A Strange New World [Chapter XVI]

[Miracle]

"The rift being opened at all is a danger to both our worlds. Can't you see that?"

The High Priestess gave Laura back her binoculars and opened up the car door, if Laura could not help her then Miracle would have to take matters into her own hand. Raising up her wooden staff the child jumped into the woods and used the surrounding trees to bypass the guards and make her way to where the dimensional rift resided.

[Tenjou, Utena]

"Miracle! Miracle, stop!"
But she didn't listen to her. Miracle ran right off into the woods for the rift and if she got caught and found out it would mean her job. Stepping her foot on the gas, Laura drove up to the entrance set up for the woods and got out of the car, showing her ID to the guards and heading on through looking to cut Miracle off through the entrance. Making sure nobody was around when she passed the plastic curtains she would come to find....

[Miracle]

Miracle was already there with her staff raised over the dimensional rift.

"Father in heaven, close this gateway to another life so thy worlds may remain in peace. Amen!"

Laura would watch as the portal started to close before her very eyes after the child's prayer. But before it could close, the head of a dragon stuck out of the portal and roared in Laura's face, breathing fire and burning through the curtains that surrounded the rift as it struggled to get free from the portal.

[Tenjou, Utena]

"Miracle, what on earth are you doing? Get away from this--"
Laura wouldn't be able to finish her sentence as that was when the dragon stuck out its ugly head from the other side of the portal and caused Laura to fall down against the ground in surprise. As the flames shot out of it mouth, Laura cuddled up and raised her arms over her head as the noise was more than enough to alert the guards to what was happening but as soon as they saw the dragon they were running to get out of there. When the flames settled down and Laura looked up she saw the creature use the last of it strength to break free from the portal, it closing soon after it as it flew up into the sky to begin terrorizing New Orleans.
"There goes my raise."

[Miracle]

Miracle watched as she managed to close the portal only for a creature on the other side to escape at the last minute and begin his reign of chaos right here in America. Running over to Laura's side the child helped her up and began leading her back in the wrong direction where she assumed her car still was.

"Come, we have to find the creature and destroy it."

[Tenjou, Utena]

Laura noticed that Miracle was pulling her in the direction where she had her vehicle and quickly directed her to where it was now but before going any further she got down to eye level with Miracle and said, "What do you mean destroy it? We can't just go and kill it without trying to get it home first. And besides wouldn't killing it only upset this balance of yours even further?"

[Miracle]

"No it wouldn't and allowing it to exist in this world unchallenged is a far greater risk than killing it. Now let's get going!" The child demanded redirecting herself to where Laura had, assuming now that the car was moved within the time she first headed into the woods. "If we don't hurry there's no telling what damage it could do both to our worlds and innocent people."

[Tenjou, Utena]

"The same could be said about you, could it not?"
Miracle didn't belong to this world any more than that dragon did and she didn't have anyone suggesting that they kill her because they didn't have a way, or knew how to send her back home. Laura stood up and straightened herself before looking back over to the High Priestess as she began heading in the right direction of where their car was now. Hopefully that dragon didn't burn it on the way out.
"I have to inform my crew. It'd take more than the two of us to track it down and capture it. And when I say capture I mean alive."

[Miracle]

"The same could be said about you, could it not?"

"I am not threatening the lives of innocent people, nor am I meddling in things I have no business meddling in or no knowledge of."

"So be it. If you will not assist me in slaying the dragon then I will do so myself."

With that said the High Priestess began to take her leave of the woods to track down the dragon on her own.

[Tenjou, Utena]

Laura sighed. Why did children have to be so difficult? I guess that was something that remained the same in any world. Still, Laura couldn't allow the child to go off on her own and chase down a dragon of all things. It was time to put her foot down. Walking up to Miracle, Laura placed a firm hand on the girl and led her back to her car.
"You're not going anywhere, especially not off to fight a dragon by yourself. We're heading back to the car, I'm going to call work and you are going to let the adults handle this."

But Laura would suddenly be temporarily blinded by a white light that shinned from the child, allowing her to escape her clenches and flee the woods in search for the dragon. By the time the blinding light had faded and the woman would regain her eye sight the High Priestess of Aircano would be long gone.

[Tenjou, Utena]

Laura used her arm to shield herself from the bright light and when it finally died down she would lower it only to find Miracle nowhere to be found.
"Goddammit!"
Good thing Miracle wasn't around to hear that. Angry at both the child and herself, Laura dashed back for her car, grabbing her cellphone and calling work while taking off down the road to find Miracle.
