Carari Grey stood in a circle shaped room near the top of the Downward Spiral. Unknown symbols based on languages thousands of years old surrounded them and a faint glow cover the symbols on the walls, floors and ceiling. Standing across from her was the infamous dictator of Isafaro. General Vulture. They were alone. No one else knew they were there.
“What is the meaning of this?” asked Carari.
“You've failed me, Ms. Grey. I kept you alive because I saw a lot of myself in you but I see now that I was wrong. Under your rule you allowed a terrorist group to open the hell seal located in Moon Valley and nearly got us all wiped out by a new god! I'm afraid your usefulness is at its end.”
Vulture marched towards her and Carari attempted to run but she was slammed into the wall behind her and held in place as she began weeping and pleading for her life.
“Please, Vulture! Don't kill me. I'll resign and you'll never see me again. You can do with Moon Valley what you will just please don't kill me!”
“SILENCE!”
Vulture drew a pistol, and placed an arm over her mouth while holding her back against the wall, bringing the barrel up to her stomach. Carari screamed into his sleeve but it was muffled out and none could hear her as General Vulture moved to squeeze the trigger until suddenly, he froze in place. The arm on Carari grew cold as the color left Vulture's cheeks and it looked like he had been zombified.
“Ah, ah, ah! Naughty child! That's no way to treat a lady.”
Carari Grey would turn her head to see the Messiah of Utopia, Luca Valentine approaching them. The zombified General Vulture backed away at Luca's call and stood before the two of them not making a sound as Luca came over and readjusted Carari's collar before turning to face the General.
“What ever am I going to do with you?”
Luca asked as she lightly tap his cheeks.
“I buy you books, and buy you books, and buy you books and what do you do? You just keep ripping out the pages!”
“Luca! What did you do to him?”
“I did as I always do, Ms. Grey. Keep men who don't know their place in check.”
Luca smiled and gave Vulture a smack on the back before turning back to the mayor of Moon Valley.
“What? You didn't think you convinced the good General to join forces with you because of your charm and good looks, did you? Oh heavens no!”
“You've been controlling him all this time?”
“Control is such an ugly word. I like to think that the General saw that the benefits of joining with me far outweighed the cost of opposing me. Come, Ms. Grey. We have work to do.”
Luca took Carari by the hand and began leading her to the top of the tower.
“What work? Where are you taking me?”
“To a glimpse of the future!”
When they came to the roof of the tower the sky was covered in dark gray storm clouds but all of Jherra was theirs to see. From one side of the tower they could see the futuristic city of Isafaro and the 19th Century London like city of Hallowton and of course on the other side was the desert empire Jherrazad and the small mountain town of Moon Valley. A little closer to that was the ghost town Crystal City.
“This is what the universe is like now. Divided against itself. War as far as the eye can see. People killing each other, destroying their homes all because a supposed loving creator deems it so. It is their DESTINY! But I know the truth. There is no destiny. No fate. It is an illusion. An invention of man. We're responsible for forging our own path in this world but people do not know what to do with the power they were given. So they subscribe to the illusion. They put their fate into the hands of a higher power and don't question it. And this is the end result. No longer.”
With the wave of her hand Carari would see a beautiful paradise in the world below. The darkness that covered Isafaro was gone and sunlight shined down upon its surface for the first time in years, Hallowton was a beautiful city now void of fog, the forsaken city of Crystal City had returned to its former glory and the desert empire and the mountain town was one entity. And everyone lived in harmony.
“This is the future I offer. No more division. No more war. No more sorrow. Peace and harmony. This is what I can deliver as long as we all work together.”
“This seems too good to be true.”
“Trust me, Ms. Grey. It's not.”
“Y-you can really pull this off?”
Luca placed both her hands on Carari's cheeks and moved close to her face as if to kiss it, caressing her cheek lightly as she looked into her eyes lovingly.
“Yes. And the spectators who doubt me are going to be in for a very, very, BIG surprise!”
