Ayanna rode down the dirt road to Kari, turning her head to look behind her every once and a while as she went. Leaving Isafaro would be enough for Vulture to brand her as a deserter and a traitor. And there was also the matter of the rapist back in the tavern outside of the city. The last thing she needed was to be stalked by a creep while at the same time Vulture would come for her. Then again, next to Vulture, the creep didn't matter so much. It wasn't long before Ayanna found herself at the northwest entrance of the city. Naturally she was stopped at the checkpoint and welcomed by several rifles aimed at her face. They recognized her as one of the Vulture's top agents and she sighed irritably. Though she expected this welcome in the first place.
“Get out of here, Vulture scum.”
Ayanna got off her motorcycle, removing her helmet and tossing it towards the guard telling her to leave.
“Don't you think you're being a tad bit judgmental?”
“Last chance.”
“I'm not with the Vulture anymore. And even if I were, do you really think he'd send me here on my own? Even Vulture isn't that arrogant. Let me speak to your superior. All I want is a place to lay my head.”

Ayanna wouldn't have to wait long for Kain to appear, approaching the checkpoint and narrowing his eyes over one of Vulture's top agents who claimed to no longer be affiliated with the Vulture. Many would call him foolish for revealing himself to her but he was more than capable of handling himself and if she was foolish enough to attack him now she'd never leave this city alive. "Start talking."

"Start talking."
“Nice to meet you too,” replied Ayanna sarcastically. “It's like I told these guys, I'm not with Vulture anymore. They killed my best friend and turned my entire squad into monsters. But I can tell you all don't believe me, so tell me what I have to do to convince you. Strip search? Lie detector test? Do I have to bring back a Shock Troop's head? What?”

Kain didn't give a yes response to any of her suggestions. A lie detector could be cheated and if she was a spy then she wouldn't have anything on her person that could give her away in a strip search. Vulture considered many of his men expendable so her coming back with a soldier's head didn't mean much. There was one thing she could do to prove herself though. "Return to Isafaro and be our eyes and ears on the inside. My people will be able to monitor you from here to make sure you're not lying to us."

"Return to Isafaro and be our eyes and ears on the inside. My people will be able to monitor you from here to make sure you're not lying to us."
Ayanna was taken off guard by this request, mostly because she knew the people here were former natives to Isafaro and they knew what it meant to desert the city if you were part of their military. What made Kain think that going back was ever an option?
“You've been trapped underneath ice for too long. I abandoned the Crimson Vulture and left the city. As far as they're concerned I'm a traitor and they'd shoot me on sight if I went back.”

"I'm sure a woman as capable as yourself can think of a way to slip back into the Vulture's ranks," replied Kain. He still didn't trust her and the more she refused to do what he asked, the more he was led to distrust her. They were at war with Isafaro after all and he couldn't afford to take any risks. "That is, if you wish to stay here..."

"I'm sure a woman as capable as yourself can think of a way to slip back into the Vulture's ranks. That is, if you wish to stay here..."
“Fine.”
Ayanna turned around and took back the helmet she tossed to the nearby guards, returning it to her head and strapping it on before climbing onto her motorcycle.
“I'll find somewhere else to lay my head because I'm not going back.”
Ayanna sounded off her engines and turned around, leaving Kari and its leader behind. Her choice had been made; she wasn't going back. No matter what and she wouldn't be forced into going back either.
