Already, the kid was back on the offensive. Shepard hid his concern for Garrus' partner and the nasty injury he just sustained behind an unyielding frown of determination; a look the turian had seen and rallied behind countless times before.
Olivia lingered behind Kragen a little too long. The completion of Shepard's turn to face her when she came into view was almost simultaneous with her appearance behind Kragen; the cybernetics used by Cerberus to repair his broken body after the destruction of the Normandy had granted him greatly accelerated reflexes, amongst other handy tricks.
As Kragen fell out of his allies' line of fire, Shepard had lined up his shot and squeezed the trigger. Another searing hot slug erupted from his rifle, crossing the distance to his target seemingly instantaneously, aimed at her heart.

Impossible. The Genius repelled the slug with her knives and suffered no major repercussions for it. Impossible. Two daggers were thrown to the ground where Shepard and Garrus were, and upon the stabbing the two would feel their bodies go numb as they became paralyzed where they stood. Easy prey for the vampire as her human features faded away, and only the demon with gold eyes remained before she faded away and six explosions simultaneously went off towards Shepard, Garrus and Kragen.

The woman's speed went unseen but the ex-soldier continued to fight. They had no other option. He drew a stun grenade and tossed it into the air. When it went off it would consume a large collection of space, and luck was on their side as it went off right in the space traveled by the vampiress to stun her temporarily and Kragen fired upon her with the HKG3, blessed silver 7.62mm NATO rounds tearing through her flesh before her knives could fall upon them.

Despite being brutally handicapped by the enemy, when Kragen played his hand he gave both Commander Shepard and himself the opening they needed to win this thing. While temporarily stunned by the Stun Grenade in the ex-soldier's possession the rebel turian aimed his weapon and open fired upon the vampire's main body.

Impossible.
Olivia's superior speed and agility became all but a moot point as the Stun Grenade took over a wide area of which she occupied for no more than a nanosecond, but that nanosecond was all Kragen needed for lady luck to smile down upon him and give them an opening. Large bullets blasted through her flesh leaving a horrible burning sensation throughout her entire body as the blessings did their trick. Blood painted the snow and The Genius fell bleeding out. Unable to rise to her feet. Coughing up blood her eyes grew wide and a look of surprise took over her pale features, that was human again as she was now too weak to retain her demon face, before confusion were clearly visible.
“W-where am I? Why did you–?”
After coughing up more blood one name slipped from her lips carrying a dark tone of vengeance within it when it left.
“Maricul!”

Shepard just about managed to step out of the way of the dagger Olivia hurled at him, and by the time he had turned back after shielding himself from the stun grenade's flash in order to lay some more fire on the child, Garrus and his injured comrade had beaten the Commander to it. The girl now lay broken upon the ground, her body rent with bullet holes that hissed audibly, the flesh burning as a result of whatever corrosive agent Kragen might've laced his rounds with. Shepard made a note to ask later.
The Spectre allowed himself a quiet sigh; the feeling of relief that came with the end of a battle was always very welcome.
"Well, that's that," he mused. At the press of a button, his M-97 Viper collapsed upon itself into its compact form and he returned it to its back holster."Someone care to tell me what the hell was wrong with her while we get out of here?"

The HKG3 never left the sight of the demon child as she coughed up blood. Power, immortality, speed like no other. And yet she was taken down by a simple weapon of man and a little luck. The world was indeed a funny place. "She's alive." With his knee patched up, the ex-soldier got up to his feet and walked over to the wounded vampire, keeping the G3 on her. Hearing the name that parted her lips the next objective was clear. "Start talking."

Garrus Vakarian Long story short, she's a vampire. Well was. I never seen one that fast before. Even the last one while strong couldn't dodge everything we threw at it. Garrus weapon was put away and he could see that he stood corrected on the past tense as the vampire on the ground was still alive despite everything. Kragen had already began the integration and the turian joined his side, interested to learn who this 'Maricul' was exactly. Another vampire or something else entirely? Garrus Vakarian I'd listen if I were you. My friend here isn't so good with children.

"Start talking."
The Genius stared down at the end of a gun's barrel as the events that has transpired in the past couple of minutes were starting to slowly come back to her. She mainly had the pain to thank for that.
"I'd listen if I were you. My friend here isn't so good with children."
“Clearly...”
As if to further prove their point, Olivia coughed up another couple of drops of blood before looking back to the man with the gas mask and the unfamiliar alien; his other human friend not that far behind.
“Maricul is using the tower up ahead to merge the realms together. If she succeeds she'll have full control over everything. I tried to stop her but she found out and must have brainwashed me somehow. I'm not your enemy. A universe ran by Maricul is the last thing I want.”

Still alive, eh? For a creature of fiction, that was fairly impressive. Shepard moved up to flank Garrus as the questioning began, a safe distance kept from Olivia, and removed his N7 Eagle heavy pistol from its holster to keep her at a second gunpoint. If she was just stalling for time until she healed enough to attack them again, they'd need to be ready to put a few more slugs into her chest before she could move very far. Couldn't be too careful.
"Brainwashed?" The Spectre tilted his head, glancing back at the colossal tower in the distance and then to Garrus. "Sound familiar to you?"

Kragen found it suspicious that in defeat the demon child was so quick to claim she was being controlled by the enemy but her words were groundbreaking all the same. "Merge the realms?" Sounded like something out of a video game. "Where is she now?"

Sovereign. It was frightening to think that there was someone else out there powerful enough to take control of someone's mind and succumb them to their will. Garrus Vakarian Too familiar. Came the turian's reply as he took another glance at the Downward Spiral and then returned his gaze upon the vampire child. Garrus Vakarian How do we shut it down?

"Where is she now?"
“Top of the tower. Unless you have a jet pack hidden away someplace it'll take some doing getting up there.”
"How do we shut it down?"
Olivia would have laughed if she weren't already busy holding onto her entrails.
“You don't. It would take a lifetime to learn how to properly use the tower. A luxury you don't have.”

So there was nothing they could do? Granted, Shepard knew nothing about Garrus' exploits here, but that colossal tower behind them certainly wasn't doing anything beneficial - merging of realms, as the vampire child put it, sounded like the kind of insane plan one would expect of a villain in an old human fantasy movie.
"So where does that leave us?" Shepard asked his comrades, turning on the spot to glance back at the tower and the enormous pillar of light erupting from its pinnacle. When he thought about it, he found himself determining that he really didn't need to be privy to details - if Garrus was resolved to oppose whatever plans this Maricul had set in motion, that was good enough for him.

A lifetime. But if the realms were being threatened then they had nothing to lose by trying. Asserting that there weren't much else for the demon child to share, the ex-soldier aimed the HK45 towards her skull and looked towards the turian. "Eliminate?"
