The only emotion to pass over Sparda's face at the sight of the pulsating demonic limb that Eva's sleeve tore away to reveal was a flash of surprise. Gritting his teeth to suppress a growl of pain as she squeezed down on his arm with such immense strength as to snap his bone, the Dark Knight popped open a portal when she threw him skyward and disappeared before it; the gate had dissipated by the time the Demon Assassin fired, the pellets of her shotgun simply soaring into the air.
Sparda reemerged from the other end of the portal some distance from his opponent, his crushed arm already healing and his eyes fixed on Eva's right arm. Those were the stuff of legends.
"A Devil Bringer... I don't believe I remember the last time I even saw such a weapon, much less the last time I fought one." Cradling his healing arm for a fleeting moment, the demon took a deep breath, analysing the situation. Eva's bag of tricks, it seemed, was possibly a whole lot bigger than he'd first surmised.
"I may have underestimated you so far, but it doesn't matter much." His arm now repaired, the demon cracked his knuckles and stared Eva down. "Your mistress is going to see everything we've ever known destroyed with this mad crusade of hers. I have no intention of letting some cheap imitation of my power keep me from stopping her."
In that moment, Sparda was gone; reappearing in the air over Eva's head with such incredible speed he almost seemed to have arrived before he moved. He reeled his right hand back, and behind him, an enormous violet fist of magical energy materialised in the air, a mocking homage to the Demon Assassin's secret weapon.
With a roar, the Dark Knight brought the massive disembodied fist down upon his foe, seeking to smash her into the ground with gargantuan force. But as soon as the enormous fist made contact, whether she blocked or not, it vanished suddenly, seeming to collapse downwards towards Eva in an instant, shrinking into a pinprick of seething energy - a singularity of colossal demonic power.
With its fury directed towards the Demon Assassin, it exploded.

"A Devil Bringer... I don't believe I remember the last time I even saw such a weapon, much less the last time I fought one."
Eva turned around to face Sparda's new position, holding out the arm and wiggling the fingers of her Devil Bringer.
“Courtesy of the Rockstar.”
"I may have underestimated you so far, but it doesn't matter much."
“May have...?”
"Your mistress is going to see everything we've ever known destroyed with this mad crusade of hers. I have no intention of letting some cheap imitation of my power keep me from stopping her."
He made the mistake of going into the air in his human form, the same as she did against Arix, and he was charging to boot. Eva had already put away her shotgun during their little chat and had a hand on the hilt of another weapon that was about to be his undoing. A weapon she wouldn't be surprised he also forgot all about. The Otamay, replica of the Yamato. Before he could fully charge up his fist, he would find himself at the mercy of a sudden and devastating Judgment Cut III, Eva no longer holding anything back when it came to inflicting pain upon his flesh as it was more than sufficient to knock him out of the air. The Otamay now in her left hand.
“Do you think I like what I am? Do you think I take pride in being the gender-bent clone of a has-been legend who couldn't even save his own world!? Do you think I like having memories of people and events that I was never actually there for!?”
Violet demonic energy surrounded her body as she vented two years' worth of frustration towards the sole source of her creation. Sparda.
“I'm in love with a woman I'll never know, whose lips I'll never touch, whose warmth I'll never feel – nor will I ever be able to watch the children she had grow up. And everywhere I go I am constantly reminded that these feelings aren't mine! Eva was a beautiful and kind woman...”
The Demon Assassin held up the Otamay and prepared for another attack.
“And she's dead because of you!”

Yamato. Sparda was wholly unsurprised, but undeniably caught out before he could throw his punch. Instead he brought the spectral fist in front of his body to block the Judgement Cut sent ripping through the air towards him, and the impact of the savage blow caused the charge of energy to explode prematurely, propelling the Dark Knight through the air.
When the blast cleared, he was gone. No sign of a portal, no visible passage of any kind. Eva found herself ranting at empty air...
"Don't you dare speak of her again."
He was right behind her. And in the very moment the last word left his lips, the blade of his sword plunged through her torso, its demonic steel wreathed in ravenous hellfire that seemed to devour her flesh as if slaking an appetite for the lives of Sparda's foes. Waves of unimaginable pain crashed through the clone's body...
Then as quickly as the Dark Knight had set upon her, the sword was withdrawn - and the wound was gone.
When Eva turned around, she'd find Sparda nowhere to be seen. Instead, a veil of jet-black fog descended upon the Spiral, so obscuring the Demon Assassin's vision that she'd only be able to see for a few metres in front of her. Even Sparda's aura seemed to have disappeared completely, leaving her with no way of tracking him whatsoever.
He was done holding back.

"Don't you dare speak of her again."
The surrounding area would soon be filled by Eva's screams as the Force Edge penetrated her and caused her great amounts of pain before being drawn back and the Dark Knight vanished soon after. The Demon Assassin turned only to be greeted by nothing but a dark fog. Regenerating from the previous stab Eva redrew her Mirror Edge and prepared herself for any further advancement from Sparda.

For seemingly eternities, Eva wandered aimlessly through the opaque fog, the featureless stone underfoot giving her no indication of her whereabouts and her vision almost completely obscured - deafening silence was her only companion. Her foe was nowhere to be found. Eventually, she broke into what appeared to be a clearing in the midst of the veil of darkness. The fog drifted back into place behind her, curving around her in a great empty hemisphere of space.
At its centre, a thin sheet of this black fog rolling across the ground at its mouth, was a flight of stairs seemingly carved into the very ground. The first few steps were visible, perfectly smooth and obviously very deliberately hewn, and there was enough clearance for her to be able to fit.
The stair vanished into the black, no light to be seen... and an inexplicable compulsion gripped the Demon Assassin. She gazed into the deep blackness of the unnatural stairwell, feeling a presence within that called to her inexplicably; and step by furtive step, she moved towards it, mounting the steps and descending into utter darkness.

As the Demon Assassin made her advancement she was expecting Sparda to emerge from the surrounding darkness any second now and attack her again but the Dark Knight never appeared. Instead she continued on her path not being able to explain why she had such urgency in her step until a light finally came to turn away the darkness and she saw a horrible sight before her. A water tank containing her naked form hooked to several machines, members of the Sisterhood monitoring her as she slowly grew to her adult form.
“No... No!”
Eva's screams were soon muffled by a mask on her face as she found herself inside the tank. Panic quickly consumed her being as her hands began to bang at the inside of the glass. Scientists were quick to return to their consoles but they were too late. The glass of the water tank were shattered and water hit the floor as a naked Demon Assassin charged at them, mauling them like a mindless animal would as she screamed at the top of her lungs, lost to the madness.

The scientists were caught and torn asunder despite their attempts to flee for their lives, but the Sisterhood members were nowhere to be found. Eventually, the naked and furious clone was left alone, in utter silence; the once sterile white walls around her were spattered with blood, the floor flooded with the nutrient-infused amniotic liquid she had been suspended in, and ravaged corpses lay about her.
Her breathing ragged, heart filled with rage that she barely bridled, Eva became sensible of the rest of the room...
The sight that met her dropped her heart into her stomach.
Her capsule was just one of dozens that she could see, lining the walls of a seemingly endless chamber. Every five metres, another clone lay in suspended animation within its own capsule, and they were all physically identical to her. Every blemish, every square inch of pigmented skin - there was nary a hair out of place on any of them. Beside each canister was a large touch-screen console, displaying a myriad of readouts regarding each clone's vital signs and progress reports.
The occasional capsule was empty. Their corresponding consoles were illuminated with only two words:
SUBJECT TERMINATED
The colour draining from her face bit by bit, Eva wandered the corridor for what felt like hours, surrounded by slumbering replicas who were just like her in every way. She counted the empty capsules as she walked... Three... Ten... Twenty-five... Just how many copies of her had the Sisterhood discarded like broken tools? How many more had they grown and experimented on, as if these clones had no self-awareness, no semblance of humanity beyond their appearances?
Feeling more and more afraid for herself, the Demon Assassin turned and rushed back down the chamber towards her own shattered capsule. On its screen, she could see what appeared to be a lengthy progress report, hidden behind a flashing warning:
CONTAINMENT BREACH Capsule 0274-B
Just the sight of the four-digit number struck terror into the clone.
A cross symbol in the corner of this window could be pressed to close it, allowing reading of the opened report. Eva, her rage subsiding but a great dread taking hold of her, stepped across the wet floor towards the console.
Dare she read the file...?

Eva could feel her hand shaking while it drew closer to the console containing her opened file. Sweat poured down her face and her palms soon joined them as by the time her index finger came onto the button it slipped, barely able to even press it right before finally pushing down on the console's button and seeing the file appear before her.
Entry 1: 11/30/09 Today we've received the necessary blood sample on Death Wish's blade of the Legendary Dark Knight's blood after the battle between them concluded. All available resources are now going into this project. The Genius wants an army. I want a masterpiece.
Entry 2: 12/07/09 Project SE-01 body has finally matured, gender female as per request by The Genius herself. Sparda's natural physical attributes are already starting to appear present in Project SE-01, Devil Trigger remains dormant. We are to take the samples currently available in SE-01's blood and begin Mass Production.
Entry 3: 12/14/09 Mass Production is a failure. The copies made from SE-01 has become vicious, mindless animals consumed by their rage, destroying Sisterhood's equipment, killing scientists and tearing through each other. SE-01 remains perfect regardless of the side effect Mass Production from her core has caused. Plans for Mass Production are hereby canceled and the copies are to be terminated. SE-01 is all the Sisterhood needs to destroy Devil May Cry and exalt the Sisterhood to the status of Domino City's saviors.
Entry 4: 12/21/09 SE-01 has shown signs of increased brain activity, intense dreaming. By probing her mind I have seen the memories of Sparda himself. The fight with Mundus, closing the Demon World, meeting and falling in love with a woman named Eva. Even recent memories with the current incarnation of Devil May Cry; Amoura, Ranka, Sazan, Arix, etc. are all there. Along with the experience of Sparda turning what would otherwise be a novice into one of the most experienced weapons in our arsenal. I have named SE-01 Eva in honor of the human wife that stole Sparda's heart. She's certainly stole mine.
Entry 5: 12/28/09 SE-01 awoke prematurely out of capsule 0274-B, attempts to shut her down fail and she broke out of her water tank and attacked and killed the scientists that were in the room. Several more scientists and guards were killed as a result of her escape but we were able to neutralize her after a fight with Death Wish. She is now being transferred into the operation room for further experimentation. It won't do for the history of Sparda's rebellion to repeat itself.
Eva's eyes widened in horror upon the final entry repeating what has just occurred not more than two minutes ago. But how could that be possible? If that was true then–!

If Eva was expecting the guards to come, they would not. Instead, a sudden and complete rush of dizziness overcame her, as if all the oxygen suddenly left her lungs and threatened to cause her to pass out. Swaying for a few moments, struggling to hold onto her rapidly slipping consciousness, the Demon Assassin eventually stumbled backwards and fell to the cold, water-flooded and blood-soaked floor, blacking out.
What awoke her was the feeling that she was drowning.
Her eyes snapped open. She tried to utter a scream, but no breath reached her lips. She tried to thrash around in protest, but found herself strapped down upon an ice-cold metal operating table, restraints wound so tightly upon her wrists, ankles and mid-section that even her unnaturally strong bones were in danger of being crushed. A tall, lanky scientist clad in a stark white, full-body operation suit towered over her, his gloved hands upon an equally enormous hypodermic syringe whose needle had been jabbed into her lower torso. Its contents had already been administered to her; a potent muscle relaxant that quickly spread throughout her body, creating this frighteningly realistic drowning sensation.
Seeing that she had come to, he removed the needle and stepped safely away, turning to place the syringe on a tray of used instruments and crossing the room to regard a bank of consoles. He bent to place his masked mouth near a microphone and pressed record to issue the next segment of his report.
"As expected, subject has awoken upon administration of full-body muscle relaxant. She is panicked, but her lack of need to breathe for extended periods of time will keep her conscious despite partial failure of diaphragm and intercostal muscles. Onset of full effect imminent. Live freezing test will commence upon completion."
Releasing the mic, he turned back to look at Eva. By now, the muscle relaxant had taken full effect; her entire body had fallen limp, and her breathing was deathly shallow. An ordinary human would have long since asphyxiated from lung failure, but this speed of onset was unexpectedly quick. Smiling behind the mask, he turned back to the microphone for a moment.
"Full muscle relaxation achieved. Commencing live freezing test."
He stepped to the side to place himself in front of a large touch-screen console and his hands danced across it with a practiced grace, altering settings and preparing machinery. With the final press of a confirmation button, the table Eva was pinned to began to move, sliding down the large laboratory on a pair of rails. It stopped over a separated section, around which large panels of the floor slid away, revealing a cylindrical chamber beneath the clone.
The table descended into it on a telescopic boom that connected to it from below, and the floor closed over the Demon Assassin.
Cameras watched her from every angle. The scientist above had complete control of the situation. From within the curved walls around the replica, small conical nozzles emerged, and at the scientist's command...
"Live freezing test. Firing liquid nitrogen vapour in three... Two... One..."
They vented the sealed, airtight chamber with clouds of liquid nitrogen that utterly filled the pit, freezing Eva's whole body through until her very flesh began to crystallise and break away.

Eva kept trying to tell herself none of this was real, but it felt as real as the air she couldn't breathe and she was unable to do anything to stop these bastards.
"Full muscle relaxation achieved. Commencing live freezing test."
The Demon Assassin suddenly felt the descend below and she knew right away without even having to look that this was going to be bad. She tried to move again but this time it just wasn't going to happen.
"Live freezing test. Firing liquid nitrogen vapour in three... Two... One..."
Eva felt her body freezing as her eyes widened and she was unable to even scream as all she could do was lay back and feel her body freeze over and her surroundings went black before everything began to break away.
