's reply as she looked at Rose through the computer's monitor.
"Is there a problem? I'm more than capable of overseeing these proceedings fairly, which is more than I can say for my colleagues."

“It doesn't matter what she thinks. I decide who oversees these proceedings whether they be human or artificial. Understood?”
The people in the room nodded to acknowledge, even the people who didn't have to in fear of being shot.
“Continue with your case, Ms. Campbell. Your client, your niece's life depends on it.”
How right he was.

Rose was starting to grind her teeth. Doing everything in power to hide her frustration and keep her cool in the face of all this opposition. She knew it wasn't going to be easy but this was ridiculous. "The Vulture has a lot of enemies, so does an esteemed war hero. Is it really hard to imagine that someone would frame Meryl in an attempt to get to her uncle?"

This would mark the first time he appeared with the core group of Isafaro's big three. Of course, the Captain wasn't in the room now since he locked himself in a space center far above the planet, that foiled one of his plans to just blow the building up around them with one well placed plastic explosive on the support structure. He would just have to play nice now.
The only problem with exposing himself in public and trying to kill the Vulture was the Red Queen. If he harmed the man in any way he would be dealing with the full might of Vulture's army before he could exit the building. Today was a recreational day, he was wearing a full black suit black tie, black dress shirt under the suit and his shoes were polished to a nice shine. Of course he was wearing his sun glasses.
Wesker leaned back in his chair and crossed a leg over his knee as he waited to hear the side of the story. He was only sitting here now out of curiosity.

It took all of Meryl's strength not to stand up in the courtroom and curse Vulture and the rest of his little panel of judges. That would have gotten her killed faster than anything and ended this hell but it would make Drake's effort all for naught and Meryl couldn't do that. Even if she wouldn't live long enough to regret it, those few seconds of regret would be terrible enough so she bit her tongue and waited for Rose to make her defense. Eying the man in a suit that joined with the others and raising an eyebrow. Who wears shades indoors? The thing you notice when you're two inches from death.

Red Queen's eyes followed Wesker as he entered the room and took his seat amongst the rest of the judges at this trial. It lingered, only for a moment before returning to Rose.
"Mere speculation, Mrs. Campbell. Unless you have some evidence on the contrary I suggest you don't waste the court's time."

Rose looked down to Meryl seated next to her and then back to the judges. It was put up or shut up time as they say, only with a chance of death on the side thanks to the people they were dealing with. She pulled out some papers from her desk, copies of the reports from that night and then the data Drake managed to get his hands on about the new tech that allowed a person to disguise their appearance via holographic projector. "On the night of the attack Meryl was seen picking up a data filed as A-Level Security Clearance. Meryl is a Private, she doesn't even have C-Level Security Clearance. Yet according to video evidence she is seen committing treason for a piece of data she would know nothing about and have no way of finding out about it. Her psychological profile is already on file and it's sound. Why would my client sacrifice everything for data she knew nothing about?" At the end of her statement Rose grabbed the disc Drake got her. "On this disc is data on a holographic project where anyone who has it on can be whoever they want to be. Keeping in mind what I've already said the defense argues that on the night of the incident Meryl, the real Meryl, got separated from her squad, replaced by a fake who did have A-Level Clearance and then proceeded to steal the data found at the scene."

Meryl watched as Rose began making their case, presenting evidence and more or less waiting for the judges to say something. Or rip them apart like common vultures and condemn her to death. As the trial continued Meryl kept looking back at the entrance to the court. Waiting, hoping that Drake would come barging in with Kailix in his hand and all the evidence required to convict and execute the real criminal here. Before it was too late.

"Your client's psychological profile is not on trial here, however there is one way she could have uncovered the information. Mr. White has A-Level Security Clearance and could have easily let such information slip. It's no secret he fancies her."
